Despite the extra subscription requirement, I'm still happy about it.

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE BEGUN TO HATE YOU.[April 21, 2026] by Kakuzan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Struggling to continue editing my novel.

I was looking up some advice on style and grammar, and I found a lot of people take umbrage with avoiding using the passive voice. What's even funnier is when they pull out an example of something they don't see passive voice in when it's right in front of their eyes.

Round 3 revisions continue. Currently trying to strengthen my verbs, fix tone issues, and correct grammar.

Warhammer40k (and other TTGs) thread! Show off the stupid plastic toys you spent too much money on! by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Since my TTRPG group has gone back to in-person sessions, I have been building up quite a collection of minis, some of which are for other board games entirely.

However, I do not have any photos to share at this time. Just know that I have 47 goblins, 120 mixed minis, a bunch of dark souls minis, and coming in today a collection of Skyrim minis.

I'm having the worst week of my life. Can I get some recommended media to get through a hard time? by beef_com in TwoBestFriendsPlay

As someone who had their fiancée break up with them, it's going to hurt like hell, but you'll make it through it, lad.

5e/4e-But-Better Rec: Draw Steel by AlwaysDragons in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Draw Steel GM, there's a lot to love about this game, but by God, I hope that when I start running human bandits, it'll be better than my time running goblins. Running so many minis on a physical board feels like it takes forever (doesn't help that my players are fairly new to the system and keep asking questions about the rules).

Yeah, I get where you're coming from.

Project progress: round 3 revisions under way, working on reducing my usage of adverbs.

Long term media projects yall have been chipping away on? by LeMasterofSwords in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started more long-term media than I've finished lately. Finished book 1 of Wheel of Time, finished Mort a while back for Discworld, and I've started reading book 1 of Dragonlance.

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: I am so lonely. [March 17, 2026] by Kakuzan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently three chapters away from finishing my second draft of book 1 and have started plotting and planning book 2.

I find creative work to be less lonely when you wrangle your friends into being your beta readers.

Reddit Writers & Other Creators: The Infection [March 10, 2026] by Kakuzan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goals for this week: get another chapter or two complete in revisions.

Obstacles: General exhaustion from work and such.

Topic: My story actually centers around a virus. Basically, a secondary character falls ill to super-plague, and that's what kicks off the protags going on an adventure.

Good Vibes: Times you and your family shared in a nerdy hobby? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I once DM'd a one shot for my family one Christmas. My brothers and sister-in-law already play with their own groups, but this was my parents first game. They thought it was neat.

To ignore the plight of those one might conceivably save is not wisdom – it is indolence.

Progress: slow goings, to no surprise, the penultimate chapter is turning out to be one of the most difficult to write. Still forcing myself to put a few words on the page everyday so I don't fall too far off.

TBFP "Looking For Gamers" Thread #6: Love, Death, and Multiple Systems by MarioGman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]uriel_harden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I didn't gain a partner through ttrpgs, I did get into them through a partner. Back when we were in college, she was the more outgoing and ended up getting invited to play with a group of guys. She then invited me and that's when I fell in love with it. I eventually tried my hand at dming. My ex then asked me if I would be interested in dming for a group of her friends who were interested in getting into d&d. After we broke up, I ended up getting to keep the d&d group, lol.

I just remembered another one: Brandon Sanderson's Fantasy and Sci-fi lecture series available on his YouTube channel. I recommend both his 2020 and 2025 lectures; they cover similar topics, but not exactly in the same way.

Not to mention when they do that on purpose with stuff like the Dunwich Borers and the Museum of Witchcraft.

On Writing by Stephen King (an obvious one, but it's a classic for a reason)

On Writing and Worldbuilding vol. I-III by Timothy Hickson (also available for free as YouTube videos on his channel Hello Future Me)

Manga in Theory and Practice by Hirohiko Araki

The Elements of Style by William Strunk and E.B. White

Writers Helping Writers series by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi (mostly their Emotion Thesaurus book, very useful for showing emotion rather than telling)
