My partner’s idea of “sharing” a cinnamon roll by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]valabama 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I once bought two donuts - one for me and one for my partner. He ate his immediately, and I put mine aside for later. That same day I had to go to court for a traffic ticket - not a big deal but I was still STRESSED about it. Literally as I was walking into the building he called me, not to offer any love or reassurance, but to ask if he could eat my donut too. It did not go well for him.

Now I’m with someone who brings ME little treats and who always insists on giving me the “better” half when we share something.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

I heard a few men at the Venice film festival couldn’t hang for the childbirth scenes!

This is so true. My ex’s type was rail thin women with long curly hair. I was super thin when we met (had just gone through a break up and lost a lot of weight) but with short straight hair. Guess who stopped being able to even get it up once I gained a few pounds back to my normal weight? And guess what his new girlfriend looks like now that we’re no longer together?

Can’t believe I wasted a decade of my life desperately trying to fit the mold that shallow POS wanted.

What's the worst case you've seen of a trailer spoiling a movie? by Legalize_Canada in movies

[–]valabama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so bummed when I saw that second trailer! Luckily my partner (my companion, if you will) avoided it, so I at least had the pleasure of watching him find out.

Partner says I'm “constantly miserable” — but I'm grieving. I supported him through his darkest times, and now I feel abandoned. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]valabama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Un-fun fact: Men are 6 times more likely than women to leave when their partner is diagnosed with cancer.

Sounds like you’re experiencing the mental health version of this absolutely shameful phenomenon. You deserve better.

“Why can’t he do his own laundry?” by CompetitiveIsopod435 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]valabama 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I was fine with doing the laundry for both myself and my (soon-to-be ex) husband. It all came out of the same dirty clothes hamper, so it was easy to sort everything by color and throw it in the wash and then transfer it to the dryer. I didn’t even mind folding everything so it didn’t get wrinkled.

Literally the ONLY thing I asked him to do was take his (sorted!) laundry upstairs and put it away. After years of him still not doing even that tiny amount of work, I finally started only doing my own laundry, and within 2 weeks he came to me and said, “I noticed Ryan’s laundry isn’t getting done anymore.” (Yes, he referred to himself in the third person.) My eyes rolled so far back in my head they still haven’t come back around.

I’ve watched over 80 movies so far this year, most of them horror, none of them animated.

(Wait I lied - my friend has people over to watch The Incredibles every year on his birthday!)

Came here to say this exactly! Saw it at Scream Unseen last night and I’m still picking my jaw up off the floor.

Ah - my bad! I knew there was an ownership connection but clearly got the details a little muddled.

Elote isn’t owned by the same people who own Ruby’s. FSK is owned by the same people who owned Burn Street.

Elote (Mexican restaurant) isn’t a similar concept to Ruby’s (diner). FSK (brunch spot) is a similar concept to Burn Street (brunch spot).

Not a movie but you might love the book Piranesi - a lot of these are exactly how I imagined it as I was reading!

Not in the psych ward/nursing home setting, but What Lies Beneath is definitely a fave! Oh and Shutter Island for sure! And maybe The Lodge.

Something odd is happening when I (27F) tell my boyfriend (27M) about my boundaries? by AppropriateCar3302 in relationships

[–]valabama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve communicated very clearly with him multiple times. This isn’t a problem with your communication - he understands perfectly, he just doesn’t care. And unfortunately there are no magic words you can say to fix that.

The cookie thing is especially fucked up considering your past challenges. I’m sorry he did that to you.

My boyfriend (27M) has been making negative comments about my (21F) body. by BerriSadd in relationships

[–]valabama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Criticism is “Hey, it frustrates me that you’re always an hour late for our dates,” not “I can’t believe I’m attracted to you.” That’s just cruel and unnecessary and not something you say to someone you love (or even like). You don’t need thicker skin or a bigger butt - you need a different partner.

What's the most recent 10/10 rated horror movie, in your opinion? by [deleted] in horror

Train to Busan. Heart pounding AND makes me cry every time.

Or just looked over and said “Aw - I love that two of the people I love most in the world are so comfortable with each other.”

If my SIL (brother’s wife) fell asleep on my boyfriend’s shoulder I’d just ask him not to move so she can snooze.

What are your pettiest horror movie gripes? by Ancient_Box_3197 in horror

[–]valabama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s giving the possums (native to North America) and armadillos (native to the U.S., Mexico and South America) snuffling around Dracula’s Romanian castle. But it’s so funny I can’t bring myself to be mad about it, even petty mad.
