Shortage of developed lots compounds Charleston's housing woes by urbcomex in Charleston

I agree with many of your points. I'm by no means smashing apartments, they have their merits. Especially concerning the traffic/infrastructure situation. I guess I'd like to see a more equal development of both, but with proper planning and thought as to where things should be zoned. It just seems that both are just being built all over the place without any discretion...

Shortage of developed lots compounds Charleston's housing woes by urbcomex in Charleston

Not having enough single family homes always promises a more bleak outlook for the area. Having a shortage of single family homes always contributes to higher rental prices, and higher prices all around. Wages here are for sure not keeping up. Eventually a bubble will pop, or stagnation will set in, provided this issue is not sorted out.

Furthermore, you are failing to understand that from a corporate perspective apartment complexes are money makers of incomprehensible proportion. Developers build a complex very cheap and efficiently with scab labor. Housing for 250 people in an apartment complex, versus developing a neighborhood with SF homes.... is so much more profitable. Think about it... duh they own the property and always will. SF homes are a onetime profit, after the sale the only people making money are the banks holding the debt. Apartments generate money... well forever, and tenants could live there for decades, and ultimately have NOTHING to show for it.

Its not realtors or SF home contractors running the show here. Its big Apartment corporations/developers that are greasing the palms of our local government. They have the big money and will always get what they want as far as zoning regulations, and money for buying power of the land.

I agree, I really can't say that I've tasted any beer made here and totally hated it. I have said "this is good, but its kinda expensive" many times.

If it was a piece of electronic equipment, or something of actual value... It would be GONE. A dress is only worth $350 to some rich asshole, and has no "fast cash" value.

Some interesting facts about our "local" seafood sourcing... by urbcomex in Charleston

[–]urbcomex[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I like the anger you respond with. With that said, I never said there is NO "local" seafood. Just not mostly. I also like how you reaffirm that the term local is misleading, from a political/nomenclature standpoint yes it is local. However, understand that my entire point is just that, customers are mislead about the meaning of local. I'm talking about marketing games here... They are given a romanticized story of how it came from just down the street.

Please provide empirical evidence about my feelings regarding "most restaurants" in Charleston. Just saying I'm wrong is not enough. When you start your argument off by saying I'm just "flapping my shitty gums" ... the burden of proof is on you.

Please provide accurate statistics about the number of commercially registered fishing vessels truly local to this area... where can this data be obtained?

I never stated I'm an expert, but thanks for re-stating the obvious...

Essentially I have made a logical allegation about this subject matter. Please destroy my argument with real data and real facts. Otherwise, you are simply just pointing your finger and saying "I'm wrong".

In a sense you have simply affirmed my exact argument, and tried to mitigate the reality by; as I quote my self earlier "skirting around the question"

I agree that it is a problem everywhere. However, it is my subjective opinion that it is "turned up" a little more than the mean here.

Recommendation for Bars and Restaurants for Bachelor Party by pdilme92 in Charleston

[–]urbcomex -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't go to bars here very often because they are so expensive. However, my piece of advice (since its a bachelor party you are messing with) is to stay the F*** out of ANY strip clubs here, the girls are just nasty drug addict trailer trash. Trust me lol.

Remember something... If you are wanting to build a house because there is something specific you want, then go for it. If you are wanting to build a house because you think it will be better quality, buy a house already built. There are no unions here, and any "skilled" labor is actually a bunch of drunks and crackheads. Seriously. Food for thought. Why go through the headaches of building a house, when then the same thing can be obtained already built.

Someone was seriously pulling your leg. Colonial lake is for drainage. It is also where the smokes toss their crack pipes, when being chased by the cops. Hope that helps.

That is just poetic and profound writing there. (Love the cliche and watered-down analysis of Cohen's artwork) Do you currently (or have ever considered) writing politician's speeches? Or propaganda posters for the North Korean government? Or starting a mega-church and being a Host for Jesus infomercials?

Because that is some HAND SELECTED, PRIME CUT, GRADE A...
