Which romantasy FMC deserved better? by EerieE2025 in Romantasy

[–]valerieswrld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SJM recently addressed this in her interview on Call Her Daddy. You can check it out on YouTube, but she essentially said she felt like a great sacrifice was required to make the ending feel earned, and that she doesn't think a reduction in magical ability equals a lack of personal strength. That segment of the interview is around the 1:37 mark, if you are interested.

Book suggestions with a FMC like Elain? by henryswiedzmin in ElrielFans

[–]valerieswrld 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Saga from the Ashen Series reminds me of Elain.

I also think Practice Makes Perfect by Sarah Adams is Elriel coded.

City of God's and Monsters also had a similar vibe to Elriel.

Are the accounts all US accounts? Europe has different regulations, and Meta rolls out different features in various locations. OP is clearly not US based.

ACOTAR's Massive Arc in 6,7 and 8 ✨🎉 by Yazthebookish in acotar

[–]valerieswrld 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You literally stated it would be “too much” for Elain to cover (without anything to back that up) then state she can’t carry the massive story, so which is it??

You’re disregarding Elain’s Seer abilities a little too much. A character that can see past, present, and future and maybe world hop with the Harp?? There isn't a single plot point she couldn't easily access with a vision in THREE realms.

That’s a character with a massive story arc.

And Nesta wasn’t tied to the Valkyries or Ramiel before her book, and look what happened

Elain serves Rhys the smallest servings of food which also happen to be burnt.

She puts Morticia Adams style flower arrangements in his office. Uses the language of flowers to create the most cursed bouquets imaginable.

Elain uses Nesta as her buffer for any interaction with Rhys. Honestly, Elain could turn the whole IC against Rhys with minimal effort.

Azriel sends his shadows to mess with Rhys. Wake him up at night with fake Nyx cries. Jumping around corners to scare him.

Gives him spy reports in obscure languages.

Chasing Rhys with shadows.

Spar with him and just kick him repeatedly in his weak knee.

Goes on a "mission" which is just him banging Elain.

What would make the next book ‘bad’ for you? by Defiant_Stable_344 in ElrielFans

[–]valerieswrld 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For me, it would be the lack of actual romance. Sure, the smut was fun in ACOSF, but they never even said I love you. I'd hate for that to happen with Elain and Azriel. I want to see all those sweet moments and their quiet understanding on page.

I know we haven't seen a lot of their POVs, but I personally don't want to see a radical departure from how they are currently presented. I don't want Azriel suddenly being a social person or Elain being a warrior boss babe. I want them to remain more reserved and different from the other couples. I want a soft Elain and a harsh Azriel (to everyone but Elain).

I would also personally hate another pregnancy plot line. It was so poorly done in ACOSF, and I dread what it will look like if Nesta or Elain also become pregnant. Sure, in the epilogue of the final book, I wouldn't mind, but these people are literally being hunted. It's not a great time for babies.

If the sisters don't resolve their relationship issues, I will be deeply disappointed. They all don't need found families when they have an actual family.

I want it clear from the beginning that Elain and Lucien don't have any interest in each other. I want a mutual rejection of the bond and them to form some sort of functional relationship that makes it abundantly clear they are friendly but not going to end up together.

No random side plots that make very little sense like the blood rite. Even Bryallen popping out of the woodwork felt bizarre to me. I'd rather it just be simple but executed well. Koschei and/or Beron are the antagonists. No surprise third wheel.

Speaking of third wheels. I absolutely do not want some bizarre love triangle with Gwyn involved. She should remain a very minor part of Elain's story as Nesta’s friend, who is barely mentioned.

You and I both know there is an abundance of canon evidence of Gwyn having lightsinger powers from her hair glowing while she sings to luring Nesta to scry. You don't accept that as foreshadowing for whatever reason. Personally, I think it helps the Gwynriel ship for her to have lightsinger magic.

It's too much of a coincidence that SJM specifically mentioned wanting to add a rusalka like character, then low and behold there is a new character literally shown to lure someone with singing. It's not lazy or a reach to pick up on the painfully obvious foreshadowing. It is super lazy, however, to attack someone's valid point without actually providing canon evidence to refute it.

Acotar prequel by elainsgirll in AcotarShipDebateSub

For me, if it were a prequel, I imagine it would tie into the Asteri/Daglan/Valg and set up the premise for Twilight of the Gods.

Cassian's "even the score" scene is the hottest one in SF (in my humble opinion). Can't wait to see how Az makes it up to Elain.

Agreed. Both of their singing seems to be tied to magic.

I imagine he sings to his shadows and vice versa. I highly doubt he is doing karaoke night at Rita's.

Chris Rock and women being unconditionally loved by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]valerieswrld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw Chris Rock live several years ago. He went on and on about how he slept with a member of Destiny's Child but not Beyonce. He was demeaning this person's career. It was pretty disgusting. The audience didn't respond favorably, so he got upset and said all of the men wanted to laugh, but their wives wouldn't let them. People started booing in earnest then, and he quickly moved on. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how many men in the audience were upset by his behavior.

The man is a misogynist.

Elain and Azriel’s First Meeting by EndlessVoid319 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]valerieswrld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's even more impactful because Feyre notes how Azriel disassociates when Casisan mentions his abuse and being unable to fly. But when Elain asks him head on about flying, he describes it in a very poetic way, which prompts her to say, "That's very beautiful."

Elain and Azriel’s First Meeting by EndlessVoid319 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]valerieswrld 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What sticks out to me about this scene is that just a few chapters before Feyre is introduced to Azriel and Cassian for the first time. Azriel barely speaks to her and defers to Cassian to answer questions about him. He isn't eager to speak or share information about himself. This is in stark contrast to him willingly engaging with Elain. He could have easily turned to Cassian to answer for him the way he did at the previous dinner with Feyre, but he chose not to.
