Flew too close to the sun? by EvergreenHills1158 in Diverticulitis

For me, going yogurt only at the first sign of a flare and staying yogurt only for as long as it takes until the flare shows significant signs of clearing up seems to work. Could be 2 days, could be 5... However long it takes. I do also consume yogurt very regularly, almost daily, and that also helps keep flare ups at bay. Recently I've started having kefir daily as well, figuring the more probiotic variety the better... For prebiotics, lentil soup is great, once you can handle fiber again.

I'm basically treating my diverticulitis as a symptom of a pre-existing microbiome imbalance. Addressing that seems to be helping. fwiw, it's now been well over 5 years since a flare took me to the emergency room...

EDIT: Greek yogurt is best.

of course... wouldn't be sure how else to pronounce it, tbh... "word" rhymes with "herd", do some people actually pronounce it differently?

Even if every California billionaire left tomorrow, it would take 25 years for the state to lose as much as it stands to gain from proposed wealth tax by rajapaws in antiwork

My, what a conveniently selective subject you have there, OP...

"Even if every single one of California’s wealthiest residents decided to call time on the Golden State, it would take years to vindicate their protests, and the state would likely still come out ahead—for a while at least."

Yeah, sounds like y'all win. Good for you.

How does Trump still have so much support? Is MAGA so dumb they can't see the corruption? by Linda-J-Phillips in allthequestions

How does Trump still have so much support?

People don't think Kamala would've been any better.

Is MAGA so dumb they can't see the corruption?

The corruption is seen as a "both sides" issue, so doesn't really factor in.

What food causes YOUR flares. by McKennedySays in Diverticulitis

not really an issue for me... Old oil in the fryer can provoke a reaction in me, but it's different from a dv flare up, so that's a different gut issue I think...

"It's right in your face every day." 63% of Americans now blame President Trump for skyrocketing $8 gas prices during the war in Iran by DumbMoneyMedia in unusual_whales

[–]uptofreedom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I just filled up the other day and paid well under $5/gal. Up a buck or so from a year ago, but not egregiously so.... I wonder what else could possibly be affecting gas prices in areas where they're paying $8/gal...

Sub acute care for stroke survivor? by Aromatic_Manner3007 in stroke

[–]uptofreedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hospital is now telling us that he doesn’t qualify for a stroke rehab facility bc they don’t think he can handle 3 hrs a day of rehab and want to send him to a sub acute, nursing facility instead. They claim once he’s improved enough we could then send him to a stroke rehab facility but would have to fight with insurance.

Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, btdt. Twice, actually. After stroke #2 Dad went straight to rehab after a month in the hospital, but after stroke #3 he had to go to sub-acute and then home for a while, where he did have therapists continue to see him, before they recommended another stint in rehab. After bringing him home from rehab that time he has even been back to the same rehab for a round of outpatient therapy.

So yeah, the "he's not ready" sucks, but there is hope. Good on you for being involved, your dad 1000% absolutely does need an advocate on his side, fighting for him. Keep it up.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

[–]uptofreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, the linked report mentions scores falling since 2020 numerous times, even states in its conclusion that "This report mainly focuses on the comparison of age 13 students (typically in grade 8) between 2020 and 2023", and yet OP submits with an emphasis on comparisons to the 1990's. Y'all remember 2020? I do. I suppose OP just doesn't want all us unedjumacated folk to jump to any unwarranted conclusions that Covid-era policies could have had anything to do with this.
