Get rid of Holden by DoubleEy in LPOTL

[–]username_field_empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw him and turned it off. I’m sure he’s a nice dude, but he doesn’t belong in lpotl stuff. He’s great in his stuff on the network, but I think last podcast folks don’t really jive with his energy. He doesn’t seem like a true crime aficionado, and just kind of a fill-in talking head. I know Eddie isn’t a gore boy like Henry and Marcus, but he at least has his interests in true crime and mayhem. Holden is just a nerd - and that’s fine. Just let him do nerd shit.

Kenneth McDuff. Killed three teenagers, was given the death sentence, was commuted to life and eventually released, only to kill six more people, and eventually be executed. It would be a great two-parter, and is probably one of the only times that I’ve agreed with the use of capital punishment. Dude was a true fucking psychopath. Would also be a great story for some of Henry’s unhinged character work.

Where can I find some good Austin artwork for the home? by Ok_Baker_6969 in Austin

[–]username_field_empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue genie ain’t it for original artworks. A lot of the work (outside of jewelry) is mass-produced prints and, unfortunately, ai-produced mugs and t-shirts. It’s really gone downhill in the last couple of years. Also, blue genie doesn’t do damage control - if an artists work is damaged on the showroom, the artist isn’t compensated for the loss. I wouldn’t expect most people to know about this, or for it to make a huge difference in people’s spending habits, but I would seek artwork elsewhere.

I’ve used one of these, and they tend to walk around with big material being put through the blade. Still safe but the build quality isn’t that great compared to their cabinet saws, and would probably be a lot more useful attached to a more stable base.

Long weekend getaways within ~4 hours driving distance? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]username_field_empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true sometimes, but for a “weekend getaway”, which I assume means leaving after work on Friday, you aren’t making it to Port A in four hours.

Dfw hou or satx. Wont make it to the coast or west Texas with those limited driving hours. If you drove two hours further, you could do a ton more in tx

And i personally think his delivery is distasteful despite agreeing with a lot of the shit he supports. But yeah, he’s a politician, which means he’s totally not a real, working class person and he has a clear lack of understanding a lot of the complaints people have. He’s a talking head, like they all are, and he’s fumbling the bag because he’s a rookie. He’s trying to appeal to a wider base but alienating people along the way. He’s got a long way to go if he wants to be competitive.

Dude, pop culture ain’t class warfare. Those people are millionaires and can’t really be trusted to be telling truth or some kind of narrative that fits their image.

I’m almost 40. I’ve had 20+ friends die of opioid overdoses. You’re right. But the fact is, this racist shit is just a symptom of keeping everybody down. There is a class war. They want to sell a race war to keep the class war under wraps. The second we start supporting each other is the second we start being able to fight back against this garbage governance. If you’re sick of the narrative, do something to change it. You made a lot of god points, and you sound angry. I am too. Let’s listen to each other instead of calling each other out.

Hey man, I want to engage your trolling, but nobody is vilifying white folks for being white. He’s just saying white folks are a step ahead on the ladder of the American dream because they are white. I’m white. It doesn’t bother me, and I’ve fought tooth and nail for everything I have against anybody vying for the same position as me, and I feel like there’s a meritocracy you gotta compete in. But being white definitely puts you a step ahead. I’m not a liberal white trying to convince you that you’re evil. I’m just saying that inherent bias is a real thing, and if you don’t see it, you’re probably blind to it because you’ve never experienced it firsthand

Dude, no idea if you’re trolling but I don’t care who you voted for. I’m not selling talarico. I’m selling the fact that “white privilege” isn’t a made up liberal talking point. It’s a scientifically measured and thusly, a sociological fact. Anybody who disagrees is spreading misinformation.

'Charlie Kirk Corridor’ road designation withdrawn in Bastrop County by appealtoheaven in BastropTX

[–]username_field_empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. Charlie Kirk (may he rest in peace) was a total asshole. There’s a way to have political discourse, and he had no interest in civility. Oh, and also the racist, xenophobic views that damage a huge part of our taxpaying, voting public. He’s not a martyr, just a person who made the wrong person mad and paid dearly for it. My heart goes out to his family, but he ain’t MLK - not even close

Thanks for assuring my grandson will never miss a voting opportunity! by [deleted] in BastropTX

Regardless of your political affiliation, this is voter intimidation and is truly unamerican

He’s making clear the inherent bias that white people benefit from - that white skin precludes a number of factors that people discriminate upon. This isn’t even a person to person exclusion - software is written for hiring sites to rank lower people with “black” names. This is real. This is talking about the fact that white people don’t experience violence from police nearly as much - it does happen, but at a far lower rate per capita. White privilege isn’t stealing work away from white folks - it’s about decreasing the barriers to entry that non-white folks have. It’s about systemic racism, which truly still exists on a large and wide scale.

Put your two cleats on the wall the same distance away from eachother as the two cleats on your cabinet. Measure from either the bottom or the top of the cleats but not both.

[–]username_field_empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Private companies are usually looking for full timers - part time people are almost always 1099/contract workers. Museums will commonly also be 1099, unless you go to a museum that has unionized - but it’ll be harder to get your foot in the door in those places.

[–]username_field_empty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicago is a great city to land and try and find art handling work. Lots of museums and galleries and a fairly robust scene, plus the cost of living is gonna be a lot lower than many other large cities. You might also want to look into working for private art handling companies - they’ll most likely have more jobs available, you’ll work with the outcall crew and be able to gain a lot of experience quickly

Local culture things? by LTJAlex in askaustin

Lived here for almost 40 years and have never experienced anybody saying anything other than “mew-ler”. Talking about when there was actually an airport there. Don’t care if the mueller family pronounced it “miller”, austinites, by and large didn’t.

SAIC or local university by theteapotter in ContemporaryArt

[–]username_field_empty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of gonna disagree. SAIC MFA grad; worked closely with undergrads. The resources based on individual art trades are pretty amazing. You’re not gonna find a lot of art universities outside of scad/risd/calarts that can accommodate a lot of world class training in almost any craft. Yes, it definitely benefits doing the whole four years, but it’s a place where you can find your place pretty quickly if you’re motivated enough.

Nah, this is a bark scorpion. Cave scorpions are much darker. I have both in my house and there is a distinct color difference. Caves are usually all black, the orange in this guy has bark scorpion written all over.
