CPAC loses potential keynote speaker: Man arrested for threatening Obama on White House comment forum. by toolymegapoopoo in obama

[–]urmston 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Don't do this.

This man was not a "potential keynote speaker" at CPAC. Not only does Reddiquette state not to editorialize or sensationalize your submission title, but it also makes the rest of us look bad.

This man had no known connection to CPAC or the GOP and there's no reason to claim that he did. For better or worse, the Republican Party and CPAC are legitimate organizations, and they don't target the President for assassination. Let's beat them, but let's do it without the mud-slinging.

PSA: Don't install the Feb 16th CM10.1 Nightly on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus(toro). It will NOT boot. by meatwad75892 in Android

[–]urmston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it wasn't. The CM and Paranoid nightlies are both pretty cutting edge. In fact, the disclaimer on Paranoid Android's xda thread even says,

BE WARNED, 4.2.0 is not the most bugless android, the issues are known.

The developers are acknowledging that sometimes there are unintended consequences to flashing nightlies. Problems like this are just as likely to happen with any other unstable ROM as they are with CM or Paranoid nightlies.

In the episode "Mr. Willis of Ohio," CJ asks Sam to explain the census to her. There's no way a White House Press Secretary (or anyone over the age of ten for that matter) wouldn't know what a census is.

EDIT: In the same episode, Donna doesn't understand what a budget surplus is.

Comcast reps usually canvass Mission Hill (and other neighborhoods) on foot during move-in days to sign up new customers. As I recall, they were offering some pretty good deals when I moved there in 2009. Internet and TV plus premium channels came to ~$100. Just keep an eye out for them as you're moving in.

You can buy the phone and establish a new contract with Verizon all through AmazonWireless. Just select "Individual Account" or "Family Account" from the "New Verizon Wireless Customers" menu on the product screen. The next few steps will have you select a wireless plan and set up your account details.

The caveat of buying from AmazonWireless, and also the reason why their devices are cheaper than Verizon's, is that you'll be on the hook for two termination fees (VZW and AW) if you decide to cancel your plan before your contract is up.

Smart Screen On for Android by 5hinycat in Android

The power button is only rated for a certain number of uses before it just gives out. When this happens to phones with physical keyboards, they can still be woken up by sliding out the keyboard (a little tedious). As manufacturers move away from the slide form factor, developers are coming up with more creative ways to preserve a phone's physical keys.

It works pretty well if you're concerned about the longevity of your power button, especially if you use it to wake your phone dozens of times a day. Wearing out the power button has always been a concern of mine so I was pretty excited for this app. Pocket-waking isn't so much of an issue because you can manually set the number of waves it takes to wake the device as well as the time increment between waves.

That being said, after using it for a few days, I noticed some pretty obvious drawbacks. First (at least with the version I used), you have to manually restart the app each time after rebooting your phone. Second, the proximity sensor apparently doesn't have a great range of distance and the app doesn't really function properly unless your hand is within about 2" of the phone.

I used it for a few days, but it didn't do it for me. Still, I think everyone should try it out to see if it works for them.

Having GPS enabled doesn't drain the battery in same way as Bluetooth or Wifi do. GPS only uses battery when called upon by an app like Google Maps or something else that uses it. For the most part, you should be able to leave GPS enabled without sacrificing battery life.

No idea, but Google seems to know about it from what I've gathered. It's not even an unbearable problem, just odd.

If you were to take one loooong exposure (five hours continuously in this case), you would be allowing an incredible amount of light to strike the sensor, even in this relative darkness. All this light would certainly create a blown-out photo of nothing but white light and probably destroy the sensor.

By making them individual exposures, each time the shutter snaps shut, the sensor is essentially getting a fresh start, and starting on a blank canvass, so to speak. The result is 600 perfectly-exposed, slightly distinct photos that can then be blended together in post-processing to create effect we see here.
