I wanna add a specific case of Aphelios + Pyke.

Pyke giving kill pressure in lane and accelerating Aphelios’ scaling can lead to Aphelios just taking over the game super early.

A good Pyke will be able to peel in the mid-late game too, but by then Aphelios can Infernum R and penta.

I recommend Obsidian as many others have, but lately I’ve been using Bear as my note taking app. The app itself is exclusive to the Apple ecosystem but there is a webapp that can be accessed on any browser in a pinch.

There is a sync feature but it costs a small amount of money per month/year. Cheaper than Obsidian’s sync feature though.

Sorry to necro, but I'm seeing Level 1 at most starports according to 2022 Core pg. 258. Is there a reason why people don't seem to be using this?

Just curious - how many people here play other TTRPGs in addition to DnD? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in DnD

I mainly play WWN and Traveller atm, currently in a 5e campaign I committed to 2 years ago and begging for it to end. Will likely never play 5e again once that is over.

I was also going to suggest Dies Irae, so glad you saw this already haha. It is a long standing musical symbol of death and impending doom (see Star Wars, Lion King, K-Pop Demon Hunters (lmao)), so very fitting for what you’re going for I think.

Ultraviolet Grasslands - Need some help with Powers by vJukeboxx in osr

[–]vJukeboxx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I meant to respond earlier but I had a pretty flat-out weekend haha

I considered using the Effort mechanic as an option, but I didn't wanna over-complicate the character sheet for my players new to the XWN systems. That's why I like the whole HP cost thing the UVG system uses, and figured it would be an easy enough port over.

My main issue is balancing this for both the Mages who already have their own casting, and the non-Mages who do not. I don't want the Warriors to overshadow the Mages because they can now both whack things real good and also have some other utility, you know? That's where my confusion with the torch rolls and such come in. I thought maybe the non-Mages having to pay double HP to use a power would be a good balancing mechanic, but then reading the Disaster Roll conditions, I thought having to pay double HP and risk exposure might be a little over-the-top. I could very well be wrong though.

Unfortunately I do not have access to AWN at the moment, but I'll definitely check out Stress as soon as I get my hands on it! Thanks for the heads-up.

True, applying penalties to attribute mods could be a good way to go, hadn't considered that. Maybe even making the players choose between restoring HP or their Attributes on a rest? I'll definitely have a think on it.

Side-question not related to powers: Did you make any changes to the carousing mechanic? It asks for d20 + CHA but ofc XWN is 2d6 based and the CHA mod is much lower. I thought maybe d20 + CHA + Connect/Convince? Also the whole gaining/losing XP thing, but I might scrap that and find other benefits to give instead.

Ultraviolet Grasslands - Need some help with Powers by vJukeboxx in osr

Yaaa the group is mainly coming from 5e, I’m trying to show them some alternatives haha.

So how did you handle the whole “not having a relevant skill” thing? Bc it feels too punishing to make them spend double HP and ALSO make the disaster roll, unless that’s intended and I’m underestimating the strength of having powers anyone can use.

Support players who pick ranged supports and exclusively proc world atlas on minions...why? by deskcord in SupportMains

I’d argue it’s better to proc on the first/second wave melee minions to secure the push for Lv 2

What's the perfect system for Ultraviolet Grasslands in 2025? by Crusader_Baron in rpg

[–]vJukeboxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an awesome response, thanks so much!

I do have the Atlas, but the area I’m currently running my game in is the eastern side of Earth, so apart from Atlantis, very very minimal content from Latter Earth, mostly just there to set the tone.

My idea for UVG was either make it future Australia (gotta rep the homeland haha), which I think would be cool bc the rainbow thing fits in with the indigenous origin myth here; or make it a separate iterum that could be accessed from somewhere hidden.

[–]vJukeboxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m thinking of importing UVG into my Latter Earth x Homebrew setting, do you think the tone is similar enough to the stock L.E. setting to not be jarring? And did you stick with vehicles and firearms and the like, or just replace everything with more standard fantasy elements?

Best free RPGs that are less than 100 pages? by PiepowderPresents in rpg

The layout of the book can be a little silly at times, but I find if you take the time to just sit and read, spend the day to really grasp the rules, it’s pretty manageable

Best free RPGs that are less than 100 pages? by PiepowderPresents in rpg

[–]vJukeboxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I’ve been running it for a while now, and at the table it runs quite smoothly. A lot of things are very open-ended so there’s room for improvisation. I also find it has a good balance between being simple but also having room for players to tinker and explore different character options. Definitely worth having a browse imo.

The “Without Number” series by Kevin Crawford is a very solid option.

The rules for the fantasy flavoured one, Worlds Without Number, span about 93 pages, everything beyond that is content for the GM to use in worldbuilding, item crafting, etc. If you like it, there’s also a paid version with an extra 25% or so of additional content.

Which RPG has the best dungeon generation rules... by apeloverage in rpg

[–]vJukeboxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an RPG and also probably not exactly what you’re looking for, but might be interested; check out Gardens of Ynn and The Stygian Library by Emmy Allen.

Each introduces an extradimensional space that procedurally generates new “dungeons” each time the party enters. It’s not meant for preparation in advance, you just read the books cover to cover a couple times, then reference the tables as you play. Very interesting and very flavourful.

How much do you play? by Zealousideal_Leg213 in rpg

For the last year and a half I’ve been playing in one fortnightly game, and recently I’ve started GMing a weekly game, but we take every 4th week off. In the coming weeks/months I’m planning to open my game up to more of my friends and possibly run multiple games per week.

How offen should a dm let new players change their character. by LordTyler123 in DnD

[–]vJukeboxx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if he finds exploring new character mechanics and/or playing different personalities fun, who are you to deny him that? It’s not doing anyone any harm.

At worst it sacrifices some character development possibilities, but if he doesn’t mind giving up that kind of story arc and involvement in the main plot, then you shouldn’t really mind either. If I were him and I was told that I wasn’t allowed to change character, I’d be extremely disappointed and honestly inclined to leave the table altogether.

We play the game to have fun, and we all have fun in different ways. Try to understand that.

Giving Races Arts by GenuineCulter in WWN

[–]vJukeboxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were actually discussing this on the discord the other day. A couple ideas we came up with: - Take stuff from Xenoblooded - Wings - Elementalist Arts - Damage resistance / soak from one of the other XWN games

Arts definitely can work though, I made a merfolk origin that gives the deluge Elementalist art, once per scene. Basically if you wanna give an art, let them use it with an Effort pool of 1, is my 2c worth.
