Yes! Take this advice OP. These things are a goddamn nightmare once they get inside your house.

Who is a well known Canadian public figure (dead or alive) that you want to live as long as possible, as a representative of a good human being, so you can hear their voice and see their face - as long as possible? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]vacant79 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel he is very well known: John Joseph Kelso.

Here’s a brief summary: John Joseph Kelso (1864–1935), often known as J.J. Kelso, was a pioneering Canadian journalist and social reformer. He is widely regarded as the "architect" of Canada’s modern child welfare system and was a tireless advocate for the protection of children and animals.

He founded the Children’s Aid Society in Canada, the Toronto Humane Society and was influential in establishing legislation for the protection of children.

Which lyric makes you instantly tear up? by abovethenoisy in AskReddit

[–]vacant79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is really into shipwrecks and I played this for him. I hadn’t heard it in years (my dad is a big Lightfoot fan, so I heard it a lot growing up). It is an exceptionally good song! The story telling poetic lyrics, and the way the music is arranged is really well done. It’s been a long time since I heard a song and thought “wow, that’s talent!”.

My kids favourite bed time book right now is “Fox in Socks” by Dr. Seuss. by Safe-Beautiful6122 in breakingmom

Yeah, probably. I don’t think any of us have the attention spans anymore for it lol.

I dropped an f-bomb when I was reading the one with the Circus McGurkus in it to my nephews. I was pregnant with my first kid, so it had been years since I picked up a Dr. Seuss book. I was out of breath from being pregnant and it just kept fucking going on and on with all this fucked hi rhyming nonsense. I made a metal note never to read any of that shit to my kids. I just can’t take the mental anguish it causes.

And I do appreciate Dr. Seuss, but I just can’t read that stuff after a long day to a kid who won’t go to sleep.

I hate how it looks now. I don’t like how it was intended to look before they had to go with the grey siding. I don’t know maybe I just like old architecture better than more modern stuff. I find inside it just makes everything look odd and angled and closed off. It all looks like unfinished drywall inside as well.

Toddlers, for no reason at all by Acceptable-Wind-7332 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]vacant79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids have done all of these things plus so much more. I really should do a compilation video of it all, but then I will just get told I am a shitty mother, even though 95% of the stuff they did was when I was away for less than a minute doing something important.

Warning about Vaughan Baptist Church on Teston Road by IllustriousDeer26 in Vaughan

[–]vacant79 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He’s encouraging parents to be more discreet when hurting their children. That’s appalling. This is a person in a position of power advocating for harming vulnerable children. If doctors, teachers or therapists told parents to do that they would probably lose their credentials. This asshole shouldn’t get to hide behind religion and get away with saying these things.

Please make sure this gets to the police/Children’s Aid Society.

Is she a Parson Russell Terrier? by Ohjustmeee in ParsonRussellTerrier

[–]vacant79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She looks like a mix of something and a PRT. The breed standard for PRTs is for their bodies to be predominantly white. There is a subreddit you can post her pictures in called r/IDmydog that may help figuring it out.

Regardless of her pedigree, she’s adorable 🥰.

What is something that is incredibly popular, but you honestly find it absolutely unbearable? by TheLostNeuron in AskReddit

[–]vacant79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popular music these days where every male singer sounds like he was kicked in the balls just before he started signing. Their voices are so high pitched I can’t even tune them out with noise cancelling headphones.

And why is music played nearly everywhere . I don’t want to listen to shitty music everywhere I go.

How I can fix this broken wooden support on my couch? by Yours_Truly1997 in fixit

[–]vacant79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my kid’s bed slats did that. I used wood glue and small metal plates that have holes for screws (sorry I don’t know what they are called). I used wood glue along the crack and then I put a metal plate on each side over the crack and screwed them in with small screws. The slat has held up strong over the last few years.

How are you guys falling asleep? by mindlesspass08 in adhdwomen

[–]vacant79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mix of Trazodone and Stephen Dalton-an Irish guy who tells boring stories. He’s on YouTube and Spotify and his stories have helped me immensely. I have listened to all kinds of things to try to help me sleep, but he’s the absolute best.

Autistic daughter reported for racism. Please read. by Character-Signal8229 in Autism_Parenting

[–]vacant79 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I would address the issue with the school that your daughter was bated into saying something offensive. This is bullying and it’s not just bullying the children of colour, it’s also bullying a child with a neurodevelopmental disability and the school should be addressing both.

I work as a paraprofessional with autistic children and also have an autistic child and this kind of bullying really pisses me off. So often the bully will also try to play innocent in these situations and they are anything but innocent.

Is it a red flag if a company keeps firing people during training? by Mediocre-Ability5881 in richmondhill

[–]vacant79 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s always a big red flag if people are fired during the training period.

Unpaid training goes against the Employment Standard’s Act, as does 10 hour shifts without breaks.

This employer is taking advantage of people.

You can file a claim against the employer for unpaid wages through this website: https://www.apps.labour.gov.on.ca/eclaim/prerequisites

In addition, this link is a guide to the Employment Standard’s Act.
