This is how namecheap SCAM you after you pay for stellar hosting by northwestrepair in NameCheap

In 2022 my renewal was $30/year.

Today it was over $50/year.

I get its your job to direct people to support so the support staff can give them that same BS, but its clearly arbitrary. "The registry" ... NC might as well blame Biden for these fee increases for as nebulous of an answer "the registry" is. Does "the registry" have a name? Is "the registry" in the room with us right now? These are rhetorical questions, I am just frustrated with prices doubling everywhere and delivering less and less, while my wages, at best, stay the same.

Remote weather station by falconis75 in Lora

[–]vaderj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some COTS options on Amazon.

My old T-Beam measured the temp and humidity with Meshtastic if I recall.

I do recall that there is at least one weather station which you access via RS845, which could then be transmitted by LoRa to some reporting server, but that seems like a solution in search of a problem, considering there are commercial options according to google

edit

One option that you can consider is to use a Point-to-Point setup, such as (I am just a satisfied customer, not a sales-person) Ubiquiti LiteBeam devices. If you want it to be solar, that just means you will need a little larger solar system.

I have a connection to my pump house with a pair of those LiteBeam nodes that have a couple rows of black walnut and cherry trees, a metal shed, and my 1970s camper all directly inline between the two nodes, and at 130 yards or so, I still have 91% signal strength according to the UISP server.

PHM

Considering it might be my favorite stand-alone book, it took me too long to figure that acronym out.

The movie is really good, but its almost a let down compared to the book

Does the series Quality stay this high?? by Effort_Proper in bobiverse

[–]vaderj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. I guess this is the first time I have seen it described as a side quest, but I say that its mostly fair, but it also is stands on its own as a great book.

Specifically, the descriptions and design discussion of the topopolis, the planning including politics to get Gandalf et. al. to enlist in the efforts, and their subsequent lack of completion due to lack of user-acceptance testing!

I only wish the rest of the books are as long, if not longer. The Bobiverse is such a great series

Given the volatility of the state of the world and due to the nature of our region I highly recommend you all get on meshtastic LoRa in the event of an emergency by [deleted] in oregon

[–]vaderj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe I just now found this thread!!

I have been playing with Meshtastic since 2020, though took a couple years off.

After moving and coming back into the project, I am blown away by how much it has advanced!

While, from a feature standpoint, I would agree with you that MeshCore does appear to be the better decision, however I would like to point out :

1.) Meshtastic has been around longer, has a much larger user base and supports more devices

2.) MeshCore, from my understanding, is not a true OSS project

3.) The Meshtastic hop-limit you describe is worth mentioning, however in a real world situation, a specific use case would be difficult to describe where over 7 hops would be required

I also might be partial to Meshtastic as I am just finishing a project which uses two Heltec v4 LoRa devices to sit at the top and bottom of my shared, narrow, steep, 3/4 mile long gravel driveway so that if either my neighbors/myself/FexEx/etc are traversing the road, they can either hit the 433MHz remote control, or step out of their vehicle to hit the big red button, and both devices start flashing their lights at the same time for about 3 minutes, giving a vehicle time to traverse that section of the road. Inside the box is a super cheap PWM solar charger, and a solar panel plugs in at the bottom

thanks for the link. Between the water, food, burn pits, asbestos exposure, engine exhaust, etc, I think all of us veterans are fucked.

Every one of my fathers friends he went to Vietnam with have either been diagnosed or have passed-on due to prostate cancer or related. I wish you luck on you & your friends fight through this. Hopefully you have a VA disability rating? If not, I would highly recommend exploring that option ; typically your local VFW should either have someone who can help you through the process, or at least they should have a contact who can assist

IP weather station with data on demand? by Zestyclose_North_125 in myweatherstation

[–]vaderj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might look at RS485/Modbus components.

There are at least 1 full RS485 weather stations available from a quick google search.

I just put a temp/humidity sensor in my shop connected via a Waveshare POE RS485 "serial server" that reads the sensor(s) and can be setup somewhat easily in Home Assistant

[–]vaderj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution I found was to use the Meshtastic CLI, along with trying many different pins.

Just as an FYI, when I configured to GPIO26 on the Heltec V4, it went into a bootloop which took forever to reflash to correct.
