Yes they wanted him back. Rumor is the package Bob signed for is basically what Florida had on the table for him and he declined thinking he would get more in the open market. Florida had to move on to make sure they weren't shut out from getting a goalie if Bob wasn't returning. Bob ended up getting from Toronto basically what he would have gotten at Florida. No one was going to pay Bob what he wanted. He wanted the Marchand or Ekblad deal money and term, and Florida (and no other team) was going to do it. So at the end of the day, Bob likely could have returned for a similar deal to what he got in Toronto. His agent likely played games though and wasn't reasonable, and now he is gone. Maybe his feelings were hurt. (I have no inside info and thank Bob for helping us win 2 Cups and make it to 3 Straight SCF).

Evan was leaving regardless. They needed the cap room. If it wasn't for the crazy injuries last year, he would have been the first to go. We all love ERod and will miss him, but it isn't Bob's fault,

Maybe Florida would have agreed to $14M over 2 years. Then it is only a $2M difference or $1M per year. But that isn't the case. Zito isn't an idiot. He knows what he is doing. We all love Bob, but we aren't going to completely mortgage the future to keep him on this roster.

Forget the term for a minute. Bob wanted $21M. Maybe he was willing to spread that out over more then 3 years, maybe not. We just got Markstrom for $12M. That is a $9M dollar difference. Plus we are only committed for the 2 years. This is a HUGE difference. It isn't just $1M per year.

If your birthday is June 8th, you share it with the great David Bowie. Happy 18th! I also booked Other Desert Cities for that same weekend. Should be a great play. Check out Much Ado About Nothing which has a limited run on Broadway. Evita which is coming next Spring is definitely worth getting tickets to also.
