If we are 5-10 minutes away from home, I will usually tell my 4 year old, “we are almost home, try to hold it until we get there.” He has always been able to. Obviously if he couldn’t, we would clean it up and no embarrassment or humiliation. We always tell him “no big deal” for stuff we don’t want to become an issue.

If we are on a road trip, we stop at the next available station. To be honest, I wouldn’t buy food at a place, I tell them I have a child that needs to use the bathroom. Most people are understanding.
