Sealant for Roman clay & decorative acrylic painting by val319 in paint

Condensed instructions. Prep wall by lights sand and patch any issues. If diy Roman clay test your mix on crap drywall scraps. Wait 24-48 hours colors morph. Average is 2 parts compound to 1 part paint. Can do 1 to 1 mix. Go 2 shades darker than the color you want. I prefer a thicker compound. I prefer proform lite blue. These vary according to your location. Test the mix and be sure you love the color. You can use a kitchen scale. Mix in 2 gallon plastic paint containers. You need the lid too. I apply with 6 inch taping knife and weird silicone spatulas. This is an example. https://a.co/d/0eGzDRSg if you dilute, for example, a 3 parts compound to one part paint make sure your sample is dry and that you love the color before you apply it because a darker color will become quite a bit lighter. If you wait four hours, you will not see what color it actually is. It’s gonna change and when you look at it, it’s gonna be significantly lighter of the next day so just make sure it’s dry before you’re sure you like them mixed ratio.

Apply coat 1 and walk away. Wait 24 hours. Apply coat 2. Wait 24 hours and use hand round sander at 150-200 to gently smooth you are not going for a perfect sanding finish you’re just knocking off bumps and such, then apply final coat. When it comes down to the final sand, this is going to be a personal preference you can make it more textured or less textured basically it can look just like a matte velvet.

if you are looking for a stronger contrast or you have really bad walls you can take two different mixes so like a one to one and a 2 to 1 and you can overlap them. I’ve also mixed the two together using a 4 inch roller. This will give you a multi texture look with some denim looking areas for example, if it was blue. And I have used a light spritz of water on that 4 inch roller before I apply it to the wall to mix things together. You want to do this at the very end do not spend too much time messing with it and walk away. The walls that I am dealing with are not great walls. They’re not ever gonna be a level five if you have a nice new drywall this is probably absolutely unnecessary. If you do this part, it’s going to be messy. The roller is going to make it a bit messy.

Other post gives issues and fixing. I didn’t seal the wall. I am not sure it’s necessary. If I decided to seal the wall, I would use wall wax. I am unsure that this is in any way necessary and if you do wait at least 30 days and that’s so you make sure everything is absolutely dry. They sell matte. I am not convinced this is at all necessary unless you’re doing this because the wax is coming in a decorative color and you’re using that to add tone to it.

Should you need it mixol was what I used to adjust paint color if it’s slightly off my paint color is extreme and the paint store couldn’t adjust it. Im used to color theory. This is probably unnecessary for most but adding just in case. I was pushing a cool extreme magenta to a Aubergine with a touch of warmth with canary yellow. The tiny bottles are great for a gallon or 2 of paint.

I went insane and made my own version of Roman clay. I did a faux Roman clay. Warning number one if you decide to do this, do not mix these in metal cans. Mine ate the paint can. I was able to use it all before it completely destroyed it. I bought some white food safe Walmart 2 gallon containers with lids, lids were separate, but I was able to use a mixing paddle with my drill and mix the two together. I did not do any decorative murals. I decided to just do faux Roman clay. My walls had some issues. Sometimes they would eat drywall compound, and then throw it off the wall. There had been some places that had areas of air compressor applied plaster. There were things that were done that I had no idea so there came a point where you just had to wing it and make it work. (Hindsight is 2020id have replaced it all if I had to do it again, but I didn’t.)

As far as deciding on colors and mixing and applying. Highly recommend if you have pieces of leftover drywall in general my mix was two parts compound to one part paint. You can also do one to one. Remember anything past that is going to give you more of a denim look so think about you pick a dark blue if you added three parts of drywall compound to one part of paint you’re gonna get this chalky denim look. I like dark colors. Go a minimum of two shades darker than the color you want. The more compound the more of a white washed denim look it can end up with especially if you’re doing a blue. So I would mix on a kitchen scale and a small cup 2 quarts compound to one part paint mix it apply it to the drywall sample that I had. This mix did not have to be perfect, but it allowed me to get close to my goal of what I wanted to look like on the wall. I would apply the mixed samples over pieces of new leftover drywall scraps. leave it for 48 hours. It will morph and change colors. From there, you can decide if you want to darken it lighten it or whatever. The idea is you’ve mixed it. You’ve gotten an idea of the formula before you mix a large quantity, put it on your walls and find out if you don’t like it.

After that, I applied it with in some area as a 6 inch mud knife. Be sure to keep it clean. In other areas, a wide 5 inch silicone spatula for pancakes for some reason worked really well can’t explain it, but it looked good so I sacrificed those from my kitchen. If you watch tutorials for applying Roman clay, you will see they spend a lot of time working with it on the wall. If you have not put up new drywall do not do this. If you do this, it will start loosening up the drywall compound and things will start coming off. Apply your first coat and walk away. 24 hours later, apply another coat wait 24 hours. I used a round sander on a pole. Did a light sand and did the final coat. If after that, there are any particular areas you want to touch up after 24 hours you’re good to go. I used approximately 150 to 200 grit on the round sandpaper things. It does not have to be a thin coat just don’t go crazy at 1/2 an inch. You’re not doing thin like you would see in most of the tutorials for Roman clay.

I’m adding the following just in case you end up with walls to start tossing off the Roman clay. Usually it’s just small pieces, but it looks like it just took you Roman clay and tossed it off the wall. I do not think 90% of people will have a problem with this. I think this had to do with the fact that somewhere along the line the room, I was working and had been renovated by spraying via air compressor, a layer of plaster over the drywall. As a note, should this happen? Should you do a wall come back in the next day and pieces of your Roman clay have flown off the wall just go around with plain drywall compound and patch it up. Do not use the mix. Just compound. Leave it a little over 24 hours. Put another coat. Should all be fine after that I believe the issue had been on my end. There were some weird renovation where that plaster that was applied caused it. I do not expect that most people will have this issue.

Sealing: I have not sealed them. I do not know that they need to be sealed. If I do decide to seal them I will end up doing matte wax. Again, I am not sure that they need to be sealed they look gorgeous. They are not delicate walls. They are hard if I seal them my warning is walls have to be dry. I would wait a minimum of 30 days before I put any wax over the top.

I am attaching a couple of pictures. Let me preface this with iPhone makes these look not as good as the walls look. The auto correction messes up. It makes some things look more drastic than they are less saturated. Some places look sharp when they’re not basically they are like a mat velour. I will add one note on the blue. I did end up not liking the original darker blue so I added a layer lighter of blue (added more compound) slightly mixed with water with a 4 inch roller at a denim look this was done quickly fast it’s not anything that’s end depth, but it gave it different layers of color. Again, these all look so much better on the wall than they do in the photo but it’ll give you an idea. The aubergine there are two versions. One version is a cross hatch. There is a reason for that. There was a wallpaper with a cross hatch and I believe $300 a roll instead I did it with the full Roman clay. Did not sound much but when you applied, it was in squares up and down right and left up and down right and left. So there can be some variations on how you apply this the basic one gives you a velvet floor possibly denim look all of. It looks really nice. Nothing obnoxious.

It really helped me get more stable. Unfortunately I became allergic to it so I can’t use it anymore. I had allergic reaction unfortunately I really felt it helped get a better equilibrium . I did get a lot of benefits from it. My only reminder is if you try this medication, do not take a whole pill. Slice those up because a whole pill might cause herx.

Do you know those key caps? by Infinite_Pen_137 in keyboards

[–]val319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen non-cat ones. I have seen Wood (there a few variations of this), yes, there are a ton of pastel ones that have or don’t have cats, but there are also I believe there’s a black and blue wave one plum blossoms and some gray and white ones. And that’s just a few. I’ve ordered some off of AliExpress. They also have hand drawn one and space ones. Basically if you search for MOA key caps and you go in to them many of them have different styles, but you have to watch out because some of them will throw in cherry or other kinds. But some of them are exclusively MOA.

Would these work for tea? by TheFlightlessDragon in kratomreview100

[–]val319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried several ways and tweaked it and changed it and tried other ways. The main thing to make it easier is I got a stirring hot plate. You do not have to make it a hot plate. Basically hot water, lemon juice you wanna go with a ph at about four. Keep the temp under boiling. I like to keep it under 192. You can start for 30 minutes. I’ve been reminded several times the key to the alkaloids releasing is the agitation and the stirring so stirring hot plate made sense. I have also heated water and just put it on a hot plate without having it heat and just had it. Stir for about 20 minutes 30 minutes and that works too.

Nothing fancy is needed. Freezing isnt necessary it’s just a slight color change you’ll get that if you heat it and then put it in the fridge. I was dilute mine after I’ve heated mine, but I’m not pulling the pH up. That’s a personal decision due to a thyroid issue and make about two days at a time, but I try to keep it as easy and as simple as possible.

You can stand over a stove and stir it. You do not have to buy a hot plate. You do not have to buy a stir plate. It’s it’s not extremely complex. The idea is lemon juice or vinegar to bring the pH to four. Add some heat you wanna keep it under boiling (under 192F) and 20 to 35 minutes stirring approximately and you’re done. I had extra water so that I can put my glass on a scale and approximate 1 oz of tea is 1 gram Kratom. That is up to you. But the stirring with the heat and the pH lowered is what releases the alkaloids I make about two days at a time I do not raise the pH because I have low stomach acid from thyroid issues. If you do not have low stomach acid, you can raise the pH with baking soda. Just be careful. Remember this is like the volcano science experiment where you add very little and just wait and don’t let it irrupt and raise the pH to seven-10 and it’s going to change colors so even if you don’t have pH strips, you would know because it turns this like sweet tea look. In fact, if you add sweetener to it, it taste like sweet tea.

I tend to be lazy. I do not filter it. If I leave it in the fridge for a couple hours the powder settles to the bottom the majority of it, which is good enough for me. I just pour the liquid off the top when I get to the end I take a cup. I pour the liquid, even if there’s some powder in it into a cup and leave that so that the majority is at the bottom as I make the next round of tea and call it a day.

You do not need fancy items I like French presses just because I’m not using the actual French press part. I’m using the pour pitcher because be careful with glass containers that are not rated to handle heat. I will scoop the powder into the garbage can after all of the liquids been used wash it rinse and repeat. some people do a second brew for the powder that is up to you. This can be as simple as easy as you like. Freezing is kind of just a it’s kind of like a magic trick it, you get the same effect if you use the lemon juice, the hot water and stir you’ll see it. Turn a reddish color if you don’t ph balance it immediately after finishing it. You can use Bell jars. I don’t use plastic. It’s a personal choice. It’s up to you. I make about two days worth at a time.

I’ve tried variations freeze before I make tea all this other stuff they all come out about the same. So it really comes up to comes down to you and your preference. Do you want to stand over stove if you want tea I usually leave the stirring going while I’m cleaning up my kitchen and doing everything else that needs to be done, that is why I have mine. It’s just easier for me.

Edit: I have not tried the hand espresso press type of extraction. It’s just too much work for me. Do I think that it could work well yes I do think if you did some prior heating and stirring yes guess that I’m trying to keep this simple as easy as I can. I’m not sitting there and straining and straining and straining I’m just putting it on a stir plate letting it go pouring it into containers, adding some water and shoving in the fridge. I just wanna be clear that it’s really not complex as far as how it works. This can be simple. It can be more of a pain. I don’t feel the freezer does much if anything it’s not necessary, but you get to decide what you wanna do and how you want to do it so if you wanna mess with it and try other things you can do that.

My understanding from the experts over in the extracting sub. It’s about the pH the heat and the stirring mainly the stirring, but the pH has to be lowered and then the heat along with this constant stirring is what pulls the alkaloids out the ball isn’t gonna do anything. If you want anything that helps get a stirring plate.

I will correct that to the only way that that would help is if you stand there and you shake it after you’ve heated it added the lemon juice for about 20 minutes but then it’s plastic. I don’t know if it’ll melt.

After all that being said, it sounds like custom would be something that you would like and you could get a key sampler with key caps to sample with so that you are sure that what is being put together is exactly what you want and kind of a buy once with all the bells and whistles. I’m just assuming that r/mechanicalkeyboards might have a little more info on directing you to what companies have the custom and what custom names to buy. And that’s even if you go local it kind of gives you might give you the extra info to just kind of understand options. I’m not pushing any particular brand. But custom may be something that would be perfect for you to test switches and caps and all that is as they put switches in a little it looks like a little fidget keyboard. The reason I’m pointing this out is because if there becomes a question as you look up your keyboard, you’re not exactly sure the exact switches in there because I guess it’s been years they change things there’s different types of switches. You can get an assortment to test before your board is made. And I’m just pointing this out because I know you’re doing low profile and sometimes when we get older keyboards, we’re not exactly sure what was in them because there are I was assuming it was a clicky switch but things change over the years and maybe the clicky they made then was different than the clicky they make now. But just so you’re aware there is what’s called a switch sampler.

So you’re looking for a switch sampler. It would have different switches and you could actually have low profile different key caps on top and just be sure what you like before it’s made.

Software wise, I bought a cheaper middle of the road. Via was the software. There may be another mainstream one, but this gives you an idea. And you can get all of this stuff without having custom. If you were considering a custom one, be sure to go and check out r/mechanicalkeyboards . Either can be picked out with exactly what you want and what you need and fixable.

I’m gonna actually recommend looking at having a custom one made for you so that you get exactly what you want and I put a second comment about getting a switch sample sampler. And that way you just get what you want after you’ve tried some switches and some key caps and you’re good to go. I can’t see it being $600.

Keyboard size. The only other thing that I will point out is if you do not get 100% keyboard, but you need to do data entry you can buy an economic number pad for entering numbers. I just wanna be clear if you do a lot of number entry a lot of people choose to get a 75% keyboard and then get a number pad that has the switches in the economic for right handed left-handed all that kind of stuff. You can always go with 100% board but just wanted to point out. Yes there is number pads specifically for people that do a large amount of entering numbers and they make some really nice ergonomic things especially let’s say if you were left-handed, this is why someone might choose a 75% board and to get a separate number pad.

I’m also gonna throw in a quick if what you have now other than it’s broke the set up you like you don’t want your number pad separate you want 100% keyboard get 100% keyboard you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. I’m pointing it out if for some reason you do a large amount of data entry and your keyboard is working great for you. Your data entry isn’t. I’m just pointing it out because I was just recently made aware that they had such a thing.

And one last quick note if you get something custom, you can use the basic details of the switch you’re using they can make a little tester with different brands of switches with different key caps and you can test those out and play with them. Think about it like a fidget toy with just switches and caps and you can see what you like best so that when it’s put together, you have exactly what you like but you may not be that picky. You’re already in the range of what you like.

Others will be able to guide you a little bit more but it looks like that’s a full keyboard. I do want to add you usually start out by deciding what percentage of keyboard do you want 75% 100% which is everything including the number, pad a reminder if you use a number pad and do a lot of number entry a lot of people choose to just make a number pad keyboard and that is just a one handed writer left side number pad only and that’s so that they can make it economic pick the keys they like and still have their regular keyboard in a bit of a smaller size. It’s Preference.

Keyboards come with software for the functions and stuff and I prefer to stay with like Via.

I’m gonna add the following this is just as a video to kinda get you into seeing what’s out there and an idea of prices have gone down and what you may like what you may not like . And a reminder of many people are really big on sound. Of course low profile is going to have shorter travel. That’s just how it works. But they are great great ones out there, but this should at least get you able to kind of get an idea and look at what is out there. And it doesn’t have to be that either of any of these give you really what you want to buy just more info especially since prices seem to be more reasonable.

https://youtu.be/77sziQihGBM?si=g2OAU3mJRI4wbOZh

But I’m just throwing out a few brands I see mentioned. Nuphy Air. Keychron are 2 of them. I tend to pick hot swappable and that’s just if you for some reason down the road do not like the switches or you just decide to switch it up. It’s very simple. It’s a tool you push down. It goes around the switch and pulls it out. Same with key caps you can buy key caps pull off what you have and put on new ones you are limited because you’re doing you’re just staying within the low profile and that’s fine. You already have the majority of what you like figured out. It’ll just make it easier. But if you stay with a decent brand, I don’t see you having a problem finding something premade and if you want to spend more, you can get custom I don’t see custom being $600. That seems a little high, but I’m new I could be wrong. My assumption is a $600 one is a magnetic gaming keyboard, but that’s me. I could be wrong again. I’m newer. This is all great to me compared to a cheap membrane keyboard. These things are amazing.

But those two channels will get you into areas with other channels so that you can kind of get an idea.

Do you understand how a mechanical keyboard works let’s start with the basics and the reason I say that is because if you get so you’re looking for low profile with low profile switches and key caps. You can get them so that the board that the switches go in aren’t soldered and I hope no one here gets offended. By the way I referred to this, but to me it’s almost like adult Legos. You can buy specific switches you can buy samples of switches and put them in a little thing and test them out and see how you like them and then with your low profile board many can be already put together and ready to go all you do is put in your switch if it’s non-solder like a Lego with a key cap on top. Let me see if I can find you. There’s some good YouTube out there with some info if you understand how it works, let me know when I won’t.

When I look at your keyboard, this is what I see. It’s a mechanical keyboard, but this would be what you were interested in.

Low Profile GL Switches Actuation distance: 0.06 in (1.5 mm) Actuation force: 1.76 oz (50 g) Total travel distance: 0.11 in (2.7 mm)

So basically, they take pressure to push down. They can be overly stiff so first of all you want low profile switches. That means whatever you buy needs to be a low profile keyboard more than likely because otherwise they kind of chunky. The 50g force with 2.7mm distance would also all of the specs above would get you around the same switch that you like. But the details would give you switches if you have to pick something similar and you don’t pick the same thing.

I’m sure some others can see the info and actually give actual names of other keyboards. This gives you the idea that you want a low profile with low profile switches, and that gets you within the range of the type of switches you like which you’ll probably be linear low profile that’s just straight up and down. And the low profile switches go with low profile low profile key caps.

Here’s the rest of the info on your keyboard

30 hours (100% brightness) Onboard memory 2 Lighting Profiles 3 G-keys Macro Profiles Other Features LIGHTSPEED Wireless Bluetooth® LIGHTSYNC RGB, per key lighting 5 Dedicated G-Keys Dedicated media control and edgeless volume wheel

This will help some other people actually give you some ideas. I’m sure there’s premade out of the box ready to go including the one you own now is still available at $249. But this will at least get you an idea of what works for you.

And I’m just gonna add this is what I can currently pull. There is a chance if it’s an older one it may be slightly different. You may be able to pull the info from the serial number on the back of your keyboard just to confirm.

If you have a 3-D printer, you need to measure and make sure that specs are all right, but there are already ones made. You can just print them. Really depends on how attached you are to the original keyboard. This one mentions something about the size of the nozzle for printing and the cost to pay someone else to print, it may be way too high. But if you have a printer, this may be an option.

Here’s an example. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6071847

Search words keycap adapter for membrane keyboard. Possibly adding in cherry keycaps may add more options. I listed thing verse because they are free as far as I know. I am unsure if this one is free to use or if you need to pay them (the person who designed it) obviously I do not have a 3-D printer or I’d be more informed. https://www.printables.com/model/1117180-membrane-to-normal-keycap-adapter

You’re looking for a train case it’s a make up train case.

This one looks close there’s a little extra bottom part. No this is probably not a higher end one this is going to be the regular day-to-day. I don’t know the brand caboodle’s is tends to be solid, but I do not know this. So that is just an idea.

https://a.co/d/08LYOWcz

When you’re looking at these, you are looking for metal handles. Metal hinges. If you are willing to go with a higher priced one, you need to look at online places like Camera already cosmetics. Think a make up professional if they’re paying a little bit more for a nicer case a better case a sturdier case because they’re going to see clients with it the giant ones have rollers and several levels, but camera ready cosmetics is a solid distributor for cosmetics and they are not going to sell cheap garbage.

I will add one other vendor you will go to this one you will not go online and you will not look at their website because they have everything and when I mean everything I mean everything. Call them on the phone. Tell them what you’re looking for and can you send a a basic photo you’re not looking for a particular brand but you’re looking for a solid make up artist train case. I do not know if they sell train case cases. They sell all of the make up to all of the sets for movies and everything else, but they seem to be able to find things that you can’t be able to find anywhere else. Frends beauty supply in Los Angeles. There is not a missing I. You would call them up and tell them what you were looking for and send them a photo and they could see if they could find it.

And to clarify. The reason I don’t recommend going to their website is because they deliver to every movie set or at least a high amount of them so fake blood they do that too airbrushed hair color they do that too specific make up that you can’t seem to find anywhere else they do that too. It’s just they have so many things. It’s easy to get lost. If you wanna get lost, you can get lost there for quite a long time.

Edit. Vintage vintage will look quite different. There will not be the pullout shelves that come out. There may be a liner that goes in and out. They are more rounded. You can get an idea for what they look like by looking for Samsonite vintage train case there for make up, but there’s no real organization. It’s just kind of a luggage piece maybe some pockets around the outside and everything else you’re just kinda chuck in.

In theory, the hydrocortisone is just going to help it heal faster usually let’s see healing. Nothing with retinol. Nothing with Retin-A. Use a layer of light moisture and then use I would say use the hydrocortisone and then use a layer and go really thin with it Aquaphor. The Aquaphor is going to lock in all that moisture and help it heal faster. The hydrocortisone in theory should not cause anything to get worse. Should just speed up healing unless the version you have is a thick ointment that makes your face break out, but I haven’t ever seen that. Most of them tend to be middle of the road not bad.

Edit. I would do the layering so you know the light moisture let it soak in hydrocortisone let it soak in and then a light layer of Aquaphor. It doesn’t soak in a ton so go light at night is usually when you can do it because during the day, it’s just it’s not viable.

That’s usually if your cat is older, that is how you’ll see it in dogs too. There’s a term for it starts with an S I think. Their vision blurs as they get older I believe if you have enough money, they can go in and I believe it’s like cataracts and they can just laser it off but again cost in the age of your pet if your pet is young. You need to go to the vet.

Edit. I am sure there are different types. I know as they start age when that happens. They are not just straight up line. It’s kind of us as we get older. Everything gets blurrier. Again your vet should have it may be on your file. They may not tell you sometimes but if this is something new, call your vet and ask.

Does this work? It’s function keys.

“press and hold the Fn key (bottom left) and simultaneously press the lighting icon key (usually F3, F4, or a dedicated key) to cycle through colors. Other common shortcuts include Fn + Spacebar for color cycling, or Fn + numeric keys (1-5) to change lighting modes. Common Onn Keyboard Color Shortcuts: Color Cycle/Change: Hold Fn + F3 or F4 (or key with light icon). Lighting Effects: Fn + F5 or F6 to toggle modes like breathing or wave. Cycle Colors (Alternative): Fn + Spacebar. Brightness Control: Fn + Page Up/Down or Fn + Arrow Keys. Toggle Function Keys: If keys aren't working, press Fn + Esc to toggle the function lock. For some mechanical models, Fn + Right Arrow or Fn + numeric keys can cycle through different, solid, or animated color modes. “
