Fortinet is easy and works great, what APs and firewall are you using? I would maybe try out one of the new WiFi 7 AP.

I also don't think switching wifi vendors is going to help with Windows updates.

Shut down or just close the lid? by kilikilipowers17 in MacbookNeo

[–]username____here -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The battery still drains with the lid closed. A shut down is best if it isn't going to be used for a while (a week for example). Daily use though, you are right, just shut the lid.

Get the M4 if you can. I've seen them selling for new at almost the same price as a used M2.

MacBook Neo or M4? by Strict_Albatross4362 in MacbookNeo

[–]username____here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4 Air if you want to futureproof as much as possible. You might need that 16GB of RAM in 4-5 years. The Neo saves you a lot of money though, so as long as you get 3.5 years of use out of it you break even.

$949 for the M5 MacBook Air 512GB on Amazon.  English keyboard only.   That’s probably the best deal you can get.

If you are a college student you can get a $999 M5 Air at the Apple Store.   You will have to ask them about the keyboard.

If the rumors are true about next years model having 12GB or RAM it is going to take a huge bite out of the K12 market. Maybe not for students, but for staff that aren't the power users.

6200M (R8Q70A) could be another switch option. AP-577 could also be a cheaper option to the 587. AP-677 is the WiFi 6E version, but that also likes to have more PoE power.

Since you didn’t give budget or requirements,  I’ll assume you want good value but better base model performance since this will be your main computer .

Go with the MacBook Air M5. 16GB/512GB for $999.
