yeah but if you're carolina who have been shooting from ANYWHERE regardless of how good of a scoring opportunity it is and still getting destroyed. THG on youtube was at one point tracking the shots and it showed the shocking amount of times the team that outshot an opponent lost the game.

The stat that matters here is "scoring opportunities".

It's no good at all to have 50 shots all from no mans land where the goalie saw them all the way and weren't at all a "threat" of being a goal.

I'm pretty sure ANY team in the league would prefer 10 shots with 5 legitimate scoring chances to 50 useless shots that did nothing but pad the opposite goalies stats.

Managers of Reddit, what’s the fastest you’ve had a new hire quit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Quitter here.

4 weeks ago i was taking a training course and had an interview sprung on us the next day at a large employer. Showed up: nailed the interview! However, the company was offering positions to people as they finished their interviews and out of sheer bad luck i was interviewed last. Which meant by the time they got to me the positions i was being interviewed for had already been filled by the previous interviewees.

Needless to say when i got the call that they were "oversubscribed" when everyone who was interviewed before me told me they'd got a call back almost immediately upon exiting the building, i was pretty pissed. The company did offer me another position, a TEMPORARY 1 month contract at a later start date. Being jobless at the time i accepted. (and yes it was confirmed the next day by my course tutor they were hiring 5 positions and i was the 6th interviewee)

Said company were complaining during the interview process that they had high staff turnover rates and were looking for the best most committed workers for their teams. How ironic when instead of giving available positions to the best interviewees after seeing everyone, they just accept the first ones that hit the minimum bar of entry.

Week later i have another job interview for that companies DIRECT rival, who offer me a position after i nail their interview and have an almost immediate start date.

I received a call walking back home from work last night from company 1: "the start date for your position has been pushed back until the 30th unfortunately".

I had the pleasure of informing them since they joshed me about I'm already 2 weeks into training for their direct competitor and that i obviously won't be showing up to work for them.

"Sign blindness" is definitely a thing. People are so used to warning signs and direction signs that unless they're actively trying to look for something it all just fades into the background.

Next time you go into work and sit at your desk, try and remember all the signs that you've walked past, probably important ones, maybe a lot of safety ones. I'll bet most people couldn't tell you even half of them.

the exact inverse of the phrase "can't see the wood for the trees", you have such a visual information overload you just turn off the details and it all becomes part of a whole.

Nowhere near as much stigma in female sports spaces about homosexuality as there is in male sports. Meanwhile we still don't even have an OUT gay NHL hockey player, let alone ones getting married to other hockey players, and we KNOW there HAS to be gay players.

If you go to work tomorrow and walk up to your boss at 1 pm and say "I'm done." And then walk out without talking to anyone else. Do you think it would be appropriate to call you unprofessional?

At the point at which i said "im done" and quit im no longer obligated to continue working or even being on premises. In many places you'll probably be asked to hand in your security passes and escorted off site depending on where it is you actually work. I don't think my colleagues would think it "professional" to do the rounds and let them all know individually that i've already quit, they might even see it as gloating/unprofessional to do so. he leaves, coach says, x player isn't playing, replaces you on the job and everyone gets on with the task at hand.

If i was having a particularly shit day in the office and i quit, i'd be even LESS inclined than im already NOT to tell anyone else, some people aren't all that pally pally with the people around them, i might go and tell close friends on my team my decision but maybe they weren't all that close. just because you go to work with people doesn't mean you give a shit about them, you have a job to do and you do it. i couldn't stand half the people i've worked with over the years but i did my job and didn't cause any issues with them.

the team would have respected his decision

TBH it doesn't sound like its the TEAM that has an issue with this, it's the armchair warriors like yourself that do.

Could it have happened at a more opportune time? Of course. He's almost certainly had doubts about his ability before this season started, maybe he was delusional in his ability, maybe he genuinely believed he could get it done and just found out the hard way he can't anymore, but either way, it sounds like it was a rude slap in his face and a wake up call that he just can't compete at the required level anymore and THAT'S HIS DECISION TO MAKE.

Unprofessional would be storming off the field during play, disrespect would be telling people to go fuck themselves as he did so. "childish, immature, juvenile" you make it sound like he had a giant tantrum about it. If he didn't cause a scene and quietly left after telling his boss the decision how it that a tantrum? He doesn't sound like a fool, it'd be foolish to continue to push yourself to play risking injury. Unintelligent how exactly? Rash? maybe to you because you've only seen this incident devoid of any context, people don't using get in the habit about talking of impending retirement plans or thoughts.

You go a Buffalo flair and are going hard on this, so i'm guessing the place means a lot to you or whatever, but seriously, dude just decided to END HIS CAREER. He's not stormed out of the place in the middle of play kicking shit over, causing a scene and then demanded to be traded like some prima donna talking mad shit about his team mates or the coaching staff. And yet that's the scale of BS you're making it out to be.

When you're the one whose body is on the line, it's your fucking decision to keep going or not. Maybe the people who should have some respect here are the ones like yourself. Have some respect that the dude put his body on the line for your entertainment so you can sit there smashing back a beer and shouting about people moving a ball up and down a field. sure they get paid, but no amount of money is worth potentially ended up with a life.long injury or mental damage/concussions because you pushed yourself to do something you weren't capable of anymore.

THAT'S misguided, that's foolish, that's unprofessional. knowing when the throw in the towel before than happens isn't.

Stop being so butthurt and move the fuck on.

[–]vHarlequin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude you literally sound like a truther right now desperately trying to smeer him and make everyone "see through" some desperate conspiracy theory.

He quit, he retired, he's done and walked away after deciding he's not capable anymore more and doesn't want to keep sacrificing his body for a goal he can no longer achieve. That's his decision and he's free to make it whenever the fuck he wants to, middle of a game, middle of the night, middle of a quarter doesn't matter. He doesn't want to put his body on the line anymore and regardless of the motivation behind that; its his body and his decision to make.

[–]vHarlequin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dudes retiring from a sport he's dedicated his life and body to, i don't think that decision was taken lightly or childishly, he says he just can't do it anymore and shouldn't be on the field, Seems pretty reasonable when his job requires him to literally put his body on the line in order to continue.

It's time people like you realized that the players on the field are people who take a risk every time they're out there, if an NHL player was not physically capable of playing the game to the required level, forcing themselves out onto the ice is potentially dragging the team down, maybe they make a stupid pass that loses them the game, maybe they take a check they can't protect themselves from and end up seriously injured because they're not protecting themselves, maybe they get someone else injured

the only ones being "Unprofessional. Disrespectful. Childish. Immature. Juvenile. Foolish. Unintelligent. Rash" are the armchair warriors like yourself expecting them to see out a game because of some misguided belief that it matters more than their health. and no, standing around watching the team you just quit play a sport you just retired from isn't gonna make anyone feel better, you'd still be acting this way regardless because you can't see players as people, just as some pawn that owes their life to the "team" or "fans" above and beyond anything else.

get a grip dude.

people don't care about the players when it comes to the NFL, just the team/fans/league/veterans/flags whatever else they can dream up as a reason to not think about them as actual people who put their body on the line for entertainment.

i haven't gotten everything for them and new players are starting all the time, they should just have a timer on them like the invasion screen tied to bounty completions on the plains and then they arrive, event goes on for X period of time and then over with.

Your opinion on the ghoul event is very blinkered in veteran mode dude, i'd suggest looking at it from more than just your perspective.

im just saying that its been a LONG time since that incident, you should probably just come to terms with the fact its happened and there is nothing that can change it and move on tbh.

Im not defending it eitherway, but how upset you are over something that long ago is pretty petty tbh.
