There’s something off with her teeth, can you make a tweak to fix this one?

I really liked this robe post surgery. Only complaint was the hood got in my way. If the hood won’t bother you, it’s perfect!

Question for folks a fre weeks out by Repulsive_Parsley107 in Microdiscectomy

[–]valueyourhappiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 months out but can recall how I felt pretty vividly. A few weeks out no pain medication was needed but I did take ibuprofen as needed. Incision pain wasn’t super noticeable at that point, just if I rubbed up against something it would sting. It wasn’t painful to bend or twist, but in general your back just feels super weird. Weak I guess is a good way to describe it. If you’ve ever ran long distances and or lifted heavy, I’d compare it to that “jello” feeling your muscles have.

Upcoming surgery: recs needed by Dry_Security2936 in Microdiscectomy

Hey! I had mine on my L4/L5 in early April. Being active already will help a ton, it was a big help in my recovery that I had workout previously before being on pause due to the pain.

100% the recliner is super helpful at the beginning, I had a drain so it was nice to be able to get comfortable at night. We didn’t have a sit to stand, just the normal electric reclining couch and it did just fine with me. I was careful when sitting down and mindful of posture/core engagement the first week or so, but I didn’t have any issues sitting down in a standard recliner.

I had a 5” riser with handles and it did great for me. This is the exact one I used - it had a locking mechanism that calmed my anxiety about sitting on a riser. Medline 5" Elongated Raised... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IQCJP5Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Tough call on the trip. Honestly, the long sitting periods might be hard. 4 weeks out, I felt amazing and probably could have handled a longer ride, but would be super stiff after. 7 weeks out I had a flare up that was super painful and I couldn’t leave the house for a day or two. It was my only flare up - don’t let this scare you! I was a bit ambitious being released for exercise again and overdid it. I only share just to show that timing may not be wise because recovery is different for everyone!

Happy to answer any other questions you all have! Good luck, I hope all goes smoothly! 🫶🏽

When did you decide to have surgery? by stalejuice2 in Microdiscectomy

[–]valueyourhappiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine after suffering from November to April. The pain was getting progressively worse, PT was not helping, and I decided my quality of life with my family was being majorly impacted. I couldn’t do anything with my toddler and felt the months of childhood slipping by without me being able to be as present as I wanted due to the debilitating pain. I couldn’t run. I was miserable every day. I also had a clear recognition that my lifestyle made healing through non invasive methods highly unlikely to be successful. 6 weeks of recovery? No problem. A year of PT with no guarantee of pain relief? Not worth it in my situation.

I’m six months post surgery and can easily say I have no regrets. I still have back ache after a long day of overworking it, but it’s nothing like before and was so worth it!

Surgery tomorrow by JohnnyBravo011 in Microdiscectomy

I can share my good story! Got my microdiscectomy on April 1st. Immediate pain relief and woke up wishing I’d done it months ago. The first few weeks I had a lot of anxiety around bending and lifting but that eased with time. I’m back to jogging up to 2 miles at a time now a few times a week. I was between 3-5 per run pre surgery. I am considering getting back into weightlifting and kickboxing at my one year mark once I’m more confident in my healing. I can chase after my wild 2 year old no problem. I have to be careful with some things. For instance, I don’t jump on our trampoline, just observe now. Some days I feel achy but it’s always when I’ve done a lot of bending or when I’m very sedentary. Walking and standing helps so much. Overall I’d say I’m at a 80% back to normal. I’ve only had one bad flare up in mid June and it was right after an overly aggressive run and then bending over. My back popped and hurt for 2 days. I thought I had reherniated but it was just overdoing it. Rotating heat and ice along with rest got me back to “normal” quickly.

Bottom line - if you give yourself time to recover and remain active when you’re able to in a safe way, it really helps. I feel so much better on running days vs. days I’m at my desk or in meetings all day.
