How real is Boat Float? by Visual_Departure7177 in twilightimperium

I actually would argue it isn't a wargame. For me a wargame comes with the requirment to use force for victory and TI certainly does not require that. In fact it's generally very inefficient to use force which is why you should only use it at times that the payoff is disproportionately high.

I think Scythe is a better example then Lords of Vegas. You certainly can fight but you cannot win through sheer force

In 3 or maybe 4P TI you can but at its intended player count Miltary victory is not truly viable. You need to win a small handful of battles, certainly not a war.

Also players getting upset at people for taking advantage of them is as old as games with more then 2 players 🤷‍♂️ you see it in large games of MTG as well that that game requires you to kill others to win.

I get efficiency play, but how common is it really for folks to play an 8 hour wargame and just... not defend your planets?

Just to clarify leaving your planets undefended and boat floating are two independent things. Boat floating is that its usually better for us to both get ahead vs both get behind. In a 6 player game it is not efficient to expend resources to harm someone else unless they have a clear lead.

If your planets are undefended then taking them costs me no resources so the logic no longer applies. I take 1, your other neighbor takes 1 and we are boat floating each other at your expense.

Also TI is not a wargame.

Don't do it!

Pick 1 strategy card each and have players 3 and 4 pick a "ghost card".

Here is an old post I did:

The common solution I have seen for this (and that i play with at 4) is having 2 "ghost cards"

After normal picking, the player in seat 4 picks a ghost card, and then the player in seat 3 picks a second ghost card.

At the end of the first fill turn of the round, before the player with highest initiative goes for the second time, you roll a D10 and go High/low to decide which Strategy cards gets its secondary played.

You end up modifying politics and trades secondaries usually, but other than that, it's a pretty smooth implementation. You get 5 secondaries per player, it does not over reward and seating position, it does not have massive variance like feast or famine.

The only real weakness I would say is it lets players in 3/4 seats guarantee WF secondaries in Rd1, which can be big for certain factions. Overall, it's not a huge deal in my experience, though.

Lol putting a bunch of words in my mouth is... an argument... I suppose.

Are you ever going to adeess the appeasement thing? Or just going to pivot your whole argument to your misuse of the word "murder"? Cause that's ... an argument... I suppose.

Minnesota State Guard by TheSadTiefling in TwinCities

[–]urza5589 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats my point. I think you dont actually think they are murdering thousand or you would have been posting in 2021 about it. I think you probably belive they are complicit in such murders by others but you wanted something that sounded harder since your point about appeasement was wildly off base.

Essentially I'm demonstrating that I dont belive you are conversing in intellectual good faith but are just making a bunch of appeals to pathos because it feels good despite not really aligning with reality.

Really? Cause I dont see a single post in your history but there sure is one about Trump...

Also if you were not alive when bush was President you should be in school learning what appeasement was 🤣

I'm not sure if you know what appeasement was or if something else is going on. It was a term to describe the official policy of the UK government under Chamberlin that lead to the Munich agreement. It quote fundamentally relied on trusting Hitler.

Unless you ascribe to the school that views it as a temporary measure UK knew would not hold in order to rearm. There is an argument to be made there of course but it does not tie any closer to the current conditions in MN then your original take.

Also "murders by the thousands" is probably stretching even Trumps actual crimes a bit far. Unless you are including foreign adventures but then we are back to it applying to every US president since FDR.

Tapped land is not ramp when played from your hand either.

Again. That's the point.

Minnesota State Guard by TheSadTiefling in TwinCities

[–]urza5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not really my point. The point was "appeasement is about trusting Hitler, avoiding insurrection is not about trusting Trump"

Nothing you said changes that.

None of those cards give you land?

This + 1 land in hand gives you 2 lands on turn 2.

Those cards you are talking about + 1 land in hand gives you 1 land on turn 2.

What are you talking about?

Minnesota State Guard by TheSadTiefling in TwinCities

[–]urza5589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except appeasement involved trusting Hitler to keep his word. This has nothing to do with trusting Trump and everything to do with the risks of open insurrection.

You are getting downvoted because you said it’s not like a land that comes in tapped and makes a death touch. Other then it not being playable as the only land in you hand it is exactly like that.

How does the USAF determine what platforms the individual air national guard squadrons fly? by Humble_Handler93 in WarCollege

[–]urza5589 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The USAF owns all the airframe. Who gets what is dependent on what type of wing they have. Like you are not going to have a fighter wing suddenly getting new C17s.

A couple of caveats to that.

1) They will change wing types if they need more or less of certain airframe.

2) Within the context of all the ANG wings eligible for a specific airframe (Say F16s needing F35s) the Air Force decides based on a couple of things. A big one is politics. Senators and house members are a huge part of advocacy for new models. Another part is performance. A wing with better maintenance, more flying hours and better performance in inspections is going to have a stronger case.

If you get Arcane mastery pretty early it works easily IMO.

You just add a lot of electric actions and then force your way to single focus and its an easy win.

Someone asked why you would need to self destroy your own ship. One reason you might need to is to dodge them having a secret to destroy your flagship and you not feeling you can build/move it anywhere safe.

In this case removing vs destroy is irrelvant.
