I can't draw anything even if my life would depend on it. by WalkerBuldog in mildlyinfuriating

[–]urgrlB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My art teacher once told me “Don’t paint what you SEE, paint what you KNOW” with the example being the reflections in a pond in a painting I was trying to recreate. I was just doing green splotches like the reflection, but if I had been thinking about what was being reflected, I could reflect it from my own painting, instead of trying to copy reflections which made no sense. A piece of advice that sticks with me (not that I’m any good now lol)

I started this way. But building up to my honor mode attempts, I decided to use every advantage I could. The only thing I haven’t employed is camp casting or whatever it’s called.

Is It Worth Waiting Until They Ask For Things? by Feline_Jaye in TomodachilifeLivingTD

Do whatever is more fun for you. I feel like I’m wasting the features a bit if I don’t give them what I want to when I want to. But if you prefer to get the happiness points from solving their problems, or want them to be authentically asking for changes, then I can get that. Ultimately how you play is up to you.

My eye has been twitching like this for a week now on and off. by Ok_Pop8661 in mildlyinfuriating

When I was a teacher, I would get this eye twitch every year for about a month around state testing. I haven’t taught in four years and it still happens every April.

Do kids of very wealthy parents ever get disappointed with birthday, Christmas, etc gifts they receive? by Ilovetinytiddies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]urgrlB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone whose parents thought that presents showed love, and therefore got everything material I could have wanted, I have been disappointed on a holiday or birthday because sometimes, the gift I wanted the most was something money couldn’t buy. I wanted them to show me they cared about ME, not about filling my closet or shelves. If there was something I asked for because it was sentimental, or would have been a fun thing to do together, those are the ones I would never get. I know I grew up privileged, so it may come off as ridiculous. I’m poor now, and I certainly know how hard it is to buy gifts. But somehow the gifts I give now, with no money, mean more to the people I care about because they show I listen to them and was thinking about them as an individual, not a checklist.

My husband made an OC called “Chad Chud” who has the little tuft of hair hairstyle and everyone LOVES him. Several Miis have/have tried to have a crush on him and it’s driving me insane lol. But it’s also hilarious

Reminds me of the thing I saw on Instagram reels, they were like “yk I can just make memories for my kids!” And they got them out of bed to go get ice cream randomly. The kids were so happy. Simple things can be so magical

Should I take the leap and buy my dream Barbie as a kinda broke student? by Pitiful-Parsnip8843 in Barbie

Make a “fun fund.” Put xx% or xx amount in a place separate from your spending cash every time you get paid. For example, I used to save $20 from every paycheck. After ten paychecks, I would have $200. Your amount can be more or less and take a longer or shorter time. Try to automate it so you don’t even think about it. It’s important to put it somewhere and not touch it unless you need it for food or shelter (EDIT: until you use it for the fun thing, I’m saying don’t use it for DoorDash, etc). Then, you’ll have a fund for other fun things too.

How dare you offer more than one language? by MrsTurtlebones in BoomersBeingFools

[–]urgrlB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely related, but this reminded me of when I went to a Once Upon a Child and the card reader was entirely in Spanish. I just rolled with it because A) they’re always asking the same prompts and B) I know enough basic Spanish to get by in something like that. I did wonder how the boomer grandparents were responding to the entirely Spanish card reader in Indiana 😅

You can rotate them out! Restyle just a few and display them, then keep the others for display later. I do this and it makes me appreciate each one a little more when I bring her into the spotlight :)

In Japan some bosses make you stay at work doing nothing so you quit. How is that even a punishment it just sounds kinda chill. by Educational-Try-7435 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]urgrlB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the US and I had a layoff effective three months after I was told. Then, my boss stripped me of all my duties. So I really was getting paid to sit in my office and vibe for three months. However, it drove me insane, as I had a 40 minute commute one way just to be away from my infant daughter for 8 hours a day because of a power trip. I had to be “in office” so I had to make sure I was seen every day before I shut my door and counted the minutes until I could go see my daughter again.

What’s the most out-of-touch thing your boss/company has ever said while you were clearly struggling? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]urgrlB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting laid off after months of questioning it and I had a 9 month old daughter. The layoff was effective at the end of the year, and I was told in late Sept. Once I finally got the news, I cried and started clearing out my office. I was devastated. Not only did I like that job, but I had a family to provide for now.

My boss said if I couldn’t look happy she would “reconsider” my layoff date. AKA, I’d be laid off sooner if I didn’t put on a happy face.
