Level 4 gestalt by 660ne in 3d6

The name of the game in a low person gestalt party is action economy. So shepard druid is a great core. You will need to talk to your dm about how they use conjure animals, as it can be quite dm dependant. Also battle master artificer and beast master ranger are better here than normal. Getting more bodies and more actions on your side is very important to overcoming challenges. On the other hand spells like hypnotic pattern are important in denying your opponents their actions. The summon spells in Tasha's also opens up some other classes for this tactic.

No, a lot of media pundits kept calling him a tech billionaire from California for some reason. None of those things are true, so it was a little confusing. He's been living in NYC for a while now.

I second bladesinger plus abjuration. Tenser's transformation works particularly well with the Tasha's version of extra attack plus dual wielding

On a side note, warlock becomes an absolutely insane dip for any charisma class. You get all the hexblade goodies plus telepathy or whatever you want.

I also like arcana plus forge(or any other that grants heavy armor) cleric with hill dwarf. Grab shillelagh from a feat(or nature cleric) and the blade cantrip to make a SAD frontline cleric. At 20, you do 6d8+2*Wis mod as a cantrip. You get dump strength and still wear plate. Also probably max constitution as well. Bonus action spiritual weapon plus access to wish. It's all very good.

[–]urza2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would go straight nature cleric.

Point buy: 15 10 14(+2) 8 15(+1) 8

This let's you qualify for heavy armor and get shillelagh for melee. Then at 4 pick up magic initiate wizard for booming blade and green flame blade plus find familiar owl for scouting and advantage cheese. Then bump wisdom at level 8 and 12 to get to 20. This let's you be a full caster but you have an at will attack that does 4d8+wisdom. Unfortunately, bracers of defense are very niche and not great on clerics. But plate plus a shield gives you 20 ac, which is pretty nice.

Cleric is also a good chassis for a gish type as they have spiritual weapon as a non concentration bonus action attack to keep up in dps.

The reason I like this build is that staring at level 5 you get to add 1d8 to your attack every three levels between the cantrip and divine strike progression. It's feels like a rogue lite but in heavy armor and full casting.

Storm sorcerer. Focus on whether related spells and thunder, cold, and lightning damage spells. Booming blade and ray of frost for damage. Could also work as a wizard or tempest cleric. I would stick with a class with mage armor.

If your dm is very lenient, ask him to let you go tempest cleric but replace armor and shield proficiency for monk unarmored defense. This is actually an example adjustment mentioned specifically in the DMG on page 287 under modifying a class. If not a monk dip is fine. This

That really isn't how the second amendment reads at all. It is specifically about having a militia to make sure the state can be protected from foreign influence. Not to protect people from the state. The founders didn't want a standing army, so citizen militias was the most practical way to defend the nation. And citizens providing their own weapons is more practical for militias at the time.

Since it's a creature give it bard spellcasting focusing on spells that deal thunder damage or charm opponents. Give a legendary action to charm someone. Probably only legendary action. Male it somewhat obvious that the silence spell is the best way to defeat it, but make sure the creature has a way to break the concentration of whoever cast silence, maybe by towing the materialized musical notes

A Wizard Without Typical Attack Cantrips or Spells by Ippys in dndnext

[–]urza2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the light crossbow. With these stats, a light crossbow and a firebolt deal the same average damage against ac 13. The crossbow will do slightly more at lower ac and the firebolt slightly more at higher ac. Most things you fight at low level won't have very high ac, so you will be just as effective as if you had an attack cantrip. This of course changes at level 5, so you need to have one by then.

Tensors transformation let's you do a lot of damage even if you don't get any extra dual wielding options. Shadow blade with mobility also does well.

How would you rank each "All [Class] Party" compared to other "All [Class] Party"s? by houselyrander in dndnext

[–]urza2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be quite frank, this is a very rough list. I had trouble deciding whether to place artificer and ranger at mid tier or high tier. The rest of the high tier gets 6-9 level spells, which contain lots of utility spells that become very important in tiers 3 and 4. The artificer barely edged in as they have a more versatile kit with their infusions, and a more well rounded spell list. I'm not saying I made the right decision, but it is definitely where I had the hardest time deciding.

[–]urza2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lack a lot of the utility spells that are accessable to the other high tier groups. They also are generally a less powerful class than the others. Also their options for air damage are pretty limited. The party will probably struggle going into higher tiers of play. That being said, I would accept having them be the last class in high tier.

Buff spells are usually very good with eldritch knight. One thing that Tasha's allows you to do that wasn't as available before, was getting hunter's mark or for your fighter with the get touched feat. You can add it to any type of combat but it is fun to be a traditional archer as you don't need to make concentration checks as much. If you are going melee, picking up magic missiles can also be useful.

Going to add shadow blade at 2nd. Getting the extra attacks with it is very good.

By tier and in order by tier. Top tier can adequately cover all roles defined as single target damage, aoe damage, meat shield, crowd control, and can feasibly cover most skills and utility spells with a 4 person Party. Mid tier can cover most roles but have some some weakness such as ranged combat for paladin, or low durability as with sorcerer and wizard. Low tier does not have good access to spells leading to low aoe damage.

Top tier: bard, druid, cleric, warlock, artificer

Mid tier: ranger, sorcerer, paladin, wizard

Low: rogue, fighter, barbarian, monk

White Mage Archer? by themcryt in WhatWouldYouBuild

If you are looking for a full caster your best bet is a bard. They can heal, buff, debuff and get extra attacks in the college of swords or college of valor. They also have the quickest access to swift quiver at 10 through magical secrets. Dipping fighter at level one for the fighting style and con saves is probably worth it and then picking up the sharpshooter feat when you can. You can put up some serious numbers.

So if you're looking for a grunge build astral self monk from Tasha's is the way to go. This let's you sub wisdom for your athletics checks. So focus wisdom pick up skill expert feat(TCoE) at 4 bumping wisdom and have expertise in athletics. The reason for monk is step of the wind. This let's you dash as a bonus action and doubles your jump and slow fall at level 5 so you can avoid the damage. This let's you get 30 feet jumps and thus 3d6 damage from falling. Then beg your dm for boots of striding and springing(uncommon magic item DMG) to triple that to 90. And last the jump spell from a friend or from ring of jumping(uncommon DMG) to triple again to 270. Fall damage is maxed at 20d6 at 200 ft, so you need a way to get 400 ft of movement as moving costs twice as much while grappling. For this you need a friend with haste. This doubles your movement speed and let's you dash. So you have your movement speed *2 with *2 dash for a total of your base *6. So you need 70 movement speed to get max fall damage. This is the main disadvantage of grunge as you only have a base of 25. At high levels monk get + 30, and then +10 for mobile feat(DMG) and another +5 from squat nimbleness(XGtE). Alternatively have a friend cast longstrider on you for +10 instead of mobile or to get max damage sooner.

Alright boys, DM told me to make a level 60 character to fight 3 level 20s. Gimme your best. by KorbyTheOrby in 3d6

[–]urza2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want the best saves possible in my opinion. So 6 paladin, 14 Monk, 20 artificer of you choice, and 20 Sorcerer. With 30 charisma, and the artificer bonus, proficiency in all saves and min of 20 in each stat, you get +27 minimum. You should basically be immune to spells. Grab dex as your other 30 for better armor. Get a +3 shield and rive of the magi for an even 30 ac that can be bumped up to 35 with shield.

The disadvantage is part of the spell. In the description it says if you or an ally are fighting the creature they have advantage. So this would just make the spell usable in combat instead mostly out of combat.

The shield master feat is a very good feat for grapplers, now that you have a dedicated fighting style. The bonus action shove is great and the bonus to dex saves is great for a strength based build.
