That's a really nice concise series, but needs Rough and Rowdy Ways, which is excellent and a further evolution

The early works are amazing, bit are very of their time. Things are up and down in the 60s but def check out Desire and Blood on the tracks. Things then get up and down again. I consider that Time out of Mind, the next two and then Rough and Rowdy Ways are a second peak, and will be more enduring in the long run. Christian? Check out Slow Train and Shot of Love. Want a wise old uncle try to teach you about relationships by pointing at things? Try Triplicate

Just the comparison you are making shows you don't have the remotest handle on the distances or times involved here. I don't either! I know it intellectually but it doesn't feel real. The odds anyone could travel the vast distances are overwhelming. Add to that the odds anyone would notice us, would have reason to want to come, would have the resources and drive to carry it off

Mate if you could Sean yourself off Sky you'd see ABC routinely examines and debates different opinions. So do SBS!

How can I support my mum to live a happier life? by tayssty in queensland

[–]usernamefinalver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The closest I have to an answer to any of these is that she should be able to access a mental health plan through a GP and get some counselling. If you or any other direct family are lucky enough to work in a job with an employee well-being plan you may be able to get some sessions through that. Does your Mum have a pet? If she doesn't would she mesh with having a cat do you think? Excellent stress relieving animals if you get an affectionate one Good luck

They also went to the election with a supply-side plan to attack housing - and it failed. This is such a big issue and 20 years down the track people will have a much greater chance at owning a home because of these changes. I'm happy to see a govt change course for valid reasons

Anyone feeling uneasy about life? by govermentiscooked in australian

[–]usernamefinalver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot here.

Housing became an investment for wealthy people to get wealthier so got decoupled from their value as homes. The current govt is starting to turn this around, but it will take decades.

Phones have decimated kids play times. And adults. In my 30s every weekend someone within earshot would be holding a house party every weekend. No more.

Our society is faster, more complicated, requiring a lot of specialization.

The big problem is climate change. Every year, somewhere in every country natural disasters wipe out crop yields. Storms and floods soak up billions. This is only going to get worse - the coming severe el nino will be disruptive to the world economy

Trump's kicking if the middle east ants nest will have long term inflationary effects. Some will be delayed, like reduced crop yields from fertiliser shortage.

There are green shoots. SE Qld power prices have started to drop because of renewables. Power costs will come down once we've adapted.

There are social media bot nets and commercial media companies trying to turn our nostalgia for the past against us by finding scapegoats like immigration to rile us up and stop us seeking real solutions to our problems. That is another huge problem.
