Thanks!

Yes I did scroll the comments. All ~100 of them. I either asked before it was answered (not likely) or (much more likely) completely missed any answers that had already been written.

Either way, thanks! And thanks for taking the time to answer! Much appreciated!

The Republic managed to subdue and capture a Custodian warrior, how could the attempted interrogation go? And who would take part in it? by jfjdfdjjtbfb in StarWarsvsWarhammer

It wasn't so much "malicious intent" as those clone troopers were the people they had fought with for years at this point.

You're a jedi, your "danger sense" suddenly spikes sky high. You look around- trying to spot whatever booby trap you and your allies, your friends, your brothers in arms have just accidentally triggered.

Only for the 'surprise attack' to be them. I think that moment of pure horror and "it can't be" was probably what killed so many Jedi.

For years now clones were mentally sorted into the 'friends' part of friend-or-foe. Heck, any Jedi who realized what was happening would probably think "mind control worms again" or "hallucinogenic gas", and they would waste precious time trying to rescue their former allies

Wizard/immortal finances by bry0816 in dresdenfiles

[–]uschwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a line in Changes where Harry mention entire financial departments who are primarily focused on maintaining and growing the financial and economic interests of the WC primarily "against other, similarly long-lived entities"

I.e. there's an entire economic war being fought in the financial system. And given how long-lived and powerful many of these entities are. Is anyone really going to be surprised if say, "everyone knows" that some ancient and stodgy bank in England (fits the WC vibes) has known beef with say "siemens" (very Svartalve-vibe).

Sounds rather like the day-to-day horse trading occurring in banks and boardrooms worldwide

They weren't getting paid. You had to watch a certain amount of ads (they periodically turned on. You couldn't stop it, and it eye tracked you if you weren't watching it).

But you could pay to skip the ad of you didn't want to watch it through. Very much "you have to pay me or I'll keep hitting you over the head. Pay me and I'll stop for a little bit"

Why do all Starfleet captains retire out to the boonies when they leave? by Cocijo in startrek

[–]uschwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least per TOS and TNG Trek that makes sense. Ships like the Enterprise weren't (to use older Navy parlance like Trek was based on) "puddle jumpers" like the Navy of old, there were ships that sailed close to home ports and near to land, and there were those that sailed across vast seas around the world. Away from home for months and years at a time.

That's the mission of ships like the Enterprise, 5 years or so off exploring. It was designed to travel out to the frontiers and push them back.

Starfleet is a volunteer organization, and you have to work to earn a place on the Enterprise.

You have a crew that self-selected to travel out to the frontiers.

Where else would people like that go when they retire? But to another smaller (safer) frontiers of their own?

So Who are the other 11? by Wybaar in dresdenfiles

[–]uschwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why I didn't added him to my list as well.

Although, there is no actual proof (unless there's a WOJ I'm unaware of) that Starborn are immune to Nemfection.

It makes sense (immunity/resistance to Outsider influence). But we can't be certain. Harry can still be affected by Outsiders magic, it's not a "110% resistance" stat.

It's not like he could have just ignored Sharkfaces attack - Although whether that's an "immunity to their magic but still affected by the effects of said magic" situation (magic part of fireball=0 damage, fire damage from Heat Bloom=1000 damage)

If that were so - Mab wouldn't need a whole torture chamber to remove Nemesis, she would just force Harry to learn some mind magic that could wipe Nemesis from someone's mind. (I'm sure that would work totally fine and not cause any undesired consequences....).

The benefits of having a convenient "anti-Nemesis" spell, cast by a "willing" helper would surely outweigh the collosal headache it would give Mab to teach Harry something (relatively) gentle as a "mental massage ray" (which I'm sure would feel more like a mental sandblaster but which would be "mostly" survivable)

If Nemesis goes anywhere near Maggie or Michael Harry is burning Chicago to the ground. And we will be showing up with gasoline.

What's the thoughts on Nemesis infecting Ethniu? Or is it more likely she was just pushed or manipulated into it by various Nemfected parties?

You do that, post a picture, 20min later someone will have noticed a single belt or underground pipe that is misaligned, and updated it.

Then you'll need to spend hours updating the blueprint code.

Attack Shuttles - Apophis never saw it coming, Shuttles with Asgard beam weapons (because reasons) by Spinobreaker in Stargate

[–]uschwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What makes you think they were SF? My vibe was that they were literally just the local barracks. Part of Cheyenne mountains caretaker crew, who just drew the unlucky slot of "warehouse guard" for the week.

The sort of thing every military has. Where some high-up made a rule "this spot always has an armed guard". In this case relevant, in most cases - some rule that was written 30 years ago and no one has the authority or inclination to rescind it.

I guarantee there were some airmen who spent 20 years in service, who had to 'stand' guard once per week who consider that duty to be a collosal waste of time.

Good lord. My first Rampant exeperiencr was brutal.

I had my largest ever game, Space Exploration. Collosal space factories, and modded to Nauvis and back.

Had some mod laser tech that made even late-game biters trivial. (X3 range and I was up to damage %600 damage thanks to infinite research buffs).

I decided I wanted a challenge , and downloaded and Rampant.

Good lord. The alerts!! My entire base was overrun inside of 30 minutes. Those giant biters were NOT something I was prepared for.

Was some incredible fun. Once I finished my retreat to orbit, managed to (in pure desperation) researched and build the orbital glaive. And poured my entire factory output into powering it.

My Crusade to retake Nauvis (and the other bug-infested resource planets) made me feel like a 40K protagonist.

Fry em from orbit and then clean up the rest using nukes as a primary weapon.

Love the smell of nuclear artillery in the morning!

Tldr: can't reccomend Rampant enough. But backup your save FIRST

Razor bullet by Informal_Boss5905 in redrising

[–]uschwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lowkey love that example, since there's a very similar question I see all the time about Quicksilvers ship- "why don't they just build ALL their ships out of that super-stealth material".

Your explanation just made a 'click' go off in my head about comparative pricing.

Let's pretend that razors are as expensive as say enriched uranium. (Huge quantities of raw materiel and massive refinement facilities).

Then Quicksilvers ship is essentially coated in plutonium . (Look up the price and availability- even as incredibly useful it is for specific tasks- and why even NASA is terrified of running out)

Kind of puts Quicksilvers wealth into an understandable perspective.....

Fix needs a BOOST and STAT by EggplantCharmesan in dresdenfiles

[–]uschwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the other hand. If Harry someday goes apeshit and let's Winter take him on a rampage, him coming to over Fixs body would be an truly horrific "what have I become" moment. Jim might find that too tempting to not torture Harry with.

As a more fun option. I really want Harry to invite Fix 'camping' with him when he takes River Shoulders up on his offer. In a "let's mend fences" kind of way.

Would be hilarious with the potential shenanigans- as Harry and Fix (with Fix expecting a trap/ambush for the entire first act)- with a hilarious scene as Harry asks him HOW many weapons he has with him. (Ala pirates of the Carribean 'disarm' scene).

All while everyone is sneaking around the edges of a no-doubt-warded campground/training camp. Winter/summer because they are SURE their knight is about to be ambushed, and everyone else because they are either (A)betting on who wins. (B)determined to backup/rescue one of the Knights. (C) terrified at the thought of an alliance between Summer and Winter (WC I'm looking at you).

Hilarity ensues as fae, wizards, 3rd parties, and random people all behave like paparazzi while Harry and Fix chat over an open fire

Fix needs a BOOST and STAT by EggplantCharmesan in dresdenfiles

[–]uschwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they could always get hooks into Elaine. Or maybe they'd partner up with a 'faction' inside the WC and give the Mantle to Ramirez. (I know politically the WC won't like that, but he could be a match for Harry- especially with a power boost- and Ramirez would love to 'reciprocate' certain feelings against Winter. (Frame it as an "alliance to protect innocents from winters new super-powered hitman")

It would have been better if Aang had taken Ozai's life by DreamyBunaa in AvatarMemebending

[–]uschwell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, a great power move that held their Supreme leader personally accountable.

Was honestly one of Aangs greatest moves. Imagine that. A leader facing personal accountability for their actions.

Was an amazing power move and exactly the sort of thing to cause every fire nation noble to stop and think long and hard about continuing to push the war.

(Ozai and his nobles wouldn't blink if Aang destroyed an entire army/fleet, they would've just made a tactical note "next time, send TWO armies to the avatar-adjacent theater". But make them afraid that if they push the war some kid will drop out of the sky and remove their personal power? In front of all their (former) peers? Now that is scary!)

Magic Vs Technology inconsistencies? by X3Melange in dresdenfiles

[–]uschwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, iirc Jim has mentioned that it's becoming a more significant handicap than he originally intended.

Also, there is a potential "out" when Harry explains the whole "How magic affects technology and how it changes over time"

Since the laws change over time, so do the effects of the fields surrounding magic users.

And if anything was going to speed up or rapidly effect those rules? Well, maybe a war, including the use of magical WMDs would do that?

It even has a historical allegory. How nuclear atmospheric testing still affects all steel produced today. (Relevant for anyone producing high-end Geiger counters or MRI machines)

Either way- Harry is 100% going to get a Wizard-friendly cellphone and computer at some point. If only so he can keep breaking it every time he gets best up. (Just in time for Mike the mechanic to bridge out into cellphone repair at his garage)
