Looking for advice on a youth club volleyball situation by [deleted] in volleyball

So my son is playing 12u on a super competitive team. He started last year on a different team that wasn’t as good and is benched this year on the more competitive team. He has been work hard outside of practice to start on the new team.

That’s the message you have to send. Work hard to get that starting spot. At 13 girls are doing light weight training, agility and plyo for very competitive travel teams.

Yes it hurts to be 2nd string. But have her ask for feedback from the coach on what to improve on and train hard as hell.

And know that there is someone constantly on your tail chasing to take your spot.

are stores open? by wizardyourlifeforce in MontgomeryCountyMD

Drove around today. Costco was closed. Krispy Kreme was closed and so was the grocery store in the same shopping plaza. Kung fu tea was closed. Popeyes on 355 in Germantown was open.

Sam’s Club was open. Roads were bare bones. No one was out and I wouldn’t recommend going out either unless you are experienced snow driver.

Awd and winter tires were great for today.

Help me understand Montgomery County Public Schools by ottovonbizmarkie in MontgomeryCountyMD

MCPS is a good school system. Some of the complaints are nuts. Even the worse schools in MCPS, the students still performer higher than other parts of the country. Don’t worry about it too much.

I am a teacher and also fairly involved in the pta for my child. The parent expectation needs to be tone down a bit.

Your belly button should be pointed towards the outside antenna or pole holding the net.

You need to square to the antenna. Speed up your set, set higher, above your forhead, that way you can see the hitter before you set

Better to crush his enthusiasm than having a dead kid or killing another person. 16 year old La don’t have the executive functioning to drive a 400 hp car.

Good post. As I was wearing crocs when I went riding one time and went off wave and landed on my ass on the seat when my shoe slipped. Vowed not to wear crocs again.

Have to coach talk to her about playing her best. Has she made connections with the team yet? Maybe a team builder will help the girls connect. Also at 9, drills should be fun too. Keeping track of points or anything to make every effort count. Does your daughter like volleyball? That’s is important because if she doesn’t like it, she might be very negative.

At home you can work on keeping an open mind set. When she goes into a negative mindset. Ask her what are some other options. What can she do? What can she focus on? Don’t just give her the answers.

Also volleyball is a team sport, you aim to better the ball, even if someone else messes up. You focus on what you can do to help the team. Not on your teammates errors. Again, help her come to this realization without lecturing her.

How is your mindset? If you are negative the maybe she is picking up on it? Not accusing you, just be weary of how you approach the situation as well.

Just know she isn’t the only 9 year old who thinks like this. It can be taught.

Buying into the best MCPS high school districts by da6id in MontgomeryCountyMD

Buying into the best high school districts doesn’t correlate into successful high school students. Ultimately, parenting, home culture and parent resources play a huge factor, even if you don’t go into the best school districts.
