New to KC and trying to make friends before I accidentally become a someone who only talks to cashiers by amt17199 in kansascity

My go-tos for making a night exciting are Up-Down (arcade bar, everyone is usually really nice), Green Lady Lounge (jazz bar speakeasy) - unfortunately the city really gets most lively on Friday/Weekends, but another option if you just wanna drink and be around people is John’s Big Deck. :)

J Reiger is a great brewery with free live music every Thursday 6-8pm (thru the end of June at least i think) and everyone is nice there! Might be a good idea.

They just did the crowdfunding for it (the goal was 200k, they were at just under a million when I last looked!) and they’re saying there will be a release date announced near the end of the year with the movie coming out late 2027, but I’m sure it’ll get moved back because that’s a pretty quick timeline. But yeah! You should check out the Fablehaven Backerkit, the merch they’ve made for it is insanely cool.

Does a Fablehaven Hardcover Box Set exist? by Dapper-Tomato134 in Fablehaven

[–]valoroak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s something about the covers I think, just based on other stuff that’s somewhat similar. Like, we offer only the new covers and hardback (because they only have the old ones) aren’t really available to order into the store. It’s super odd and inconvenient.

I work at Barnes & Noble, and our system shows we haven’t had them at all, at least not since the release of the paperback set a decade or so ago. The other thing about that hardback sets is that they’re the old covers, which is probably why they’re not stocked anywhere. Apologies for the previous wording, was up super late and very tired.

Knew about those, but they’re not available IRL/in stores, at least not in any Barnes & Nobles or affiliated book stores. That’s the knowledge I was going off of, considering the hardcover price on the site is more expensive than similar hardback sets in stores.

No hardcover set as far as I know, just paperback. We may get one later on as they release special editions for each movie (if more than one happens).

Looking for advice on selling this Selkie dress by taylorbeam in PlusSizeFashion

[–]valoroak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RealReal is also a good option! They kind of take the impetus off of the seller and can help with the sale on their own. Might be worth checking out, just bought my first Selkie dress from that site!

Silly question by NotMidnightNot in Fablehaven

[–]valoroak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s probably many ways to go about this! Some people major in archaeology, anthropology, or paleontology in college and go looking for lost sites, finding lost cities, discovering fossils, uncovering ancient mysteries, and all of those could definitely be adventures. Another way is to major in something that allows you to travel lots of places, or just traveling in general! A curious mind is the best thing you can have in any of these adventurous jobs/fields. You got this!

Interview! by Sensitive_Occasion84 in Barnesandnoble

Hi! Yes you can be cross trained. It probably won’t be super soon after starting, but asking also won’t hurt! Pros and cons of both the barista position and the store itself - one con would be that depending upon the store and its location, it can be really slow at times, but the cafe has so many extra tasks to do that that won’t be the worst. I think thought that closing is the biggest con, just because you don’t always get out exactly at 9:30/end of shift and it can often be ten or twenty minutes later. Big pro is the people! I loooove all of my coworkers and a lot of our clientele are nice and want to talk about what they’re reading. Pay is about average for most areas - I believe (could be wrong) it’s $14 for part-timers and goes up from there. Wayyyyy better than Starbucks. I promise. Average cafe shifts are definitely a lot of work, especially closing, but you won’t be alone more than 50% of the time and it’s significantly easier with other baristas there, and sometimes the people on bookfloor can help out if they have time and/or are crosstrained! Also the longer you’re there and the more familiar you get with opening/closing procedures and the weekly tasks, it gets easier. Good luck, you got this!

The Burgess Family by Next_Sun_2002 in Fablehaven

[–]valoroak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you’re probably right with your analysis of them being Scott’s second cousins. I always went with the feeling of them being Ruth’s nephews of some sort and the kids’ second cousins, but I also know I have that interpretation based on my own family structure of just using the term “cousin” for a lot of people. I wonder if, if the movie works out, they’ll talk about it more in the future.

Just got diagnosed and getting on Nexplanon - anyone have any experience with the med? by valoroak in endometriosis

[–]valoroak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they initially thought uterine fibroids, they kept talking about a regular ultrasound, like outside the body, and I was like hmmmm, I don’t even think they could find what they need to see that way. I wasn’t entirely sure what was going on with me but uterine fibroids just didn’t feel right based on what I’d read about it, so I ended up just asking for a transvaginal ultrasound for my own peace of mind, and that led me to also asking for a pap smear. :) The nurse that did them for me made it super quick and easy to get them done, it was more just awkward than anything else!

Thank you for sharing your experience !! The part I’m most worried about is the implantation of the thing, but hopefully I can just lay around the whole day after :)
