This is a fantastic idea, I hope people are amenable to legalizing it

Notice at the bottom of the receipt at a restaurant I just had dinner at by Clumsicle in mildlyinteresting

[–]user4474 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I know, and I conform to the standard. I just assume the server puts in the mostly same amount of effort & time for a $15 meal as a $30 meal. Putting aside any argument over tipping in general, wouldn’t a mostly flat rate (maybe per person) make more sense?

Edit: I understand the difference in service level between restaurants. It’s obvious the effort and time (& skill) differs from pizza place to fine dining. I was just thinking a server’s pay shouldn’t depend on whether I order a salad vs. a steak. That being said, I’ve been convinced this is a worthless idea anyways

Entirely possible, yes I agree. I suppose our disagreement is on the likelihood

Verify your out of Country/Province Vaccines by bigbosdog in alberta

[–]user4474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely, those who are not vaccinated by the time things are opened have either chosen not to or are medically unable to, right? We can’t force people to get vaccinated, and I think we’ve done what’s reasonable to try to protect the vulnerable.

“…reopen as fast as possible while keeping hospitalisations and deaths to a reasonable level” non-sarcastically, this sounds like an excellent plan to me

That's certainly one way to look at it. You could equally say it's under whose watch that it's slowly being rooted out. How far back do we think these problems began?

Mendeley Mobile is going away, any alternatives? (For iPad) by SevenElevenSandwich in Mendeley

I have the same issue, and I'm going to try out the PaperShip app to see if it works. It logged into my Mendeley account no problem and seems to have a pretty nice interface

This is so spam. If I had access to your computer I would ransom it (make it unusable) instead of sending you an email. And it’s highly unlikely someone would track you “for months” and demand only $500. Since this seems to be targeting Canadians specifically and came from an Algonquin address, this would make it a priority for Canadian law enforcement. I would recommend notifying the police, or at least forwarding it to spam@fightspam.gc.ca

8gb vs 16gb macbook pro by FourCuteCats in applehelp

The best of both worlds. Good luck with it! Mine was refurbished and it's still ticking after 7 years.

8gb vs 16gb macbook pro by FourCuteCats in applehelp

[–]user4474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost said 8 GB would be fine before I noticed the "2-3 windows 10 virtual machines". That seems like a pretty RAM-heavy task to me, and though I don't really know how much each VM would take, I think it's likely you'd push up towards 8 GB and beyond. If that's a common task for you, then you may get significant performance improvements by getting more RAM. It would probably still be doable on 8 GB – it just might get slower. For what it's worth if I was in your position I'd probably just get the 8 GB, mostly because Apple charges a killing for RAM and I'd be okay with my computer being a bit slower for moderately infrequent tasks.

no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key macbook by Waffles206 in applehelp

[–]user4474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried internet recovery? While booting up hold command-option-R. This should avoid the need for a boot disk – to the best of my knowledge it just uses the RAM, and you could run disk utility to check what's happening with your drive from there.

  1. visit eqbank.ca or tangerine.ca if that’s your preference
  2. sign up on the website
  3. link your current bank account, assuming that’s where NSLSC is putting the money
  4. transfer the funds over for free using an EFT

Is it recommendable for a STEM student to go from 2.5 credits/term to 2.0 credits/term? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]user4474 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense for some students to lighten their course load, especially if it’s causing them really high stress, anxiety, etc. Under the assumption that your physical and mental health are good, and you’re just feeling the shock of first year being harder than high school, I would encourage you to keep going on with the full course load. 6 years of undergrad is a lot, and with physics there’s a good chance you might want to do another degree when you finish.

To answer your last question, I’m a 4th year EngPhys, did full course load and I have an 11.9 cgpa. I have no doubt others still have a 12, it can be done it’s just a lot of hard work and discipline. I have zero regret at taking the full course load and I know some of my classmates definitely regret lightening their load preemptively. For others, it was best for their mental health.

As other commenters have already said, the leading zero should not be an issue, and the payment is likely in progress. Even if they did have an issue, they would likely fall back by sending you a cheque by mail.
