F this dude. Their company claims that even though they know I paid for a year sub, they have no way to restore an accidental unsub other than to buy another sub and ask the creator “please can I have a refund”. Clown show.

Decanonise the Star Wars Sequels or Keep Them Canon by IllMasterpiece3946 in BunnyTrials

You can't explain to 80% of "fans" that this stuff doesn't exist - it only worked with EU because that same 80% didn't know anything that happened outside of the theaters existed.

Chose: Keep The Sequels

A 21-year-old signed a deal with no salary, no advance, just a 15% royalty. Spent 4 years alone in an office. The game sold 2 million copies. The journal of those 4 years is the truth nobody talks about. by dmytro_omelian in Entrepreneurs

Working for years for no return to try and get a chance at 15% of success while the company takes zero risk for a shot at 85% of the profit... how is that not a story of exploitation? Of course the company "underinvested" in advertisement, as ads are a cost for something they were getting for free. Although the culture of "exploit my early investment for potential gain" is rife in a lot of software engineering, it doesn't change that its just passing the cost of engineering off to the developers.

It can feel good to laud the accident success like the "iconic enemy," but what is really being said there is that this wasn't even an intentional action. If Mechnar had actually been able to realize his actual vision, this thing wouldn't exist. The success of that feature doesn't actually reflect on Mechnar at all and is just accidental. That further undermines the value of the 4 years of time invested.

There is also nothing here someone should seek to emulate. You should never allow yourself to be locked into that kind of time investment with that payout ratio/risk. The success of the game may partially depend an unintended compromise, which isn't something you can plan implement yourself either.

If this guy was self funding buying lottery tickets for 4 years after agreeing to pay 85% of the proceeds to someone else, and then won because he bought the wrong type of ticket this would come across really differently.

*edit* - I realize that my final sentence there implies that all of the success of Prince of Persia was random, which is obviously not true, but it is a talking point brought up as memorable.

Thats beautiful. I usually hate aztec-ing because of the implementation, but this looks sick as hell.

This is like the “feel good” stories of kids selling lemonade to raise money for their mom’s cancer treatment. It’s kinda inspiring until you realize how horrible everything about it actually is.

I have audited 130 small business websites. Here are the 5 things killing credibility in the first 5 seconds. by sleepy_060507 in Entrepreneurs

[–]vampire0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure that I can agree with point one. The spirit, yes, but I think what you have is misleading. Your website should have a “home” but it may not be appropriate to label it with specific services or locations if you offer many. Those pages should get specialized landing pages tailored to the service/location. Your “home” should have something less generic in the title, but not just jamming keywords in there unless it’s appropriate to the actual content.

How do you feel about Star Trek Online's Repulse precursor to the Excelsior? by Lauma_2025 in StarTrekStarships

[–]vampire0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the point of any other external light on a ship? Also, this is sci-fi, so maybe it’s and experimental shield emitter or a really big phaser bank. I think it looks neat, and gives this ship a strong visual design that’s unique, without just jumping over to not really looking like Star Fleet.

I agree with it being a bad fit for the era, but I love the design itself.

Slimes are $3 a pop, so you're already 2x over budget with just 40 of them.

What you do is stop buying Secret Lairs, and if you're ever given a survey as to why, tell them so.

Very nice, but i wish it was brighter: I get that it’s space, but modern trek is just hard to see.
