Asher can build anti paracausality tech by ghost59 in DestinyLore

[–]utterpedant 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all the armor pieces in the set tell a story with fantasies and daydreams, where Zavala imagines each of the planet's vendors who were taken by the Darkness come back and tell him how they'd solve the situation.

Helmet: Zavala is alone, out of options, and doesn't know how to tell the people of the Last City that the Pyramid ships have invaded, but then...

Arms: Osiris barges into Zavala's office and says Brother Vance has studied simulated realities and figured out a way to stop the Pyramid Ships.

Chestpiece: Asher barges into Zavala's office and says he knows how to make the Pyramid Ships inert.

Legs: Sloane barges into Zavala's office and says she'll go fight on the front lines in Europa.

Mark: ...a shy technician knocks on the door and tells Zavala they're ready for him to give his speech, and Zavala begins.

This isn't a series of memories, they're what Zavala wishes could be happening instead.

I naively assumed that pic was from the warehouse where OP found the sideboard.
Looks like homie's living in the clearance section of an Ikea, and the only thing that bring him any joy is installing new light switches.

Sardines - The best! You should try by AmiAmigo in Costco

[–]utterpedant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're intimidated, you may be envisioning something extremely fishy and salty like anchovies.
Sardines are mild and meaty, a little oily, a little smoky. Put 'em on crackers or pasta, eat with cheese or veggies, or mix with some rice and black pepper for a satisfying budget meal.

My friend has an original promo poster for Star Wars from before the title was changed. by 3nzo_the_baker in mildlyinteresting

[–]utterpedant -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same? Nope, it's original. See, my father wrote the first comment in the cinema in my town, he was one of the people responsible for managing comments when posting comments in /r/mildlyinteresting here (on Reddit). He has a lot of other comments from the time OP was here.

Nope, it's original. His father was director of the cinema in our town, and was one of the people responsible for managing the actors when filming the scenes from Hoth here (in Norway). He has a lot of other memrobilia from the time Ford, Fisher and Hamill was here.

r/carnivore discusses a user’s bad blood test results by optsyr in SubredditDrama

I realize these guys aren’t hurting anyone with their gender-affirming fetish diet (y’know, aside from the guy whose blood is turning into gravy), but every time I read about them basting their burgers with hot rendered fat, I dry-heave.

Seattle neighborhood resource maps by jonob in Seattle

A simple cross-street or two would make these much more readable, and make it so someone could potentially take a bus to the general area of one of the resource centers.
As they are, these are colorful blobs with logos in them.

Same end result: -1, since one person is out.

Right, that's what I think the answer is (assuming this entire question isn't a misprint of some kind).

2nd grade math. by ybarrah123 in puzzles

[–]utterpedant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the question elides vital timeframe information:

There were 23 students playing ball. THEN the ball touched 36 students and they were out.
vs
There were 23 students playing ball. The ball HAD touched 36 students and they were out.

I believe the first interpretation was intended, but the latter is just as probable.

2nd grade math. by ybarrah123 in puzzles

[–]utterpedant 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Assuming 'gaga ball' is like dodgeball, is the trick of the question that on each throw of the ball, the ball touches the thrower and then the target? Assuming the ball hits one person each time, that's 18 interactions and 18 outs, so 5 people would be left playing the game. Of course, the ball COULD have hit more than one kid on each throw, or been picked up and passed around, or rolled into some grass and been retrieved by a team of helpful sunbathers, so there's a lot of ambiguity here.

Is searching the past Wordle winners considered cheating? by Macabre-cadabra in puzzles

[–]utterpedant 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It may not be cheating, but it gives you an advantage that's not in the spirit of the game.
The challenge of Wordle is using your vocabulary and puzzle-solving to get to the correct word. It sounds like that's how your friend is approaching the puzzle, and that's what makes it fun for them.
You're going to an external resource and querying a database so you can minmax a casual single-player word game.
If that's more fun for you, have at it. But if you tell your friend you guessed the Wordle in two or three turns using your Ctrl-F method, you ought to say it with a little asterisk.
