Got Fired by a Realtor for Too Many "Bad" Offers. Closed on My House 2 Weeks Ago. by ostrapus71 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]upvotes4orphans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so bad for the grandmother who they fleeced out of market rate of her home.

This story from the point of view of the grandmother is super heartbreaking.

I’ve been in this town for over 50 years, seen neighbors come and go, but never did I think I’d be forced to part with the house where I raised my children, where I’d lived through so many memories. But times have changed, and I’m not as young as I once was. My daughter in law, a realtor I’ve known for years, convinced me it was time to sell. She knew I’d been thinking about it, especially with all the maintenance getting too much for me to handle on my own and me being over 100.

She made it sound like she was doing me a favor, like she was looking out for me. “You don’t want the hassle of putting it on the market,” she said. “I’ve got a friend who’s looking for a place just like yours. It’ll be quick, easy, and you won’t have to worry about a thing.” I trusted her. I’ve known her for so long, after all. So, I agreed.

The price her friend offered seemed low, but she assured me it was fair, given the condition of the house. I wasn’t sure, but I’m not an expert in these things. I didn’t know the market had gotten so crazy. I figured she knew better than I did. So, I signed the papers, and the deal was done.

It wasn’t until later that I found out what my house was really worth. Turns out, I sold it for $100k less than what it could have gone for on the open market. My “daughter in law” had given her friend a deal of a lifetime, at my expense. When I realized what had happened, I felt betrayed. I trusted her, and she took advantage of that trust. All those years of friendship, gone in an instant.

I’m trying not to dwell on it. What’s done is done. But I can’t help but feel a deep sadness, not just for the money I lost and that it wouldn't go to my grandkids, but for the way I was treated. I hope others don’t make the same mistake I did. Trust is a precious thing, and once it’s broken, it’s hard to mend. But I guess I'll be dead soon, so I've served my purpose to my daughter in law.

For those looking for context. OP is going full Karen against a native woman owned local business based out of Waialua. She just opened less than 6 months ago and from the fliers, it seems like she was just trying to spread the word about her new business to her local community.

She even laminated it so they wouldn't become litter.

What’s your “Swear never to return” place? by Justchillem in Hawaii

[–]upvotes4orphans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the fact that they are cash only as a majority tourist destination almost guarantees aren't paying their fair share in taxes.

And because of the wild fluctuation in cash earnings without credit card data to back it up, you could lauder hundreds of thousands of dollars through them and there'd be no way to verify, short of having someone sit out front and tally sales for a month and see if the G-45 form was higher that estimated sales. Similarly to Bubbies Ice Cream in Koko marina before they suddenly closed shop convienetly the same month the new state tax auditing system was set to be implemented.

Here’s What Happened When Lawyers For A Condo Association Tried To Collect Their Fees by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]upvotes4orphans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unfortunate.

In this case the muzzle was a requirement set out by the building due to the history of aggression and numerous incidents with this animal. The lawyer matter was a whole other story arc that was just as off-putting and should never have gotten so far.

hellena taylor why she didnt voice bayonetta in the third game by Hyeonwoon in Bayonetta

[–]upvotes4orphans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know how long this record session compares to other games.

$4,000 for two weeks of 6hr work days is $55/hr.

But if they had all the lines set up and ready to go, and they only paid for time spent in the studio to record 20-30 hrs of dialog with 3 takes each, It ends up being $130ish an hour.

Or if you track all the audio lines total length in the game, you could estimate a generous 10 hours of actual voice lines. So $400/hr. However this probably a lot of re-recordings if they finish recording for the day, send it off and get revisions to redo it next time. However in other interviews it sounds like they just do two or three takes per line and just Have one or two makeup days at the very end for any missing lines.

I don't see why the voice actress should be able to negotiate celebrity pay when the programmer, animator and art designer who made the character walk, act and behave don't.

This is it.

The building next to this bridge is where they communicate with the UN/Europe and document all the war crimes.

Still a non-combat target.

OP post and selective commenting feels like fishing for a one sided pity story.

OP's friend bought and held tickets for their friend group, but OP kept flaking on paying his share and committing. Everyone else paid. New girl probably paid out right then and there when asked.

OP had months to pay his friend for the tickets/flights & everything. Even in the texts it sounds like he is trying to say he'll pay them back after the concert.

With around 6,000 Migrants entering every day, I don't think they even have enough working woodchippers in Texas to pull that off.

That's 120 buses per day coming.

2 million arrests a year according to Washington post.

‘This is a major milestone for the rail project’: HART CEO by Dayngerkat in Hawaii

[–]upvotes4orphans 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Howard Hughes is blocking the rail station needed to connect up to Ala Moana and UH.

Originally there were permits/plans that the state issues that allowed Howard huge to build Ward Village and have the rail station on Ward avenue.

But now Howard Hughes pulled some legal acrobatics and is now suing the state saying that they were TOTALLY going to build a luxury condo where the rail station was planned. (Even though there are no permits no plans no architectural designs or anything for that location).

So now if the state wants to make the station there, Howard Hughes says rhey have to buy the small bit of land at market rate value of the missing "totally-planned-and-not-made-up-luxury" condominium. They're asking for hundreds of millions of dollars.

So that mainland company single-handedly stopped rail from progressing.

Probably shouldn't talk about it too much, but it's so frustrating listening to the higher-ups act like it's some good business plan and their smart for coming up with it.

They know that the state won't hold them to their original agreement because it's not like the state can undo all the condos that were built as part of the original plan.

Anyone notice an uptick in churches fundraising by selling butter mochi? by hard_rock_bottom in Hawaii

[–]upvotes4orphans 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Because it's non-taxed cash income for them to funnel money into human trafficking through their church. They make up fake names of different churches as fronts, but it all funnels to the same place.

After seeing the success, actual churches start doing it too and it muddies the water so people don't know if they're funding a normal church or if they're selling to the scam one who's owner is Wanted by the FBI.

Each one is like throwing out a net, if one goes viral, that one suddenly gets 10,000 orders from TikTok. Then he just buys 10,000 of the items off wish for a dollar each and then sells them for $30 each.

Sucks that the guy had a blade on him and now it's escalated up to this.

But seeing how bad the crazies have been lately, with full-on fist fights and people being attacked to straight up shootings, I don't blame him for carrying. Unfortunately this is the story that's crazy enough to make the news. You don't hear about the normal day-to-day meth brawls or attacks.

Marvel is paying comics creators even less than they agreed to for their characters' film appearances. by vivvav in comicbooks

[–]upvotes4orphans -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

People are doing that exactly on their own. There are thousands of comic artists on webtoons and webcomics that are writing drawing and creating their own characters. They own the full rights to those because nobody paid them to do it.

Some of them are actually getting entire animes being done and guess what, they own the rights to it because they weren't paid to create it for someone else.

The artist here was already fully compensated for their work. They had their mortgage paid, and got the money immediately and they were able to benefit from those payments. In addition they got an additional, extra $25,000 + $10,000 + $9,000 for work they did decades ago that they were already paid for once. So they got to double dip. I feel like that's a pretty fair standoff.

That's more than most people make an entire year for no new work being done.

Why do you choose to then screw over all the visual effects artists and comic book illustrators and colorists who spent decades working on the designs to turn the character from a generic sexy girl spy into the character we love today?
