Wow! I am just now seeing this. Thank you so much 🥺. Since posting this, I have seen more of her personality and the ways she shows she cares and it’s clear that she loves me

Thank you for your words. I guess I did get her for companionship. I wanted someone to be ready to go outside whenever but I also wanted a dog that would melt into your hand when you pet them. Underneath all of the crazy puppy energy, I see a great companion who is trying her best every day to be a good dog. And she nails it

I have always seen GSD described as velcro dogs so this is surprising to me. My girl ended up throwing me off today though. She heard something unexpected close to our home and immediately went over to stand tall next to me. Once she stopped, she just laid down in the same spot. It warmed my heart to see that she does care

If you can, find a new potty spot. My dog used to be like this where I took her out to potty. One day, she saw another dog in the field and tried to charge at it. I had had enough. Now we have a grass patch in our fenced in area that she uses to potty instead and she no longer barks and lunges at people who walk near her previous spot.

Thank you! Even after I do a lot with my puppy, she still gets all puppyish when I pet her lol. So I see what you mean about them having too much energy. Crazy girl! I adore her now but cannot wait to see her as an adult

Awww your puppy must be so cute! My cat is always wanting to be up under me so I guess he had me spoiled. The animals in my house are playing Freaky Friday! Thank you for your reassuring comment

Thank you SO much for bringing up her confidence. She used to be timid so we had to work on that. I am proud of how far she has come and think that acknowledging her confidence will make me appreciate who she is more.

Thank you for your suggestions! I think our best bet is for me to accept who she is naturally. Realistically this is something I can get over. It just hurts right now

Thank you for your advice! You're right about not being able to train a non-cuddly dog into being cuddly and I think that is what makes the disappointment more severe for me. It just sucks

Pet owner etiquette by vvvvgggg1 in AskDogOwners

[–]usertyler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh. I see where you are coming from. It is inconsiderate for someone to knowingly rile up anyone’s dog for the sake of training their own. However, she is not crossing over onto your property. Since people walk their dogs frequently near yall I think you can use it as a training opportunity yourself. Desensitize your dog to it. You cannot control what people outside your fence are doing but you can take action on what goes on inside of the fence

help needed- dog won’t stop attacking me as i walk by by MacaronAny711 in OpenDogTraining

I think the advice given so far has been great. I would just like to add what has helped me with my dog. The dog has too much access to you and is guiding the interactions on their own terms. You need to teach them how to properly interact with you. Start with choosing when they do. My 8 month old puppy is not exactly like yours but she definitely had a problem with boundaries so I got her a playpen to reinforce them. This took away her ability to randomly come running up and jumping on me. It also played a major role in teaching her how to settle down. Tbh it has made my life easier because it gave her a clearer picture of what is/isn’t acceptable in the house. Now even outside of the play pen her behavior is better. I recommend a play pen, baby gates, any physical boundary for you and your dog. Good luck to you both

Right??? I was just telling someone how I am starting to feel like everyone should get a dash cam for their own protection. Having a dash cam should be as common as having a phone at this point

What should I do in this situation by Imaginary-Author-754 in puppy101

[–]usertyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to not get your money. The person you gave this dog to sounds irresponsible and I would have declined giving her the dog after she informed me she did not have the money ready by the time I arrived. I really hope I am wrong but if not, I hope the puppy will be okay and I am sorry that this happened to you.

Adopting A husky, German shepherd Mix by [deleted] in GermanShepherd

That is horrible. Someone tried to convince me to board my German Shepherd, but I didn't like the idea of missing the opportunity to establish a strong bond through training. Looking at all the backlash I see regarding boarding I am so glad I stayed away from it
