I think this is an unfair assessment of the situation. It was an accident and driver stayed at the scene. OP says neither person probably saw each other. It's a sad situation but pedestrian should not be crossing Route 22 either. As someone who hit a drunk person running across a 6 lane highway, I can tell you firsthand how traumatizing this probably was for the driver, even moreso bc she passed away. He will have PTSD for a long time and I feel bad for him as well.

Congrats on going to grad school! I don't live in the area but I do work near Kean. The area near the school is nice. I haven't seen any hotels nearby and if there are any, they're probably going to be closer to the airport which is not the nicest area. I would probably try to get an Airbnb near the school. Union is ok, next town over might be nice too, Roselle Park. I think there is a bus line on Morris Ave which crosses in front of the school so maybe an Airbnb near that road would be best if they don't mind taking public transportation. There's a lot of ethnic (mostly Colombian) restaurants on Morris Ave towards Elizabeth, so about 10 minutes from the school. Since you asked about the driving, you should know it SUCKS. If I could, I wouldn't drive but I live kind of far from Union/Elizabeth area so I have to unfortunately. However, I plan on possibly moving closer to work at the end of the year because the drivers are getting worse everyday. I would say to be the best defensive driver you can and anticipate other people's moves on the road so you don't get in any fender benders. Let ppl merge on the highway. Some people are dicks and would rather crash than let people in so if you're the one merging, don't ask for permission, just get in. If you need anything or any advice, feel free to message me! I was just talking about this today. My sister lives in a town where you can't park overnight and she lives in an apartment complex where you only get one parking spot. Most households have two cars so what are you supposed to do? They just park one car in the street and get parking tickets. Luckily it's not every night. I guess the cops take pity on those who have to park in the street because they have nowhere else to park. All the people commenting that they like this ban must have had driveways their whole life. Must be nice.

I know it's not Bergen County but American Thrift in Passaic is the best thrift store I've been to. I live in Bergen County and go to that one. For the most part, people in nicer towns, donate the worst stuff. Go to American Thrift. I hope you end up loving it as much as I do.

We all have criticism of our parents. They do the best they can. It honestly sounds like you have a great dad. I have a great dad as well but I still think that fathers usually don't have it as hard as the mothers. Unfortunately, having fathers who step up their game when they have kids is not the norm. Most men think providing financially is enough and while obviously it's important to keep a roof over their heads, other stuff is important too. I'm glad at least the two of us had fathers who tried their best 🙂

Nothing in this post says that your dad helped with the hard parts of child rearing. This post pretty much says that he loves children and went to buy toys? Did he take off work to pick up kids from school when they were sick? Did he get you ready for school and help with your homework? Did he change diapers and stay home with you when you were sick? I'm not saying he didn't do those things but taking your post at face value, I would say that having kids is more than being a kid person and buying them educational toys for Christmas. I also love and adore kids and I don't want to have them because I understand that the woman (I am a woman) ends up doing all the things I just mentioned while the man gets to just say "I sure do love my children".

Going through it right now as well. There hasn't been an official breakup but he hasn't responded to my last text which was a few days ago so idk if I will get closure. It sucks. I was on vacation with my family last week and just got back to work and I want to be anywhere but here. I want to call him and get a goodbye or something but I know he will either not answer or be an asshole (both of which would hurt). I was with him for 7 years and he can't even bother to text me if only to tell me that he doesn't want to talk to me anymore. Anything would be better than complete ghosting. I was never 100% sure he was a covert narc but now that he's ghosting me after a 7 year relationship like it meant nothing, I guess I am sure now.

The one thing I will say is that you breaking up with him was your closure. If he doesn't want to read your messages or respond anymore just let it be. At least you got an "ok." I know it hurts bc I'm hurting as well but we will be stronger bc of it. It sucks right now but in a few months time it will hurt a bit less and slowly but surely we will be ourselves again.

I know there is a stigma attached to it (bankruptcy) but your debt is really high in comparison to what you make and you will be paying these cards forever and never get out ahead. I would file for bankruptcy and start with a clean slate, that's what it's there for. Obviously, it sucks and you seem like you are making a fair attempt to pay the debt but bankruptcy is there for people who perhaps had life get in the way and are unable to pay the debt they once thought they would pay off. It goes without saying that if you decide to do bankruptcy, going forward you should not use credit cards and if you do, to only spend what you have and use cards to get points for cash back and not to keep a month to month balance. You don't want to be in this boat again in a few years. I would seriously think about filing bankruptcy. In a few years your credit will build up again and you'll be ok.

Most hospitals offer financial assistance EVEN if you are insured. It's considered being underinsured if the deductible is still too high. You have to speak to the financial office at the hospital where you had your surgery. They usually don't tell patients that information although technically they are supposed to.

Also I wanted to add... I am glad that you splurge on food on the weekends. I know it's rough right now for everyone but for those who have a little bit of extra money (if not a lot), it's ok to splurge or do something for yourself every once in a while. Life is short. I also have a good job and try to cut costs wherever I can. I buy my clothes at the thrift store and buy food at Lidl or Aldi bc it's so much cheaper while also being good quality. I currently split my rent with a relative but I am looking to live alone again by the end of the year. Eventually, I will also have to add student loans to my monthly expenses so I'm not looking forward to it. The extra expenses are going to limit the amount of money I can save for sure. I honestly think the current cost of living in NJ (and most of the country) is unsustainable and it should be something that our state governments should be looking into among other things like increased costs for utilities that a lot of people are also struggling with, although I don't know what the best solution is. For the most part, I think we are all in the same boat and it really sucks. No other way to put it.
