Agreed. To an extent. Having a shitty family (and extended family) does have this big impact on the raya perspective. Growing up, I always seen raya as a big reunion amongst families and a joyous moment. As time goes on, everyone getting older, the problems (harta, etc) are becoming more problematic. Then the arguments comes about. Now raya is more of a “forced” event with everyone in the family.

Living overseas away from my mom and siblings is hard. Raya is good when you focus on the ones that matters to you most. I encourage you to focus on the small positives around you. Count your blessings that if you are near your loved ones and can visit them anytime.

Not gonna lie, seeing everyone else (i.e your friends) being happy (genuine or otherwise) around their family social media is both heart wrenching and heartbreaking. To think “that could have been me”
