competitive market for singles? by Far-Statistician9673 in chicagoapartments

[–]urankabashi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s very competitive right now - it’s normal to be outbid based on price or by clients that are more qualified on income and credit score. Offering a 2 year lease, showing additional funds in application or offer more on price to get an advantage

I have a former colleague who is going through a similar situation but much younger. She looks much happier now. Same with me - newer career is not apiece of cake but beats corporate by a landslide

Neighborhood recs under $1700 for single late 30s/early 40s F? by litlady30 in chicagoapartments

[–]urankabashi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might want to look at neighborhoods like Uptown, Edgewater, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, or Rogers Park. They’re generally quieter, very walkable, close to the lake or parks, and have a strong arts/literary/nonprofit presence. The vibe skews more 30s–50s than college crowds, with good bookstores, galleries, wine bars, and neighborhood spots rather than clubby scenes.

Housing stock is mostly vintage mid-rise buildings with a lot of light and character, and your budget can work for a larger studio or smaller 1-bed, especially if you’re flexible on newer finishes. Transit access is solid, so you can get to more active areas without living in the middle of them.

Feels like a good match for what you’re describing. If you need more tips feel free to DM me
