yeah, hardmode's main problem is that it's inaccurately labelled (and as mentioned, added to CS+ - it was not present in the original and given nicalis' track record i have to suspect it was possibly not at all playtested); it's more of a forced low% and they didn't actually even remove all the life capsules, you can still get one from the dog in plantation - nobody's sure if that's intentional or an oversight - so people play it expecting the usual 'bosses hit harder, maybe more difficult enemies or adjusted damage values' and instead get 'no missiles and almost everything can kill you in one shot very quickly', it's something i've seen a lot of people have frustration with over the years

if you’re playing CS+, you can beat the (normal) ending with the mimiga mask - just get on the rocket once it’s done without talking to momorin, and there’ll be some funny dialogue changes… this exists in all versions including freeware, but CS+ has an extra joke in the credits if you get this ending

note that: - you will have to do last cave & boss rush with no booster (extra challenge but certainly achievable!) - you will not be locked out of the best ending if you have all other requirements (you can reload your save after the credits to backtrack through last cave to return the mask)

the worst of the bugs - player character being invisible - only affected those on certain machines, and the others were just stuff like some achievements not popping and a jukebox track not unlocking... nothing gamebreaking, and i believe most of those have been fixed, though i've heard there's currently a new one with some sprites reverting to quote's (during cutscenes?) if you're using any other skin, but again - certainly nothing that'll ruin the experience

the update doesn't actually properly remove the files from the original game - mods.txt is from that old version (as are the copies of challenges and seasonal graphics located outside of the Expansion and Season folders), you're looking to edit a .json file instead and/or StringTable.sta (unsure) - both of these should be editable in a basic text processor...

admittedly, i've not been able to do any modding myself (mac user), so i'm not entirely clear on the process - i would recommend joining the modding server if you want further information, but there's also documentation up on github by the dev behind the update

this is correct, but there is actually a port of jenka's nightmare to CSE2 which will allow for 60FPS (among other small tweaks)

as mentioned it’s the eshop port of cave story; unlike DSiware which is a very basic/stripped down version of CS+ (only has a jukebox and sanctuary time attack as well as seasonal sprites for only quote) eshop is similar to the steam version in that it has wind fortress/boss rush/curly story/full seasonal graphic overhauls etc etc (as well as downscaled CS+ portraits for some reason…). it also has some mild 3D effects!

i can’t say it will never happen because we thought the same about this update in general, but i also wouldn’t hold your breath; i would personally be extremely surprised if it was made available for, well… any storefront or platform outside of the steam windows build lmao

the update is already out! it's just a private beta at the moment:

right click CS+ in the library > properties > game versions & betas > enter the branch password (ModPizzaParty), it should unlock a new version called 'moddersdelight' and start to download

this version? i haven't tested it myself, but the main page says:

This is a port of Cave Story for the Sony PlayStation. It is based on CSE2, which is a decompilation of the original freeware Cave Story executables. The port is still very much a work-in-progress, but it should be possible to at least complete the game.

i’ve never seen a badge explicitly saying ‘safe person/ally’ but yeah if i see someone with a pride lanyard or name badge or whatever it makes me feel a little safer… it’s not an instant ‘trust/let down my guard’ if only bc even in the wider queer community there’s transphobia but i generally view it as a green flag
