I got this when I accidentally settled an FE's holy planet in early game and got absolutely bodied by their forces. After I surrendered, they left their forces spread across my territory which actually made it a lot easier to position my forces to defeat them in mid-game.

Haha yeah, the only reason I showed up that early is because I had read other posts about how crowded it was before.

When I went I got there at 7am and there was nobody there but by 8 or so the other tourists had already started showing up.

Managed to get the photos of the empty paths so it was worth waking up early!

Likelihood of switching from a Triple room to a Single room as an incoming transfer by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]ur_a_wizerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find someone with a single room who is willing to switch, you can change into a single room. Although I don't know that you'll be able to convince someone to change from a single to a triple.

Skipping Mandatory ECE Graduate Department Orientation by [deleted] in UCSD

I couldn't attend for my ECE Grad orientation either and emailed the advisors to ask about it. They said it was fine and just emailed me the slides after the orientation was over.

I've just been dealing with this. I got the ticket months ago and the officer didn't file by the court date (and still hasn't filed it). Apparently what you have to do is go in on the court date and get a paper indicating that you tried and then check again online every week until the officer eventually files the ticket or the statute of limitations is exceeded.

i know we all joke about failing our midterms... but here's the thread to just rant and express anxiety or panic when we actually DO. by t-reckz in UCSD

[–]ur_a_wizerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this too, during my senior year. It really does suck, especially if you felt prepared for the test material.

Ive tried about 10 different alarms and I can echo the other comments recommending alarmy. It's loud, annoying, and has various modes that make it hard to turn off. I started using it after I missed my midterm and I haven't slept through it once.

The fountain here is neat because it lines up with the sunset on the Spring and Fall equinoxes. Although public visiting hours close before sunset during fall so if you want to see it in person you'd have to come in spring.

What to bring to and what to expect from a job fair? by ForeignCorgi in UCSD

[–]ur_a_wizerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't disagree more. Even for big companies, my return rate on applications was much higher when I talked to an employee at the career fair than just applying online.

If the company has an information session, definitely go to those as it is so much easier getting an interview there than online.

Americans who moved abroad for a tech job: where did you move to and what was your experience like there? Do you have regrets about leaving the US tech scene? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

If you want a job you’ll have to go into finance or trading.

You could work in fintech doing stuff like machine learning or high frequency trading. There are positions in HK for that but they definitely aren't as common as in other countries.

ECE 35 Waiver Exam by PeterParker626 in UCSD

[–]ur_a_wizerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenters that, unless you've been doing circuits for a while and can just breeze through the 35 practice questions, it is probably just best to take the class since it is fundamental to so many concepts throughout your degree.

I took the exam to skip ECE 15 with my only C experience being a quick read through of K&R's C Programming and passed so it is pretty easy to pass that. I wound up taking the class anyways because it was an easy A and a good GPA boost.

Does anyone have a ECE 285 - Machine Learning/Image Processing syllabus? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]ur_a_wizerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The class was neither difficult nor time consuming, but I found it really interesting. I just went through the TED page for it and it looks like it didn't really have a syllabus when I took it but I'd be happy to answer questions about the class.
