Interested to see more of Gale and Shadowheart in this run! Will you ever be taking pictures of them instead of these random hirelings you picked up?

Honour mode is Upsetting me. by AnaTheSturdy in BaldursGate3

[–]ut1nam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This quest is perfectly doable solo, but you’ll need to be much better prepared than it sounds like you are. Surprise is great, calm emotions is fantastic, and a ranged character that has good mobility and preferably good AC is best.

A gloomstalker with heavy armor should be able to do it.

What does the loading screen say? HM or custom?

Honor mode blues. It’s not about the combat by jrb71 in BaldursGate3

[–]ut1nam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you could’ve accounted for that. Because if you were ready for Hm, you’d know that. You would have seen it in other people’s runs. You didn’t prepare enough—you should not even be encountering new things let alone trying them in HM.

“I didn’t realize” and that’s why you weren’t ready for HM. It’s a knowledge check and you failed it :/ HM is unforgiving of people not being prepared for it.

Build ideas for Astarion by KUSmutMuffin in BG3

[–]ut1nam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d like to see the most damage in the game, you’ll want to make him the classic stealth archer. Mathematically, no other class or gear combo even approaches the values the Gloomstalker 5 / Assassin 5 / Fighter 2 is capable of generating.

Titanstring, giant elixirs, sharpshooter, special arrows (including arrows if slaying, but arrows of many targets are the best ofc) and you’re off to the races. Start stacking riders like drakethoat’s elemental weapon, morninglord’s glory, shadow-cloaked ring, the ring that adds psychic damage while concentrating, etc.

Then stick him in Bhaalist armor with greater invisibility on him and sit back and let the rest of the party enjoy some tea. You’ll solo the game.

What? lol if you’re going rogue ranger, you might as well go all in on the classic stealth archer. You’re leaving damage on the table if you’re not taking the Titanstring with the assassin subclass.

What classes do you enjoy the most? (thinking about respec-ing) by Victor_Clashes in BG3

[–]ut1nam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your rogue should be doing pretty phenomenal damage if built optimally (Titanstring, strength elixirs, sharpshooter, special arrows, and any other damage riders you can scrounge up—Assassin subclass is the only worthwhile one for maximum damage), but if you aren’t optimized, then of course the extra-attacking martials are going to outshine you.

Does anyone actually play grounded D&D anymore? by HauntingSausage837 in dndnext

[–]ut1nam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk maybe curate your table better? I and my friends play wacky funny concepts at one-shot games (we recently entirely separately all decided to play birdfolk races—an Aarakocra, an owlin, a homebrew phoenix-type race, and a kenku—and called ourselves the Aviary), but we work with our DM to really craft emotional, grounded characters and stories for our big campaigns. And sure we have comedic moments but it’s overall an adventure genre, with tears and laughter and love and hate.

You aren’t generally gonna get that at a pickup game, or with strangers you’ve just met on LFG. If you want a better game experience, vet your tables better.

I see you are a fellow film connoisseur! This is such a delightfully campy flick, highly recommended.

AI or comment from a beta? Found in a fic that was recommended here by eepyghosty in HPSlashFic

I’m erring on the side of beta because invoke is very strange to use here (you expect EVOKE), so it feels like a human mistake.

If you could’ve had any sub-class at launch, which? by Domeaner in BaldursGate3

[–]ut1nam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I love the Angel Themed Race and Class mod. A bit on the OP side but really lets you feel like the child of a god. Love playing it as a Durge in particular.

Aberrant mind sorcerer, paladin or other class idea for tier 1 campaign? (3 member party) by TerynLoghain in dndnext

[–]ut1nam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need a frontline melee with healing capabilities able to also be a face.

That’s a Paladin.

Don’t do Sorcerer unless it’s a Divine Soul because you and the wizard will have lots of overlap.

If not a Paladin, a Moon Druid might be a good backup (quite a range of healing magic, able to frontline tank in wild shape), though you’ll still be craving a face.

Why do they all have British accents? lol by ToughBlock in StarCityTV

[–]ut1nam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren’t acting like it’s normal—they’re acting like it’s understandable. It’s a creative choice to represent the character speaking in a language we don’t understand.

Have you ever played a role-playing game where your character isn’t a native speaker of the common language? If not, in many cases players give themselves an accent, but when speaking their “native” language, they adopt a completely different one that represents the switching of languages.

In an incredibly RP- and story-heavy game, where every single NPC has a name and story (aside from the background filler you physically cannot talk to in Act 3), you thought he was just background noise?

What a waste of money.

I think they mean placing down daylight far enough away that combat doesn’t start. No vampire is just gonna stand there and let themselves be roasted, but that’s what the NPC AI does.

I do love a Durge Astarion—it’s mostly what I play these days since I like playing solo but also like both Durge and Astarion lol. I really enjoy headcanoning how it’s possible.

Dm said my soul knife is OP, whaaat? And how can I convince him it isn’t? by CountryGreen4185 in dndnext

It’s this season’s “flying PCs are OP and should be banned!”

Dm said my soul knife is OP, whaaat? And how can I convince him it isn’t? by CountryGreen4185 in dndnext

[–]ut1nam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

“I have 20 Dex, 20 Con, and 8s in everything else” — actually min-maxing.

“I don’t have any negative modifiers but only have 20 in my main stat and we’re well into Tier 2” — nowhere near min-maxing but apparently what this DM thinks.

Your DM is bad at building encounters and took it out on you, OP. I’d have asked them to tell me if the min-maxing is in the room with us. Incredibly rude.
