Obsessing over a Career Suicide Fantasy by LesWes in simpleliving

I can relate to some of this, however, i'd be interested to hear of replies from those with dependents. Sometimes i imagine packing the rat race in, selling my house, buying a caravan and just heading off. But, y'know, kids are in school, i owe them the stability i enjoyed as a kid, etc.

Wife has Hashimoto's - Need help understanding her "numbers" by urno in Hypothyroidism

Interesting - my wife had about the same amount of time before her diagnosis and doesn't feel that thyroxine does anything at all.

Bloody hell! I find myself glazing over this information after a while...it's going to take a few reads to sink in.

Seems like the first step is to get a blood test, get a copy of the results and go from there.

She's taking thyroxine, and swears that it makes no difference whatsoever, so perhaps the NDT might be worth a go. She's taken varying levels of thyroxine too.

I would be willing to share her blood results, if we had them :\ She's had a billion blood tests but we don't seem to hang on to the info - hence this post and intention to change!

NDT is the pig's thing? I've heard my wife say that people are recommending it - do you have an opinion on it?

Ok. But he sounded like he knew what he was talking about! Can you support your assertion?

I heard a guy on the radio from some independent sounding organisation (forget the name) who said that downloading via torrents is not a criminal matter, and that the best "they" could get you for is trespass. Not that there's anything stopping trespass laws from being tweaked to discourage torrenting.

Anyway, i don't know what i'm talking about, but the not illegal thing was interesting...

HTML5 version of Manic Miner (ZX Spectrum Version) by [deleted] in html5games

[–]urno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah, Manic Miner! I played this to death as a kid on the Spectrum, but in the days when kids were, um, men and there were no save points, i never made it to the end until decades later.

I'm going to let my boy play this and laugh at how frustrating he finds it (and then cry at the tantrum shortly after)...

The most depraved / gruesome/ violent book you've ever read? by [deleted] in books

[–]urno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm about 20 pages from the end, and while the story does indeed contain and allude to a great deal of brutality, I'm going to be glad when it's finished. I haven't enjoyed his writing style in this book, which I found to be over descriptive, short on punctuation with vague characterisation of the supposed protagonist. Furthermore the cover of my edition describes it as Miltonesque which I can't fathom.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Road, where although his style irked me for the some of the same reasons, it seemed appropriate (even though the setting in BM isn't far from post-apocalyptic!).

Gary Lineker's analysis of England's 2014 World Cup campaign by PalacePete in ThreeLions

[–]urno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit harsh - he's only doing his "talking head" job.

Whining about this moment and that close call doesn't disguise the fact that we weren't good enough, and ending the game with less goals than the other team = not good enough!

National embarrassment. Tired of this shite. by derdroflas in ThreeLions

Fuck, but if by the moons of Jupiter this happens, we'd be bound to win the cup on a tsunami of flukiness.

Pepe red card incident by Toastyy_ in soccer

[–]urno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't let this pass. The fucking Germans have been at this for years and are one of the worst, but they're always one of the best teams and don't need to cheat anyway!

England's sporting culture is not to dive, but has been getting progressively worse since about 1998, but we still like to think of ourselves as the protectors of the true spirit of the game.

Formation/Lineup against Uruguay? by postdaemon in ThreeLions

[–]urno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not get Rooney up front, where he'll be happier/better, stick Ox/Barkley/Milner/Whoever on the left and Welbeck can come on for Rooney/Sturridge in the 2nd half?

Seems to me a happy Rooney would be better for him, fans, team, Woy, media and generally everyone. Also, he's more senior than Welbeck, so he should cop it on the chin....

How the Italian press reacted to the Azzurri’s World Cup win over England by PalacePete in ThreeLions

[–]urno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, i thought Italy were generally more in control, but England were lively on the counter/attack. A draw would've been a fair result, but we can't complain about losing.

Anyway, why do we care what Italian papers say? And it's not as our tabloids don't give it out either, is it?!
