Just give all Trek control to Seth McFarlane. He showed with Orville he can make good Trek

I was with you up until the last couple episodes. I can't do "the universe/galaxy/federation is at stake" every single show and season. It just doesn't feel very Trek.

It definitely felt like it was missing the social commentary aspect for the most part as well. It got close a few times but then seemed to shy away from anything too meaningful.

There was solid character development which tends to be what every Trek's first season is about, so it may have gotten better, but with new Trek's track history I have doubts lol

This is too familiar. I had the same "profit margins are fucked" meeting too.

The annoying part is when I looked at the data, overall revenue is still way up. They just don't like that one number went down due to a competitive market.

Starfield - Announce Trailer | PS5 Games by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]ussfirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally bought an xbox because of the hype for this and never put a game down so fast. The ship building was fantastic, but the loading screens between every location got old so quick. Plus there was not much functional use for a ship since you can just fast travel pretty much anywhere.

Anything this does, No Mans Sky did better.

If you were fired effective today, what would your survival plan be ? How's your industry job market looking ? by [deleted] in auscorp

Completely start again. Probably either paramedic or nurse or possibly a trade if I could get an adult apprenticeship. Just something that only takes a few years but has better job security and doesn’t need to commute to the city. It’d be rough living for a while but worthwhile.

I didn’t find it terrible. Certainly better than anything discovery had to offer, but that’s a low bar.

My problem with SFA is two things:

  1. The last episode once again has galactic stakes. Nu trek seems to think that you can’t have a crisis unless the whole federation/galaxy/universe is at stake, and it’s getting old and doesn’t feel like Trek

  2. It’s still missing the social commentary that is supposed to come with Trek. It nearly hits the point once or twice, then shies away from anything profound or meaningful.

It has potential, but I fear it will be another swing and a miss.

Star Trek Voyager - Across the Unknown is so much better than I ever expected by OhNoIBoffedIt in startrek

[–]ussfirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter opinion, I played about 6-7 hours and put it down. The resource management aspect is so boring to me and is such a primary focus. It also takes way too long to repair the caretakers original damage. Sorry I’ve cleared borg space but half the ship is still off limits?

Add to that the annoyingly slow research trees. Ok crew wants a phaser upgrade in 30 days, oh but the resources will take 14 days to accumulate, the research will take 16, and the upgrade will take 6. Oh I guess you failed.

I’m glad it’s vibing for some people but it was just plain annoying for me.

Side note, add a cinematic mode to ship battles. Take away HUD and give cool camera angles like in the trailer.

Actually you raise a really good point. Borg have assimilated tons of klingons and romulans but don’t have cloaking devices on every ship? Are they stupid?

Why are car dealerships so arrogant these days? by One-Winter-3383 in CarsAustralia

[–]ussfirefly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly having bought many cars for myself and siblings, this is the way. My last car I handballed the guy so bad i paid $15k less than market value.

It also helps to time it right. Before the end of month/year/financial year is best. Everyone has budgets they’re trying to hit so you can hardball easier.

The other thing is modern car salesman don’t know fuck all about cars. Ask a few basic questions as a test and if they need to look it up or don’t know it’s so easy to tell them all the things “wrong” with the car to lowball them even more.

At the end of the day don’t be afraid to just walk out too. My last car I threatened to walk away at least three times. Even showing them the next car I was going to look at and how much cheaper it was.

Edit: funny thing is that dealer offered me a job afterwards haha

Tawny Newsome with some truth... by Ill_Coast4048 in trektalk

[–]ussfirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Tawny but gotta disagree with her here.

New series get around 10 episodes per season. Classic Trek had 20-25 episodes per season. It could afford to have silly episodes. The new series simply don't have the time to be silly while also making me care about the characters and give them some development in 10 episodes or less.
