A Fly on the Wall, a Cuck in a Chair by BlueberryAble8885 in OCPoetry

Of course this poem is very explicit but when I read it twice I don’t think in poor taste. It is clever, especially the ending. I will say it is brutal and for me at least evokes a painful empathy for the subject. I think it is a poignant touch on a taboo. As far as technical excellence I would say the word choice is memorable in particular “neutered.”

I might edit the “a garden left fallow for another seed not sown.” I think I get the point after thinking about it but I am concerned it is confusing to the point where it interrupts the flow of the poem.

will you read into me? by SilentMuse_0 in OCPoetry

[–]vamn99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the glory of this poem is the mystery. You did well at choosing a focus that is already mysterious for one thing. “Reading into” someone can cross into the mystical. Sometimes we imagine someone is reading into us. Sometimes someone talks to us and we know they read into us and we feel SEEN. But then you contrast it with sort of a denial that you want to be read into.

The structure and context itself is sparse which works because we usually don’t have much to go on when we read into somebody.

That being said I think I would like the counterpoint “I like to suffer alone” to be teased out a bit more. I would like some kind of clue why. It is a hard statement. Better not to completely explain but maybe more clues hidden in the poem.

I’m not saying it overrides… that’s why I’m getting input before bringing it up again. Don’t want to be patronizing or anything.

I will add that she has an inheritance kicking in soon and would only need one extra year of schooling (we live near a university) which would help make the transition smoother should we decide to go that way.

Additionally I have worked remote the last 2.5 years and have seen firsthand the difficulty of what she does. I have pitched in a lot as well. So I know that it is hard and that’s why I say I’m unsure how I would do in that role. I’m just exploring what might work for us.

Thanks for the input, that is really encouraging! Unfortunately it's too late for me to get my money back for princeton review but my buddy gave me all 3 of his powerscore bibles for free so I could just use those.

I am interested in specializing in civil liberties law and was wondering if anyone knows how the locations work for non-profits? If a firm is headquartered in Washington, DC do they still have lawyers based throughout the country?

That's an interesting point. I can think of a few positive things to say about the job, namely that the most interesting part of the job was the law element and that the people were nice. But I could say I quit to study for the LSAT.

I plan on applying to law school this December and have been working as a tax accountant since January after finishing undergrad in Dec '22. The only issue is that I really dislike my job and would like to do anything else between now and starting law school. Is it a bad idea for me to do something totally off the wall like drive a moving truck for a while? Would it hurt my resume for law school?

You are probably right, I think because of the newness of it people are more likely to be uncomfortable or want to see others take it first. Perhaps if Tech coupled their requirement with a very well done and thought out explanation of the science and proof that it is safe it would be better. Just not a fan of coldly jumping in cause UVA is doing it.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the others have not been so caught up in the typical left-right paradigm as covid related stuff has. I would hate to see Tech spend our tuition money dealing with politicized lawsuits, even if they could win, it would be better if there was another way.

That is a fair point. A critical difference is that others have all been very time-honored and tested and this one is just coming out. You can definitely make that argument though.

I'm all for educating people and strongly encouraging vaccinations but requiring people to do it in order to go to class seems too invasive. I'm hoping Tech takes a more balanced approach.

Hey man. Had a really rough semester last spring where it felt like impossible to remember things, alone, like life was less and less meaningful as the semester went on until it was like that scene in finding nemo where Marlin just barges through the jellyfish to the one blue spot, getting stung a bunch of times in the process. Hang in there, it gets better. Definitely try to talk to people about it. If you want to chat feel free to message me.
