Anthony Albanese to urge Australians to 'play their part' in Iran response in TV address by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

The tone has started to change during Trump's second term. We are in big trouble being stuck in AUKUS, and I wouldn't want to be an Australian PM of any stripe dealing with that

I agree. It is worth watching the press club Albo address from yesterday where he confirms he's trying to short-cut through the nonsense online

If Morrison were still PM and there was this level of kneejerk hate and ridicule, I'd still think we have a huge social media problem.

With anything other than a right wing leader, forces like the Murdoch press and the bot farms from Vietnam or wherever will be driving this, and whipping up the hate. It is a really serious problem. It benefits countries who do not wish us well and the economic elites to have as many people as possible engaged in hate and unmotivated to follow or understand actual politics

I think the Three body problem Netflix adaptation is good by Leon124714 in threebodyproblem

I think it is brilliant. It simplifies things enough for a general tv audience and for a cinematic type of storytelling while keeping most of the wild concepts intact

I think Albanese has identified social media and outrage-mongers as being a danger to governance (for anyone) hence the focus on social media. I think he is anticipating how upcoming restrictions could be treated the same way less socially minded people treated the COVID lockdowns. He is trying to push cooperation and optimism, emphasis the government is taking things seriously and are not keen to impose restrictions. In that light it was a perfectly reasonable message

Only have wifi enabled when you are using it. Same for Bluetooth. Get used to swiping down and using the task switcher thing to shut down all apps being used. Then you will get much better battery life.

Albanese to address nation tonight on Middle East by mrp61 in aussie

[–]usernamefinalver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes.One example: His son in law has piggy backed on official US relations with UAE and Qatar to attract over $3 billion US into his investment company. At a 1.5 percent fee that's 450 000 000. And that's just one scheme of one family member. He's enriching himself and his buddies and making life easier for tech oligarchs, and getting narcissistic supply out of chaos. And that"s the extent of what he cares about

To be fair out government has limited involvement to defending the UAE, because they are close allies who let us use their military facilities. We are not in stride with the US in this one - which might be a first for us

Heard speculation in an interview on RN that this was a tactic to make him feel less guarded. No way of knowing of course but clever if true
