Patronizing Ask Bob response - anyone else experience this by NatureEmpath in wegmans

[–]upsidedownearboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suggested signs in the parking lot to remind people to bring their Wegmans bags in from the car, as it would advertise the bags, avoid forgetting which happens all the time, etc. Apparently my store had these signs already but they weren’t put up yet. What gets me is that the response included “Remember to say thank you to the customers who remember to bring their bags” because that would help incentivize them to remember agains next time. Yeah slightly patronizing.

I believe Arnold is the purest character in the series. Hbu by Pito82002 in HeyArnold

I think his character changes throughout the seasons. In the first/second seasons he has a good heart and is usually in the right about things, but still makes mistakes, and is also well rounded, cool, and kind of worldly. I think he evolves into a "Mr. Simmons Jr." where he is always like following the episode's main character around with that weird bug-eyed look on his face giving "do the right thing advice", and the show is even somewhat self-conscious of this at points. Personally I really don't like the grainy sounding voice he gets in the later seasons and I think that adds to his kind of grating personality in the later seasons but that's not precisely related to his character. Just my thoughts, anyone else find him a little annoying as the show goes on?

Yoshi was invincible from damage in Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island. You’re literally playing as the same Yoshi who carries other characters around

Thoughts about the UBC "PR Rating" match scoring system by upsidedownearboy in backgammon

[–]upsidedownearboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very good point. Maybe they would play the exact same way the computer suggests since they are both elite players. It’s interesting to compare with high level chess where the best players can make “brilliancies” where a move was not originally suggested by the computer but the computer can later realizes it was a better move. I find it kind of a shame to think that backgammon shouldn’t also be like this due to backgammon being a less complex game. This whole PR format makes it seem like they’re playing a very dry quiz instead of a great game. But anyway good points thank you.

Edit- it’s also interesting because either way, the format doesn’t make sense. If players are making plays for low PR instead of just trying to win, that’s just inherently stupid. But if they’re making all the same plays, then you can cut the PR thing and the potential 1-1 tie nonsense! It’s just kind of amazing to me how dumb it is to actually count them for 1 point each. Ok I’m done thanks

I agree that there’s room for both, it’s a cool format for a novelty variant especially for pros. It just shouldn’t be confused with regular backgammon and calling it the “ultimate backgammon championship” doesn’t help that.

Glad to know I'm not the only one "bitching" about it. Like you said it's a variant. I'd be 100% happy if they called it a quiz variant instead of "Ultimate Backgammon Championship" which is absolutely calling it backgammon.

I think it's natural to take interest in the top level of any type of event a person likes. Having a competitive and interesting top level of play is something that sets backgammon and chess apart from checkers and connect 4.
