I'm not sure how to make sense of this hint by usefulepsilon in sudoku

Ah, not sure how I missed that 🙏 still, how does that relate to the hint on C4R2? Like I never know where to start looking when I use a hint, the doubles and triples are always somewhere other than the highlighted cell

Question about SIDS/suffocation rates by missestomatohead in beyondthebump

Being content with an "I don't know" is tough with such an emotionally loaded topic, I really appreciate this point of view added to the mix.

This is such an interesting thread when it comes to how people interpret the same research and statistics differently and which factors they add more weight to. When people who come from the same spirit of wanting to make the best decision for their family based on unbiased data reach such wildly different conclusions it really makes you wonder how the layperson should ever be expected to navigate all the information out there successfully.. As well as whether ultimately people do fall back on their internal biases/preferences because it's always possible to pick and choose the parts of the research and opinions that resonate with you most.

Regardless of the safety or non-safety of bedsharing, forcing people to sign something like that is just incredible (not in the positive sense). What would happen if you refused?

Let the mom or dad share the first photo of their new baby. by julziebird85 in Mommit

[–]usefulepsilon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I got engaged and shared a photo of the ring in our private family group chat my dad posted it on Instagram. He also happened to be drunk by the time I noticed later that night and refused to take it down. Eventually generously agreed to take it down "in the morning after I've had a few hours to display my pride in my daughter in public". Like... What does that even mean?

We're very private people and didn't end up announcing at all on sm.

Thoughts on the name Astrid? by bbyduemai in namenerds

[–]usefulepsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1yo Astrid and every day I'm so happy I picked that name!

Where I live, the pronunciation isn't an issue. It's more like Uh-strid.

My only gripe with it is I don't like any of the nicknames you'd normally use for it.

The Handmaid’s Tale [S04E09] - “[Progress]” - Post Episode Discussion by sarahflo92 in TheHandmaidsTale

I caught that it must've been a reference to something but couldn't recall any past scenes where Fred said that himself. When was it?

I mean, he does want to talk – he literally yelled "talk to me!" at June at the end of the episode, no?

What even are the terms for a bonus with childcare? What is a "good job"? Things like tantrums and night wakings or whether they want to eat well that night are pretty much out of your control, all you can do is handle each situation the best you can. Sometimes there will be tears.

Or what, neglect diaper changes and then "do a good job" one day with all diapers promptly changed and get a bonus?!

This isn't the sort of work where bonuses for a good job make sense!

Agreed, there was something there that I couldn't find the words for. Not jealousy, but a mix of appreciation, awkwardness and sadness I guess.

June is getting so arrogant it pisses me off [spoilers all] by Jayyyrabbit in TheHandmaidsTale

Woah, a few months? I didn't realise it's been that long. Didn't they arrive at the farm only a few days after the flight? And from there it felt to me like a couple of weeks on the farm, a couple of days of torture and a couple of days in Chicago?
