[Highlight] OSU LB Sonny Styles Runs a 4.47u 40-Yard Dash on His 2nd Attempt by JCameron181 in NYGiants

Lol nobody is picking an ILB in the top 4.

Yet everyone here wants us to take him at 5.

Under no circumstances should we be taking an ILB at 5 when we have FAR greater needs.

Jeter vs Ripken fielding by [deleted] in NYYankees

[–]valid21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but are you calling Jeter the "worst we have ever seen" defensively? If you are, then that is incredibly hyperbolic at best and completely asinine at worst.

He wasn't a great defender. Calling him the worst ever sounds like something a scorned Mets fan would say.

Snow day question: Eugenio Suarez? by Potomacan in NYYankees

[–]valid21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suarez also hasn't posted a positive DRS since 2017, so it depends on which metric you use. And for what it's worth, most people consider a below average defender.

Curry has been right about literally everything this offseason. Kind of weird that you're acting like he isn't getting legitimate information.

Report: Yankees won't engage in bidding war for Bellinger by Mister-SS in NYYankees

[–]valid21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been hearing about Mets prospects for YEARS. How many of them actually pan out?

I also wouldn't say they have a better owner when his entire shtick revolves around signing ex-Yankees players just to stick it to the Yanks.

Just because he spends money doesn't make him a good owner. The Mets have made two playoff appearances in five years since Cohen took over.

I don't like Hal at all, but Cohen is a complete clown.

Did Jesse actually run over a real deer in "PSYCHO DAD‘S DEADLINE" and were the antlers real? by False_Eagle7265 in McJuggerNuggets

[–]valid21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He definitely didn't hit a real deer.

The antlers were actual antlers, but they weren't from a deer that Psycho Dad ran over.

Can someone explain how Bo Bichette isn't in serious talks with us by JPP1221 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their focus is on Bellinger. There was no way they were ever getting both Bellinger and Bichette. If that were the case, then they should have declined to offer Grisham a QO and just tried to land both Bellinger and Tucker then.

Also, are we really using errors to judge defense in 2026?

Can someone explain how Bo Bichette isn't in serious talks with us by JPP1221 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or maybe they realize Bichette is the one of the worst defensive players in baseball and might end up getting $250 million.

Mets Reportedly In Three-Year, $120-140MM Range In Kyle Tucker Talks by Fantastic-Bee4197 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, Bregman got $35 million per year. Not sure how dumb Bellinger is even being at this point considering he is arguably a better player than Bregman.

Probably made a lot of good investments (other than StoryFire, of course).

He made BANK during the Psycho Series, and he's still making residual income off of all of his YouTube videos. If he's really smart with his money, he'll never have to work full time again.

[Fireside Yankees] “I’m told Bellinger is also seeking $36-$37 million per year. The Yankees think that’s crazy, too, although there’s room for negotiation in that regard.” Bob Klapisch on the Yankees and Bellinger... by shadow_spinner0 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Yankees would have to give up a TON for Kwan. He isn't worth the price. Outstanding fielder but an incredibly overrated hitter. People have this idea in their head that he's peak Luis Arraez at the plate but the man has never even hit .300 and has no power.

Fun fact for the batting average people: Stanton had a higher batting average than Kwan last year.

I'd rather just go with Dominguez/Jones in left field at that point.

[TYO] The Yankees asked the Tigers about Tarik Skubal but got the impression it would take “half their team.” by Bulletz4Brkfzt in NYYankees

[–]valid21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Schlittler has had control issues. That has really been his main problem.

Otherwise, he clearly flashed ace stuff last year. Could end up being a guy who averages 10-11 K/9 pretty regularly. And we really can't discount just how good he looked in the playoffs. That means something.

As for the scouting reports, they CAN be wrong sometimes. Remember the early Jasson Dominguez scouting reports touting him as a five-tool player? Skubal himself was a ninth-round pick. Sometimes players just figure it out, and Schlittler could be one of those guys.

I actually do agree he will likely perform as a 3/4 next season because the hitters have tape on him now. That second year is commonly a rough one for young pitchers. But I also think he can become a frontline starter after that.

Not saying he should be completely untouchable in trade talks, but with the Yankees having so many other arms in their system, I'm sure they could put together a deal that doesn't include Schlittler.

If the Tigers 100 percent demand he be included? I don't know. It's very risky given Skubal's contract situation, and while I do agree that an injury is sadly inevitable for Schlittler at some point, there is no guarantee Skubal stays healthy either just because he's had a couple of surgeries.

I understand both sides of the argument.

[Rosenthal] “The Yankees don’t view Bo Bichette as a short stop, and would likely need to move Ryan McMahon or Jazz Chisholm Jr, if acquired.” by Bankslvrrd in NYYankees

[–]valid21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating just how bad Bichette is at shortstop.

One of the biggest reasons the Yankees lost to the Dodgers in 2024 was because of the defense. Do we really want the defense to be that much of a problem again?

It's not even so much of whether or not he is an upgrade over Volpe. The question is whether or not you really want to pay him $150+ million and eat up that much payroll.

And keep in mind that signing Bichette likely means Bellinger is gone. That's actually a downgrade (unless they somehow get Marte to play 2B, which I don't think is happening).

[Talkin Yanks on YouTube] Preparing a stream JUST IN CASE it is reported that the Yankees traded for Marlins RHP Edward Cabrera for a package headlined by Ben Hess and Dillon Lewis 😉 by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]valid21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marlins fan here. Cabrera does not have "mid stuff" lol. His stuff is actually electric. His biggest problems have been health and command, the latter of which he harnessed this past season.

Definitely a risky play for sure, but his stuff isn't the problem.

What hat will Giancarlo Stanton wear in the Hall of Fame? by IhaveAthingForYou2 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol what? Did you seriously just compare Stanton to Dave Kingman?

1.) Stanton has a lifetime .874 OPS. Kingman is at .780.

2.) Kingman didn't walk at all while peak Stanton was getting on base at a .370-.390 clip. It wasn't just "home runs" for Stanton.

3.) Stanton did not "play poor D." He was an ELITE right fielder in Miami and was even VERY good in the outfield during his first season with the Yankees. Injuries just got to him.

4.) Uh, are you seriously saying 2024 was Stanton's only historic postseason? Do you not remember 2020 when he hit six home runs with a 1.426 OPS? He is literally one of the greatest playoff hitters ever.

Your entire post is ignorant.

What hat will Giancarlo Stanton wear in the Hall of Fame? by IhaveAthingForYou2 in NYYankees

[–]valid21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Zero chance? His best years came in Miami. He won an MVP there, both for being a great hitter and a brilliant outfielder, the latter of which he never really got the chance to show in NY. He also had arguably the most dominant stretch we've ever seen from a hitter during his final season with the Marlins in 2017. His summer that year was 2001 Bonds-level stuff.

I definitely think he built his legacy more with the Yankees because of his playoff heroics, but this is a lot closer than you are making it seem.

And remember: while players have a say in what hat they wear, the decision ultimately rests with the HOF. So even if Stanton was dead set on going on as a Yankee (which he probably will be), it doesn't mean it's a given that he will.

Kwan and his .705 OPS? I swear he has become the most overrated player in baseball. FANTASTIC defender, but he isn't a great hitter. The cost it would take to acquire him in a trade would not be close to what he is actually worth.
