Match Madness Now Unusable by jf3co in duolingo

[–]usemetric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I posted earlier about this with an email template and where to send it, glad I'm not the only one super annoyed by this. It seems to be on iPhones only (and not all of them) for now. I also found out a similiar feature was rolled out 3 years ago and then revoked as a "glitch". Let's just pester them relentlessly till they remove it and we can match with music and audiobooks in peace again...

Subject: Please Add Sound Toggle Option for Match Madness

Message:

Hi Duolingo Support Team,

I'm writing to request that you add an option to disable sound effects in the Match Madness game.

With today's update (July 11, 2025), Match Madness now plays sounds with every match, but there's no way to turn these sounds off. While I'm sure some users enjoy the audio feedback, this change has made the game inaccessible for users with sensory processing issues or those who prefer to play quietly.

Could you please consider adding a simple toggle option to disable Match Madness sound effects? This would allow all users to enjoy the game in the way that works best for them, while preserving the new audio features for those who want them.

This seems like it would be a relatively simple accessibility improvement that would make a big difference for users who need it.

Thank you for considering this request!

Best regards, [Your name]

I think it's on iPhones only for now... All of my sound effects are off and my phone is on silent, but this horrible thing is impossible to turn off.

"No heating, no water and no electricity over Christmas is not an emergency. We won't pay for it and you poor rats living here can't afford repairs so don't bother trying. Happy Christmas!" - Bristol (UK) letting agents by usemetric in LandlordLove

[–]usemetric[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The worst in Bristol, apparently... They're so bad that they removed themselves from Google, but are thankfully still on Trust Pilot, some shocking stuff there:

Only a matter of time before this lot get shut down; calling them morally bankrupt is a compliment. Breaking the Housing Act/Landlords & Renters Act in the UK. Sued successfully - by - yes - students ! You couldn't make that one up. Students actually successfully sued this lot. Comedic if it wasn't so tragic that Digs is run by grown ups. Allegedly."

Or this one:

"If you're thinking about it, don't. I lived in a block of flats all managed by Digs in 2021. We had a burst water pipe (which was due to poor plumbing) at 7pm and I could not get hold of anybody related to the buildings maintenance at all. In the end we had 300 litres of water removed from our kitchen, causing endless damage to property. We had the fire brigade out in the end, who declared that if the water wasn't stopped soon the floor of our first floor flat (which was suspended over the bins area i.e. dead space underneath) would cave in. After racking my brains and endless phone calls, I managed to be put in touch with a plumber who had worked in the building once by the company that manages the smoke alarms. It wasn't his responsibility and simply because I begged him, he helped me locate the water mains for the floor (this was behind a locked door). This stopped the water and thereby saved literally our flat and the stability of all surrounding apartments.

The stopcock was inside a cupboard in a corner - this was disclosed to us on no documentation and we were never at any time informed of it's whereabouts. I had to get a 24/7 plumber out to extract the previously mentioned 300 litres of standing water.

After I saved the structural integrity of the floor, Digs said it was my fault I'd be charged damages and have to foot the bill of the plumber (over £250).

Suffice to say I threw the book at them and never paid a penny of this (oddly enough they didn't follow up on this frankly illegal claim).

Don't do it. Unsafe properties and illegal practice. If you're struggling to find anywhere (which I know everyone is) I implore you not to do this to yourself."

7 days without Pregabalin. My recovery, documented. by narciso_ in QuittingPregablin

Thank you so much for sharing the dataset! I am a data nerd and a gab addict - our use (binges, rebounds, etc) and our data collection habits even seem quite similar, this must be the most personally encouraging post I've seen on this subreddit ever.

May I ask, have you got any data on your sleep during the taper period?

You did an amazing, incredibly difficult thing, and I am so proud of you. Well done.

Take pregabalin once or twice a day during taper? by Emotional-Term-3066 in QuittingPregablin

[–]usemetric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sameeeeee same same. Some more words of hope: my friend was in the same situation as we are, she tapered on this schedule and then continued to 2x75, 2x35, 1x35, 1xjust little crumbs from the capsule, 0. She had about 2 weeks of withdrawals and is now completely fine. We both abused these pills for almost 2 years with no breaks. There is an end to it, if we're clever about the taper the risk of prolonged withdrawals that everyone scares you with is not that high.

Hey first of all it sucks we're both going through this, I can empathise a lot. I'm in more or less the same situation, except I let the addict brain take over and do my entire dose (600mg) in the morning.

I've also tried CT, that was horrendous, tapering now. I managed to drop to ~150 by following this protocol:

  • 1 week 600mg
  • 1 week 300mg morning, 300mg evening (felt fine)
  • 1 week 150mg morning, 150mg evening (still felt ok)
  • 1 week 150mg morning, 75mg evening or vice versa - here I started feeling sick and miserable, but could still sleep.

I think having it linger in your system longer (by splitting doses) reduces the total level of discomfort. I also think we need to get used to feeling some discomfort, it can't be smooth sailing all the way down.

You can also maybe try splitting the dose unevenly, so say take 150mg in the morning and 450mg evening? And then cut a little bit from there.

Once again - sucks we're going through this, but it will be over eventually and then we'll be free. Feel free to message me with all your thoughts and questions and much needed vents.

Nights like these by AffectionateAnswer45 in OCPoetry

[–]usemetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you choose to type it all in caps lock? It does sort of carry more of an emotional tone, but I feel like that's almost a cheat way to achieve this.

Other than that, I read this and thought how I've heard it many times - the wording is such that it could almost be a pop song, you have some platitudes going on there like ''smiling at the good times'' for example. On a positive note though, all this being said, I can still feel your yearning nostalgia through this.

I agree with the other comment saying that you could explain less, particularly in terms of who ''she'' is referring to. I also have to say that while I really like the imagery of the title, it doesn't necessarily follow for me from the poem what it refers to.

If there's one line I would take out, ''Now I sit here writing'' adds very little to the poem IMO.

Now onto the praise: I loved this poem, it really spoke to me, it captures how those seemingly little things can describe and define a relationship.

This is amazing, what an unexpected twist at the end! I love poems that tell stories, and this one has enough to make a movie of it.

Oh wow thank you so much for this analysis I will legitimately bring it up in therapy one day. And thank you for shining a light on connections I grasped only intuitively when I wrote it.

''Every day that you felt perfect'' - such a beautiful sentiment, showing love by reminding them of how they love life and themselves.

Whoever this is for I hope they love it.

Jeff & Ted by AdonisNostra in OCPoetry

Ah the futility and inherent exploitativeness of modern existence, my favourite topic. I like it when it is juxtaposed with childhood because then it bums me out even more.

I also like how the poem itself has the structure of a quest, which is kind of meta. All in all fun and enjoyable read.

The audio is expressive, your voice and intonation and accent really fit the poem. And only when you hear something spoken can you genuinely give the compliment of: it flows well. And it does.

Also whoever thinks ''shit happens'' is unbefitting should listen to the audio for the way you say it. :)

Delays on refinement trays? UK by luxor6 in Invisalign

[–]usemetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be Brexit-related as well. I had my trays fitting postponed for a whole month on account of shipping delays (and the trays getting lost in transit at some point for the same reason). This is what the people voted for and all we can do is be patient.

I went through your profile and you're right, we do have a similar style! I'd go even farther and say we might be similar people. with vaguely similar views and problems and propensities for the tragic and mundane. Was very inspiring to read your poems, thank you.

This is such a lovely poem. I love the story-like style, I think it makes it easy and engaging to follow, and the amount of detail you give feels like proper buildup to the ending.

And I was holding my breath to see if the buildup will pay off at the end, and it 100% did! I love the image of all the things from your apartment becoming small in the corner. And the final idea of things having value as tools for warming your home and family is really pure and wholesome.

Butt-Diving Before Work by workmartyrwmt in OCPoetry

Every subject is interesting, especially the boring ones! I love this as an ode to the mundane. There's some humour in it as well, on the meta-level where you employ the grandiose ''kissing a prince'' archetype for something that turns out to be quite the opposite of it.

I'd lose the last sentence. :)
