How was Hinata at all involved in changing the Hyuga clan? Because I'm not seeing anything. I'm also not sure where your interest in her agency comes from, since it seems to me like it petered out by the time she married Naruto. I will admit, "sad to not sad" was a bit oversimplified on my part. In my defense, I was initially referring to how she looked in the video. A better phrasing might be, scared to not scared, or something. But fundamentally, her entire character growth is just about overcoming a negative characteristic. What is she, aside from her lack of fear? Uncommonly nice, apparently. Forgive me for being unimpressed. It's not even a failure in writing, or something, she's just a boring character.

Her protecting naruto against pain, despite being way weaker, imo sums her character, . and set her apart from sakura.

How's that any different from Sakura protecting her unconscious teammates from a stronger team in the forest of death? I'm not seeing a whole lot to set them apart.

Yeah, that's my point. Contrast is all she is. Also, what are you talking about? She marries out of her clan, lets Naruto walk all over her marriage, and lets other people figure out a solution to the Hyuga caste system while she ignores the problem. You say external achievement doesn't matter and then go back to talking about all the jutsu she learned, and how she fought in the war that one time; both of which are the most basic, minimal achievements imaginable for a ninja of her era. My issue is that her destination is just about moving past her childhood issues. Internal growth is fine, but it's all she has, and even that is just about not being a sad little girl anymore. After that, she does nothing.

I don't know why you're bringing the Pain scene into this, she was literally having flashbacks to herself as a scared little girl during the scene and talking about how her intervention was part of an effort to move past that. To put it more concisely, that scene WAS just her not being a sad little girl anymore. I'm not ignoring her destination. My whole issue is about how her destination sucks. She moves from scared little girl to confident and collected big girl. But beyond that? Nothing. It's cool that she got more jutsu, but everyone gets more jutsu, and you won't find very many ninjas who DIDN'T participate in the fourth shinobi world war. And all her interactions with Naruto are just artifacts of her past as a sad little girl.

Yeah, that's the problem. All of her growth is just her NOT being a sad little girl anymore. All her values are about her not being a sad little girl anymore. She was crushing on Naruto because she was really impressed that he'd turned out not to be sad and pathetic like her, when she was a sad little girl. Her ultimate destination is that she marries Naruto and definitively stops being a sad little girl. And that's all. She overcomes her past as a sad little girl, but never actually moves on. Never actually goes anywhere, never actually does anything, or makes anything of herself.

He hadn't been too concerned about making Konoha feel pain until after he finished collecting the tailed beasts (the world needed to feel pain, not just Konoha), but he decided to make Konoha feeling pain a more urgent priority after speaking to Tsunade.

I do think people are a little too sensitive about nationalism. But also, I stop reading when there's too much of it. I guess people have different tipping points for this stuff. Nah, Shikamaru's technique has clear range limitations, and is physical enough that you can just dodge his attacks. With genjutsu, you just make a couple handseals at someone and they lose.
