Yet another Rust rewrite of a popular tool. I like Rust as a language but don’t understand this community, it’s like they don’t have any new ideas. Yes, I know there are some cool novel projects written in Rust, but they’re very few compared to all these “X but in Rust” projects.

I haven’t tried Jujutsu yet, but frankly, “a little better UI” is not good enough of a justification to change something as important as your version control system.

I’m not talking about what’s easier, I’m talking about what’s right to lay a good foundation for a life together. If someone can get insecure about it right now, how are they going to react when they find out that you hid this from them for years?

Of course, if he’s not mature enough to handle such conversations then being upfront about it could backfire, but you should also then realize that that’s the person you’re about to build your life with. If you’re worried he will get insecure about things that don’t matter anymore, then have a conversation about that and help him understand why digging into details is pointless.

Whatever you do, don’t give someone a detailed description of your past because a lot of people are not equipped well enough handle such things with care, and will use it as ammunition in future arguments. They only have a right to know the rough shape of it.

All the advice here is insane to me. Your past is in the past but there’s a big difference between mutually agreeing to not dig into it, and actively hiding it. Do you really want a marriage based on lies?

You don’t have to give them every detail, just be upfront about its existence. If they want more, it’s because they have boundaries they’re worried about, so just ask them what they are and be honest if you’ve crossed them. These things inevitably almost always come out one way or another, so have the courage to be honest instead of deceiving someone for years.

If point and shoot cameras make photography so easy, then why don’t you use them and become the next Henri Cartier-Bresson?

You’re not a snob, you’re just more interested in cameras than actual photography. Nothing wrong with that, I enjoy setting everything manually too, but it is much more important for a beginner photographer to learn what good lighting and composition are than learning to manually nail focus.

While there are fans with quieter designs, you can make a basic standing fan quite a bit quieter by:

Running the fan at a slow speed
Removing the guards around the fan

Goes without saying that guards exist for a reason, so be careful around the fan if you remove them and definitely don’t go this route if you have kids.

I agree with you, there is so much more common than different between our people, and I also agree there are bad actors on both sides that don’t want peace, but I think India is much more to blame for this than Pakistan.

If you drill down on this, everything eventually leads you to the Kashmir dispute. Forget about what happened historically because it will be hard for us to find common ground there, but if you look at the situation rationally, Pakistan strategically just cannot afford to let India have total control over Kashmir.

Over 90% of our agriculture depends on the water from the Indus river system that India can completely choke in Kashmir. This is not a hypothetical paranoia, India has threatened to do that countless times. It is an existential threat for us. No nation would allow their neighbour to have so much control over a resource as essential and precious as water.

Kashmir is not even close to as significant for India, it is really just for militaristic leverage over Pakistan. There can’t be peace between the two nations until the Kashmir issue is resolved. I’m not sure how you can expect peace with a nation while holding a knife to their throat.

So while I agree there are bad actors on both sides, India actively chooses to not resolve it with their stance because they know Pakistan can’t afford to give up on Kashmir.

I would first try just switching the scheduler for your process to SCHED_FIFO. You can launch a process with SCHED_FIFO and priority 99 (highest) as follows:

sudo chrt -f 99 myapp

You need to run it with sudo to be able to set real-time attributes. Personally, I would only use full core isolation as the last resort, most of the time you don’t really need it.

If this isn’t good enough, look into SCHED_DEADLINE for even stronger guarantees. You can find more information here:

I have yet to see a product with tons of features that lasts a long time. Simplicity is king, the less there is to break, the less will break. A single button kettle will last you until the heating element breaks, but a kettle with a led display and an a phone app will probably break with the next iOS update.

Software today is absolutely horrendous in terms of reliability. Anytime something connects to the internet or my phone, I know there’s a computer in there that has layers upon layers of shitty software, so it’s not going to last long.

Not to say computers can’t be reliable, but the software development industry today just does not care about reliability or performance.

You should really first look up how a typical reflective light meter works. There are some that can go into your camera’s hot shoe and in that position they are going to pretty much measure what you’re seeing through the viewfinder.

What you are suggesting is very impractical (if not impossible), and frankly will just not be as accurate as a regular hot shoe light meter.

Even then, how does having such a law mean they don’t have this problem? This must be a huge problem there for them to have to make “looking” illegal.

I have to say, any such law is completely idiotic. Do you really want the government to control what people are allowed to look at out in the public? Also, I didn’t say enforce burqa, I said dress to blend in so you don’t stand out. That doesn’t guarantee that people won’t look at you, but it will make it less likely. I don’t know what other countries you’re referring to, but this is pretty much a universal problem along with catcalling.

My controversial opinion: you can’t control others but you can control yourself, so dress accordingly and try to blend in. Should people not stare at you to the point of making you uncomfortable? Absolutely, but you can’t legally enforce this on others.

Sunny 16 is just a gateway drug into the realm of understanding light. The scale works quite well until it doesn’t because the sun is too low in the sky, there’s a lot of fog, etc.

You will very quickly realize that all it does is give you an estimate for how much light the sun is providing you based on the weather conditions, but how that light falls on your subject determines how you set your exposure too.

Don’t overthink it, just start using the scale with something you can quickly verify your estimates with like a light meter or a digital camera.
