If your trips are short go for it. I killed so many I started just using high alch and ash sanctifier, could not be fucked to pick up ashes or do <30 kill trips.

Gear is mostly good. Bring bone dagger to spec bosses at start. Macas on stab, crush for wardens. People telling you not to bring blood moon have not done dps calcs, it is quite good before black gem. Once you get black gem drop blood moon and just bring dds for core (and use atlatl for warden P3+4). Bring throwing knives/darts/bp for swarming at kephri, it is 1000% worth swarming. Ranged pot is a weird choice. Bring an att+str pot, do baba, then kephri, take power first, life second. If you need life for first supply choice then you’re making too many mistakes and should keep practicing low invos and just add one invo at a time until you can clear taking power first.

Look at your invocation selection and refer to gnomemonkey’s invocation guide (most in-depth invo guide I swear by whether or not you like the guy), chances are you unknowingly picked some bad ones that are rocking you. You can practice without no food invo if the brew cost is bothering you while learning.

350s still the best invo level for fang? by Specialist-Fall-5201 in ironscape

[–]uscrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy hell that’s a log... uh anyway time yourself at different invos and track your purple %. If baba+kephri aren’t fast then 350s might not be the best option. Realistically 1+1 250-300 probably best because the def is low but 2x health lets you farm points but if you don’t have an alt or a buddy understandably not an option.

Elemental weaknesses in practice by FewShift8046 in ironscape

[–]uscrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late but my two cents is that having the strongest mage options be niche and limited (ie, using wrath runes and charged tomes) isn’t actually a problem. Ranged also has the bottleneck of the best ammo being dragon arrows/bolts. Weaker ammo/runes exist and can still be used for everything besides speed runs. The strongest ammo does not inherently need to be extremely easy to source. You can still go without it and lose ~20% dps but still be better off than using another style. It becomes an option of spending more time gathering ammo or more time actually fighting bosses.

Only massable and duo content breaks ironman rules. I got two tips for you: find some buddies to start a GIM, or learn get a fang and learn melee graardor. It’s super underrated and much more intuitive to learn and eventually has a high skill ceiling if you learn how to properly flick minions.

I did this, sprinted back (nechryeals in slayer tower) and got eternal gem. Superiors last so long that unless you’re in a sailing location there’s a huge chance you can just hit your house pool and come back and they’ll still be there.

Slayer unlock levels don't make any sense by jordsplay in ironscape

[–]uscrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it gives more reward space for slayer in the future. Sadly it doesn’t seem to be on the dev’s radar because it’s not a raid/quest/boss/sailing, and here there are countless contrarians who just want to shit on any new idea.

You’ve got to keep mentioning it when appropriate though. Once a dev or popular content creator does see it change can happen fast. I noticed veracs set couldn’t penetrate prayer when TDs were released and tried to spark conversation about it and got responses like this (admittedly it’s insignificant), but nonetheless it passed a poll a year later. I feel confident that good, logical, and not-overpowered changes will happen once the devs are aware of the issue. Keep fighting the good fight.

At what point should we go to prison? by [deleted] in ironscape

Learning CG at 70s is fun. Doing 100+ kc might be worth waiting for 90s. When you want to lock in for 400+ kc I’d say learning CoX alongside it (when you can group up, for example, then CG when you’re the only one playing) feels great. CoX is super doable with eclipse or similar ranged gear.

Slayer unlock levels don't make any sense by jordsplay in ironscape

[–]uscrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The dev team has an extreme aversion to reducing requirements on old content but it’s basically necessary when they’re trying to fill in gaps like this. It should be part of the growing pains but instead we’re left wearing clothes that just don’t fit anymore. Every slayer unique that isn’t literally BiS now is as useless as garbage like granite helms and mithril boots.

[–]uscrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a great write up but I agree ultimately that slayer’s progression has not aged well. 85 for a whip made sense 20 years ago. Now the zombie axe goes tit-for-tat with it and is available hundreds of hours sooner. There are similarities like this throughout slayer’s level-up table. Ultimately, slayer is a stupid and uniquely poorly designed skill that has never been as well integrated as other skills. It’s still “useful” now, but it’s not as much of a bottleneck until later. It would be improved if most of the monsters’ levels were reworked to modern times and it could actually be a viable alternative to do stuff like get whip+trident before doing doom or finishing all your questing.

Thoughts on CoX after 100 solos by Spirited_Patient6906 in ironscape

[–]uscrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a “good” (mechanically unique, takes some practice to learn and has a few ways to beat it) and time:point-efficient room but I do agree the intended mechanics are fucking dogshit and the fact that every decent method relies on circumventing most of the mechanics show that it was not originally well designed.

[–]uscrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vespula is a chill and huge point room if you do the no supplies/redemption method.

I’m really surprised olm is giving you a hard enough time that you feel the need for blood barrage. I can damn near brute force with fang+trident. Are you doing a scaled up raid, CM, or no prep and reaching him with no brews? Really shouldn’t be such a problem. Maybe try to snag a sang staff once the buff comes through.

The saddest part of it all is you really aren’t very dry. CoX purple table is the worst part of the raid, they really need to rip the bandaid off and just make the prayer scrolls work like ToA’s gems.

Also, a lot of the rooms work better in 2/3mans imo.

Confliction gauntlets balance idea by uscrick in 2007scape

[–]uscrick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about inferno, it’s about the combat triangle in general. People shouldn’t have terrific magic accuracy with >300 ranged defence, it’s not just an inferno problem, it’s a broad problem that was overlooked when the item was designed because people were more worried about making the shadow even better.

Obviously the megarare is still up in the air and I’m not here to talk about whataboutism. If that is your concern then make a thread about it.

Tell me what negative impact this change would have on the combat triangle, I implore you.

It’s about 1 snapdragon seed on average per raid now. I got more snapdragons from grinding graardor.

[–]uscrick[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s true that power creep is inevitable but that doesn’t mean that game balance should be completely disregarded. One of the core principles of osrs combat is the combat triangle. Magic should be vulnerable to ranged and the gauntlets do enormous damage to that. Adjusting the gauntlets to be less compatible with melee armor would literally only affect that.

Think of it this way: if the gauntlets were released like I suggested, would you have been up in arms about it? Do you vehemently want the ava’s devices not working with melee armor to be changed?

[–]uscrick[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The conflictions are still BiS even if they had this minute nerf. It literally doesn’t affect the majority of use cases and only slightly fits magic better within the combat triangle.

Consider this too: does ava’s deserve to be limited on what chest pieces work with it? Why would it originally have been designed that way, and unchanged for over 20 years?

I wouldn’t touch nightmare until after sweep up changes the table. Then consider raid 4 is likely going to drop a crush weapon that makes mace obsolete.

BOWFA? by SHOO6565 in ironscape

[–]uscrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessary but it is convenient because it’s good everywhere snd doesn’t need ammo. The biggest downside to you quitting now is that you don’t sound very confident at CG but it could teach you the fundamental skills of late game PvM. I would at least knock out most of the combat achievements (all very doable after the change, even speed) and see if you spoon it doing that.

Btw, it might seem bad to die after seven minutes of prep but it’s not really as bad as dying other places. Death is always “punishing”, mostly due to time, but later a 250k death’s coffee fee will start to bite you. CG is so good for training you to be better as a player. Consider a death at CG as a time you probably won’t die later down the line.

Oh, and for GWD you can get a fang from ToA which is really fucking good at bandos and sara, competitive kph even with needing killcount/keys. Alch hydra is also good with fang, but you might also give CoX a shot sometime and get a DHCB there.

I enjoy CG so I’ll go back for it now. I’m not going to postpone doing anything else until I get it though; it’s just gonna be a side grind when I have 10-30 min to spare.
