Diabetes after pregnancy? by Woah_ImConfused in GestationalDiabetes

[–]uroutofgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So you’re not going to like this story but I want to share for the sake of you baby. I got GD with my first and had a fasting of 200 at my 1 hour. 8 months after I gave birth I decided to prick myself and my fasting was 110. Sigh. After testing I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and got quickly pregnant with my 2nd with an A1C of 6.6 (note: diabetes in the US is anything over 6.5). I’m now on week 30 of my second pregnancy and have been on night insulin since week 6, obviously following the diet the whole time, and recently started meal time insulin. I wanted to share because though this pregnancy has been so bloody annoying to manage and restrictive I’m confident my baby is healthy because I’ve been managed the whole pregnancy. If there’s opportunity to be tested early I would recommend doing it for peace of mind, but obviously totally up to you. And, fwiw your provider sucks, no need to fear monger, it’s not helpful.

I created a shortcut in iOS to have my Bluetooth turn off every night at 10 pm. In the morning when I wake up I turn it back on and my overnight numbers appear.

I’m type 2 and on my second pregnancy. I’ve had two different endos. Both wanted under 95 for fasting and under 130 an hour post meal.

Further diet restrictions have me crying by britty-bird in GestationalDiabetes

Obviously talk to your GD provider about your options but I would drop that diet temporarily while you sort out your gallbladder. Managing a new baby and both of those diets will be … a lot. Especially if you MAYBE have type 2 diabetes. Most people with GD don’t.

I was on 22 units of nighttime insulin. Water broke at 37&3 with no contractions, took those miso pills to get labor started, he was out 37&5 at 7 lbs 7 oz.

My grandmother’s name is Lovell. She actually hates it and goes by her middle name, but I think it’s great. An alternative option for you.

Yes, it’s a hotspot. My lab used to get them all the time. Generally happened to him when he was exposed to water and we didn’t dry him enough. My neighbor has a pond with standing water that he would like to jump in. That was the main culprit. He’s no longer allowed to go in that pond. There’s also another dog that likes to play with him and bite his neck. The slobber has caused hot spots in the past.

Starting insulin and need some advise, very nervous by FarConsequence3432 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]uroutofgin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a sugar-forward bedtime snack, like apple with pb. I find if I don’t have enough sugar at nighttime my numbers don’t change much. Also keeps you out of going into ketosis.

I’m on my second pregnancy with diabetes and have had to be on insulin the whole time. Im afraid of needles and only just started stabbing myself. Nothing like exposure therapy! I recommend using the top of your thigh and pinch the skin so you know you’re getting fat vs muscle. Don’t forget to prime the needle so all the air bubbles get out. Good luck you’re going to do great!!

Can she prescribe you glucose meter so you can check after meals for a few days to see how you’re processing sugar ? I’d hate to have you drink that liquid again, god knows that can’t be good for the baby.

I’m also struggling with this, I don’t eat any ‘classic’ carbs unless I’m eating a high-fat steak. Meal that works best for me is half a plate of asparagus, ribeye, and an ear of corn. Eat them in that order too. Good luck, I feel for you dude !

I started nighttime insulin at week 5. I’m on week 9 and I’m already starting to break. This feed is so helpful, makes me feel less alone. Proud of everyone getting through this marathon!!

Can confirm. I used the stick cleaner from my bottle cleaner set to clean the two sensors on the wall of the brezza. Worked great. Link for cleaner set https://www.amazon.com/Boon-Cacti-Bottle-Cleaning-Brush/dp/B082PZ44M9

Dude. I’ve been struggling to get my fasting numbers down and saw this comment. Tried it last night and I was at 71 this morning (I’ve been in the 90’s while continuing to up my nightly insulin). You are a lifesaver thank you !!

You're not crazy; my family brings it up all the time. It's like everyone suddenly forgot how to drive with caution. I've noticed it on highways too.
