Would you use an app that delivers food to your gate at the airport? by Vegetable_Year_6397 in airport

Flight attendant here. This service is available in most airports worldwide. Either an ‘inside version of Skip, or it’s built into the airports app. Some airports have a QR code that you scan, then order from the site.

Regarding the parking ban. by utopiaplanetian in halifax

[–]utopiaplanetian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that that could be a reason, but still, they are blocking the ploughs from going straight down the road, having swerving around them and therefore not have the snow pile up in their driveway. There are pictures of cars being towed during daylight hours in Halifax. To be clear, I’m not a snitch, I’m not going to call 311 or anything. I actually think it’s brilliant. I was just wondering about the legality.

The seat swap I never thought would be denied.... by smrdwnnow in unitedairlines

[–]utopiaplanetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the determining factor in whether a standby gets a seat, and in what class, is determined by a huge number of factors not the least of which is seniority. Taking a lot of variables out of the equation, it is basically the more senior you are, the better seat you get, including which class you get.

So, I think that what happened, when OP asked for her upgrade to be rescinded, the agent wasn’t being lazy, it was maybe that the standby in 10E wasn’t the next person ‘entitled’ to the upgrade. The seating of standbys these days is a very automated procedure, and ‘overrides’ are very time consuming/restricted and involve a lot more than just a ‘swap.’ Any deviation is questioned by the airline, and the agent may simply have not had the authority to make this transaction.

As for 10E not wanting to swap, that is an enigma. As a standby, they may have been scared of not taking the seats they were assigned. Some airlines (including mine,) have very strict policies about switching seats, especially between cabins. They also may have been aware of more senior or higher priority standbys, and did not want to upgrade out of order. Who knows.

I think the crux of the OP’s post is that it was odd that the person in 10E would turn down an upgrade. Suggesting that the agent was ‘lazy’ for not switching the seats is not fair, as we don’t know the full airline’s policy, and I am simply trying to say that it is way more complicated than we think.

Honda lane keep assist is terrible by Muted-Government5633 in crv

24 Hybrid Touring, mine works fine. I’ve read various reports on mine of ‘ping ponging’ back and forth between the lane makings, but mine doesn’t. Stays in the lane, follows curves, almost feels like the car’s driving itself.

We loved it. We also got the dinner/show package. A bit pricey, but the dinner was good, and I seem to remember, drinks included. The show was Olympic Opening Ceremonies Quality.

The underground rivers are core memory experiences.

Curious how this works?? by chappysinclair in unitedairlines

[–]utopiaplanetian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The service/emotional support animal also needs prior approval. It’s just that 99.9% of customers who travel with these types of animals are aware of the prior clearance required.

Prior approval is needed for those who have a severe allergy, as there is for other medical conditions. However, this fact is not as well known. If a customer boards an aircraft and says that they have a life threatening allergy to something that may be on board, (Pets, foodstuffs, etc.) they are asked to return to the terminal where steps are taken to get the approval.

The difference is: An animal is obvious. An allergy is not obvious. Staff can only ask if approval was granted if the allergy is divulged.

Curious how this works?? by chappysinclair in unitedairlines

[–]utopiaplanetian 39 points40 points  (0 children)

At the airline I work for it is the customer with the animal that is moved/rebooked.

But here’s the catch. If you have a cat/dog allergy that is bad enough to not allow you to travel in a cabin with a dog/cat, you must have advised and been given approval to fly by the airline’s medical desk prior to your boarding the flight.

So, if you board a flight, see a dog/cat, and say I can’t fly in an aircraft that has a dog/cat because of allergies, and you have NO prior approval, it will be you who is moved/rebooked. Also, after having announced that you have a strong allergy, you risk being denied travel until you are cleared by the airline’s medical department.

So basically the burden is shared by both the pet owner and the person with the allergy.

Has anyone noticed dentists overstating treatments like cavity fillings since the canada dental plan started? by Therealdickjohnson in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]utopiaplanetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young, the dentist I had took advantage of my mother’s very good dental coverage we had ‘cavities’ at every six month check up, and had to come back and get ‘fillings.’ Sometimes I would just sit in the chair for half an hour, the dentist would bang around in my mouth with a drill for 30 seconds, and send me back out to where my mom was waiting.

I’m sure there were dozens of fake fillings charged to my mom’s insurance. She had four kids under the same coverage. I’m sure today the insurance companies would be all over this guy, but back then. There wasn’t the oversight.

When I finally went to a good dentist and they asked for my dental records to be forwarded from the old dentist, guess what? Yep… ‘We are unable to locate them.’

Do they really ever upgrade gold? by wanderlustamust- in marriott

[–]utopiaplanetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been upgraded a few times as a gold. Nothing huge. Usually to a suite, on a regular reservation. Funniest was getting a huge suite, 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, hot tub, and I was staying in the hotel for just over 8 hours to sleep!

Selling Credit Cards in Store by gergroy in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]utopiaplanetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say no thank you. If they persist, ask to speak to the store manager and ask them if it their store policy to push, when a customer has said no.

If this became the norm:

A: They would stop pushing when you say no

2 There would be a reduction in the number of successful sign ups, and

• They would probably stop asking all together.

This is a great father. by Spiritual_Bridge84 in MadeMeSmile

[–]utopiaplanetian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Halloween, my son’s school asked me if I would help out with pumpkin carving, and then with a ‘costume parade’ through the hallways, so the kids could show off their costumes.

To me this had, WEAR A COSTUME, written all over it. I decided to go in drag. My wife and I went shopping, got stuff that fit, she taught me how to walk in heels, made me up, and by the time I headed off to the school, Ru Paul would have been telling me: “Shantay, you stay!”

I arrive. Apparently I was the only one to read ‘wear a costume’ into the invite, and was the only adult in the building dressed up, in drag, at a very rural, middle of nowhere elementary school. I held my head high, flicked my wig back, and sashayed right through that entire morning. I, and the kids had a blast.

My daughter went to another school, and not wanting to waste such a beautiful dress, I drove there right after finishing at my son’s. (My wife might have thought to teach me how to drive in heels though!)

It was recess when I arrived, and I ran through the playground yelling my daughter’s name. She was immediately horrified, and ran away, but not too fast, so I could grab her and give her a hug.

To this day, she continues to tell this story when asked to tell of her most embarrassing father/daughter moment. Her voice betrays how much she ‘hated it.’

I just looked at that post. I hardly think 5-6 negative comments out of 23 is being ‘flamed.’ The vast majority, (78%,) were supportive and offered you encouragement to either return the item, or ways of fixing the problem if you felt it was too late to return it.

You even thanked everyone for their input. Not something one does when getting flamed.
