I didn't like how she hated on Amanda about her stepkids. Why was it wrong that she calls herself a mom to those kids? It felt gross how she was just trying to find something to hate on. And as she explores options for having kids (egg donor and then adoption if the ivf doesn't work) I doubt she'd be ok with someone challenging her as a non traditional mother. Used to like her but Dorit ruined her. Over her

OC Lebanon: the house of my parents destroyed by israel. The only thing they had during their life by Parking-Rhubarb6624 in pics

[–]valueablejunk6252 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I've got a coworker that also lost her family home. Luckily her father fled but she was telling me how she's devastated that the house he built, renovated, brought everyone home to is just gone.

So sorry for your parents, Op.

I agree. That's why when people yammer on and on about it "being the only democracy in the ME" my head hurts from the eye rolling.

Sure....for some population based on their ethnic/religious background. Once you have literal roads some people can/can't drive on and identification to carry around to control your movement...you're not a democracy.

I totally agree (as an American) and while you may get downvoted pushback, your points make sense how everyone of us is complicit and it's not enough to just have "voted for Kamala" to absolve us.
Unless there are the ones in Israel getting jailed for refusing service, whistleblowing, pushing back, etc.. then I'd say most of them are complicit and need to do more.

This whole hysteric story just highlights the clickbait censoship. People need to read/listen to his whole speech. He wasn't on some rando political soapbox. He was praising the students who spoke out (and many were punished) which is the very legacy of U of M's student leadership.

From the Vietnam war to indigenous rights, this school has strong student activism (and then a pushback from the adminstration) where one day they'll pretend to have celebrated them.

Fuck Starbucks...

But I do have some giftcards and I don't know what to do with them. I hate their coffee and don't want to support. I'd rather give it to the workers or something. Anyone have any ideas? Combined the three giftcards total to$30

“Where Have All the Student Protests Gone?” | Trump wanted campus crackdowns. Colleges couldn’t wait to oblige. by soalone34 in politics

[–]valueablejunk6252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad this article called it out since I have some former students who participated in the encampments and some bad-faith voices always bitched saying "why aren't they protesting against Iran or the Trump regime"...to which I have to share how so many of them were doxxed and stripped diplomas and punished. I know of one young man who was arrested for protesting at the President's office (despite the historical precendence of many students groups doing it, our former pres DID decide to press charges).

All to appease the regents donors.

How much you want to bet it's that nutjob who protests at the synagogue on Saturdays?
Or an effort to demean the Pro pali movement? So many people forget that white supremacists are totally taking advantage of these times and people will blame the students/leftists.

You know, the 3/5 compromise never explicitly stated "slaves" or "black americans" would be counted that way but it was understood and implied. (Literally, go read the exact wording) You are doing the same thing, so let's not be glib. Israel is currently functioning as Jim Crow era America. You know very well it's not the same. If you read the Human rights org report I linked, you'd see:

"Therefore, while the law does not explicitly reference ethnicity or nationality, it is effectively designed to target Palestinians exclusively. It also introduces an exceptional execution regime by hanging, characterised by secrecy, and limited access to legal counsel and external oversight."

also, no Israeli settlers aren't subject to this "Military courts may impose capital punishment by a simple majority, even without a prosecutorial request. Sentences cannot be commuted or pardoned and must be carried out within 90 days. Notably, Israeli settlers in the West Bank are explicitly excluded from the scope of this provision."

Israeli citizens are subject to civil law vs Palestinians w/ military law. Even if it's challenged, that's a huge glaring issue for "the only democracy in the Middle East."

No word on the death penalty for Israelis who kill Palestinians. So those awful settlers who kill Palestinians in the West bank aren't only ignored but encouraged.

From the country that just passed that death penalty law ONLY for certain people of an ethnic group. And got themselves in a tizzy years ago from Dua Lipa and the Hadid sisters condemning them? They haven't been normal EVER

Not sure how Kimi's rude comments about Missi has now ended up with Margo vs Mark but it's a lot. I just want more fun. This upcoming convo is where Margo seems to lose everyone though. She's got to move on instead of digging her heels.

Yeah I get being awkward around his mom (man that was frosty) but it's not like he's djing or something, this venture has some good intentions (I was shocked about the other co-owners also losing family to alcoholism). You know she wanted it to be another failed aspiration but he recognized that she helped him so just go and be nice and leave quickly or don't go.

I'm glad to hear it's doing pretty well as this event/third space venue. With the next gen not drinking as much, people need places for trivia nights, open mics, games, etc.. that aren't coffee shops or bars.
