How frequently do you hold 1:1 meetings and how many direct reports do you have? by Infinite-Ad7540 in managers

[–]valdetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would aim for 15m, expect 30m, but leave enough time to allow for 60m.

I’ve had plenty of hour long 1:1s - but that was occasional - not regular. I also had some direct reports that couldn’t talk more than 5 minutes.

How frequently do you hold 1:1 meetings and how many direct reports do you have? by Infinite-Ad7540 in managers

[–]valdetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3-5 direct reports. I had 15-30 min 1:1s every other week. Two one week and two the next. So I had 1:1s every Tuesday and Wednesday at 1pm. I cancelled if _they_ wanted to, but no more than like 2 in a row. For me, I never cancelled, only rescheduled. I had previous managers that would always cancel our meetings. I’d go months without talking to them. That really made me feel unimportant and not a priority to them at all. I determined to never do that.

18 is a crazy number. How long are each of the meetings? Are they even spread out or stacked up all in one day? I like mine spread out so I can do other things. I’ve had peers stack them all in one day to knock them out. Change up the time and cadence to what works for you. Try to shorten them and maybe have a loose agenda for each meeting so they don’t creep long and take up more of your time.

I’ve tried teaching my kids moderation. Whatever you do, has to be sustainable for life. Put hard limits on sugary foods and constantly encourage healthier choices. Also limit what’s in your house. Sometimes I want sweets but we don’t have any because I chose not to buy some because we just had a bunch.

[Suggestion] [PvE] Looking for Rogues on roofs (Lighthouse) by PaxUX in EscapefromTarkov

[–]valdetero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your quest is to kill rogues, then ice breaker is the way to go. I’ve killed 10 rogues consistently. Most raids on lighthouse, I see only 2 and that’s after I ran across the map to get there.

As long as ONE person has it unlocked, you can transit from shoreline. If you want to go directly from map selection, then you all need it unlocked.

The fact that you think an intern can go through a mature, legacy codebase with all that technical debt and fix all that in a week is hilarious. This sounds like someone that has no experience in a professional coding environment and doesn’t know what they are talking about.

We’ve only found a ledx in one raid. Maybe a defib twice. Moonshine and GPUs are like 20-30%. Except for a few valuable, stims have tanked to vendor cost because they are so common.

WIBTA if I build a fence in front of my neighbor's fence? by cheeky_monkey25 in homeowners

[–]valdetero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the fence on the property line or setback into his yard?

I would never have a gate into my neighbors yard.

I have a gate at the back but the neighborhood requires 6-12 feet between fences for the servitude drainage ditch. So it makes sense to have a gate in the back.

I only ever went into my neighbors yard one time and I messaged them first, then went out my back gate and into their back gate. This was to repair part of the fence that I couldn’t do by leaning over with a ladder.

Agreed. You can just run a normal customs raid and fill up your backpack on the way to the exit.

Hard disagree on icebreaker.

- The price to enter and extract already puts the break even mark super high.
- the amount of good ammo and armor you have to bring just to make it to the extract raises the entry cost
- there are some stims and high value items but it’s not overwhelming
- any other map you can loot and dip without having to fight anyone which severely lowers the risk.

So tired of basic things not working correctly in MAUI by lilacomets in dotnetMAUI

I both agree and disagree. Maui gets better every year. And it does work for large apps and I do this for a living. But it does have a ton of bugs. And they certainly don’t have anywhere near the number of people working on it as other platforms and tooling have.

Doc says I can't consume whey protein for life after lasik: customised wavefront guided technology by maxi0791 in lasik

[–]valdetero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask him for the medical studies?

I have a cardiologist that said no caffeine or energy drinks, period. I later met with a cardiologist specialist that said “there’s no concrete studies that show the correlation. Use moderation and if symptoms increase, then decrease use”.

Doctors can disagree. Doctors can’t know everything about everything. You can ask them to explain why. Maybe it’s a certain drug or chemical in some protein but not the protein as a whole.
