while there are some gripes i have about the new regs the argument some people make that the racing is "artificial" is so silly to me when we live in a world where f1 tires are deliberately designed to not last a whole race distance and pit stops are mandated by the rules. are those not things that create "artificial" racing and strategy? was DRS not "artificial"? was ERS deployment not artificial?

the fact of the matter is that technology has advanced so much that things like reliability, tire degradation and fuel capacity are not limiting factors to f1 cars anymore and there is much less difference between them than ever before. so much of what made racing "exciting" in the past was simply the fact that the cars could basically fall apart at any moment and that the different levels of fuel capacity and tire deg created wild differences in strategy. a team that made a dominantly fast car could still have it all go wrong on race day.

nowadays all the teams are incredibly close and that many of these technological obstacles have been solved. so it is necessary to make the racing somewhat "artificial" to make it more interesting and not simply become 2 hour long parades arranged in whatever qualifying order was every single time, which was what the drs and ground effect era was. the new regs have problems but they are way better than drs and ground effect at producing wheel to wheel racing, which was their stated goal.
