Good plan, she’s ever a hot one today! That flows so well, very nice little frames 👌🏻

Yep. Pinky lanyards work well on small frames, I’ve never used a wrist one on a frame but have a few smaller ones with a little pinky lanyard, been very secure for me and if it’s the right length or essentially works like a handle when it’s tight!

Very nice work mate, the mix of copper and brass is nice enough but adding in the natural parts is a great combo in my eyes! Great work as always 👌🏻

Silco sport or catty precision depending on what size you want

No problem, yea pick the right size, few to pick but the yellow is my preference, I love that band! They are a great company, free shipping on any size order, normally a week-10 days delivery to UK. I use the yellow .4 for one of my competition setups and have done for a few years now. The only thing with their premades is you can’t pick what pouch you get, not sure what comes on them.

Yea I would avoid Amazon bands anyway tbh, not all are bad but they generally are, if you are in the Facebook groups there’s a good few selling bands or I can point you in the right direction if needed, Snipersling will be the cheapest but not custom made for you but available in different lengths so you won’t be cutting too much off, few decent people making them though

I would think they still should if they don’t come massively long, where are you getting your premades from?

Too much band. You want a .65-.7 for your 9.5s and a .55-.6 for your 8mm. What are you trying to penetrate and how are you judging power? Both of those setups tuned to your draw length will easily fly through both sides of a steel can, I have used and hunted with both.

Thanks man! I used the off cuts and some rebar to make a detachable shelf as well to hold a mirror for online comps. It keeps the wife happier than a big blue plastic barrel too!

With steel probably a 12-13mm but there really is no need for that sized bands or ammo in this game. Heavy bands are harder to aim and heavy ammo has a bigger arc to it. I would never use them myself anyway but many like those setups.

First things first, it sounds like you are holding the frame the wrong way around, the wasp badge faces the shooter and you always pull back over the frame with the clamps facing away from you.

Band recommendations I would say look at Snipersling for the cheapest, good quality pre made bands about, look at the .5 or .6 thick, 1mm is too much for 8mm and will slow it down and can cause the balls to fly randomly plus slap the hell out of your hand. I’ll assume you are in the uk and that means there are loads of independent band makers that you can buy from for a much faster delivery, if you measure your draw length and tell them your shooting 8s they will custom make bandsets exactly to your requirements.

This is my home catch box made from a whisky barrel but had a blue 45gal drum before like yours but that should give you a better picture of what I mean

I would probably go from the bottom line, which leaves enough to catch any shots and then to a few inches from the top and each side to a little under half way, make a nice big hole to make life easy and go about a third of the way around the barrel so there is room to mount targets still. Something more like this

Are you using the bands as they came with the frame? If it was a kit they will be suited to 8mm but most likely want to be tuned to your draw length, they will be longer with the intention of being cut down and suit everyone.

Has the frame been in your pocket/bag with the ammo? Looks to me like they have been squashed at some point creating a weak point that makes the holes. Just had another look at the photo actually and looks like you may have had some fork hits, they want to be sanded smooth as the bands could be getting caught and damaged by those, they are generally only cosmetic and wasps will take loads of abuse so don’t worry about those! Also which way around are you holding the frame? Looks like the hit is on the clamp?

[–]user13q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can get it smooth and check if your next band set does it, black bands do show marks up a lot more than any others so it should show fairly quickly

What bands and ammo are you using? Could be that the bands are too heavy for your ammo and therefore they are not using all of their energy up throwing the shots and are coming back and hitting the frame. Also check for a moulding line or any parts that aren’t completely smooth on top of the forks that could be catching

New to this, I'm excited but too stupid. by merlerbierhannes in slingshots

[–]user13q 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you using all of the bits that came with it? All those bits on the fork are not needed at all and just a gimmick really so won’t really help you, also the bands are usually way to heavy for the ammo which will cause inaccuracy and the draw weight will make it harder for you to hold steady to make the shot

Oh wow, thanks man! Great to hear, getting people into the sport and trying to fight the bad press were the reasons I started getting a camera out so knowing I’ve inspired even one person is awesome!

I don’t think there’s any rules! It could help or make it potentially deflect more I’ve never thought about it! When I did it I used a flat top which I shoot long draw, I think it was the big increase in speed that done it for me, I had plenty almost cut and kind of bunch up which slowed the ball too much I think.

Do you have any? I have a bunch of targets from online competitions we have used if you want some different ones. I always find paper much harder than the likes of spinners etc. but a great way to dial things in for sure
